Can Israel Survive?

Well, of course they can. And they will. We know that from the prophetic scriptures. But this intriguing title comes from an interesting commentary in the American Thinker and reveals an interesting read:

Can Israel Survive?

There's a great deal of speculation these days on Israel's dire situation, most notably from renowned author and scholar Victor Davis Hanson in the National Review, who prefaces it with a remark that the country has never been in more danger.

We see a listing of the usual threats to Israel:

The Islamist regimes in Egypt and elsewhere brought on by the Arab Spring and their growing hostility to Israel, the genocidal influence of Iran and its missile-armed proxies Hamas and Hezb'allah, Erdoğan's Islamist Turkey, the huge influence of Arab petro-dollars, and the indifference and growing anti-Semitism in much of Europe and the exhaustion and debt of the United States are frequently cited.

It's a gloomy picture, and none of it is to be trivialized. But I think dire predictions of Israel's demise are premature, to say the least.

Exactly.

After listing a variety of strategic and military advantages that Israel possesses, and after pointing out the weak spots in Israel's enemies, we get to the crux of the matter:

The real wild card remains Iran, rapidly approaching status as a nuclear power. Much of Iran's threat comes via its proxies in Gaza and Lebanon and its ability to launch missile attacks, since Iranian conventional forces are too far removed to make a ground war feasible...

Would the ayatollahs risk heavy retaliation by attempting to destroy Israel for Allah? Perhaps.

This is where I would disagree with the author. Replacing "perhaps" with "definitely" seems more appropriate, recognizing M. Ahmadinejad's obsession with the return of the Madhi and his role in this scenario - something the author neglects to recognize.

And he certainly gets this right:

It's certainly correct that Israel faces major challenges, and a combined assault by Iran, Hamas, and Hezb'allah would not be a negligible threat.

Indeed.

In some other news from the region today:

Israel's isolation rooted in US-imposed military inaction

Christian Pastor Faces Final Appeal of Iran Death Sentence

A Christian pastor who was sentenced to death by hanging for apostasy in 2009 faces his final appeal in Iran's Supreme Court next week.

At least one appeal against the "choose Islam or die" sentence has failed thus far.

Nadarkhani, a father of two and member of the Protestant evangelical Church of Iran, was given three opportunities to recant his faith by the appeals court.

But he refused to reconvert back to Islam.

...the death sentence was based on fatwas issued by a senior Islamic cleric who is now deceased. At least three other clerics had challenged the ruling.

Jill
Is he back on that again?
Do you have a link? (I'm very interested in this)
And yes, absolutely - I could see something like 10 regions ending up being the 10 Kings - most definitely)

Israel will survive. America has to decide if we on the winning side or losing side. The news is plain as day for those of us who understand. Churches preaching replacement theology will throw Israel under the bus in a heartbeat.

I agree Michael. We also know from prophecy that all nations will turn against Israel - and sadly, that has to include the US as well...Its just a matter of time - the process has already begun

The US is buildinga a Caliphate, one country at a time. Saddam, Khadafi, Murbarak, Assad would never voluntarily step aside for a Caliph.

My brother is a staunch Seventh Day Adventist and very definately can't stand Israel. As that church teaches replacement theology my brother has gotten it into his head and believes that Israel is now replaced by the church and therefore he looks down on that "non christian Zionst government" who is menacing the poor palistinian's. The annoying thing for me is when I confront him with chapters of the Bible like Rom 9-11 and other chapters he blatently denies what the bible is saying in those verses by saying "well I don't see it that way". His low level anti-semetism shines through when he talks about "these christian zionist pastors who teach that Israel has a place in end times prophecy" and so forth. Christian Zionist's according to him have it wrong and should go back and read their Bible's IAW Ellen White and the Church as it is the one true body of Christ.
I love my brother but boy o boy he annoyes the hell out of me with his closed-off anti semetic mind set. If only he knew that Palistinianism is based on Nazi'ism and also shares the Nazi eagle on their flag. I'll keep praying for him and most of all will keep on arguing with him, as well. Just sharing my frustrations.

Hi Brother Dave :)
God Bless you with the situation with your brother :( I would begin with asking your brother if he knows that Jesus is Jewish. That never changed when he ascended to Heaven. So he is essentially against Jesus and Gods Chosen People. :(
You are correct, but there is wayyyy more of a connection between the Nazi's and the palestinians! It is far more expansive than that! Hezbollah for example, uses the Nazi salute (and I believe Hamas does too).
Nazism saturates Islam, which is the common connection between these different terrorits.
It is the same recycled evil as was in the days of German Nazism! In fact, Nazism began to infiltrate Islam during the 2nd WW. Briefly, the grand Mufti of Jerusalem, Haj Amin al-Husseini was close with Hitler,(there are photos-its a fact) and rallied the muslims in Bosnia, for example to fight along side the Nazis! An Arabic translation of Adolf Hitler's Mein Kampf is very popular in so called fake "palestine".
It is all a well known fact, the history and practices of Nazism and these terrorists groups.
Further more, no offence to your brother, but many are deceived with the whole "palesitine" people even being who they claim to be! Its all made up! and thats a whole other historically factual statement. There NEVER has been a "palestine"!
Guess who the Grand Muftis nephew was? ARAFT!
Here is a link I just quickly found on the history of this Grand Mufti. Note, the British referred to Israel as “palestine” incorrectly.

In addition, here is a link I just quickly came across, (haven’t the time to fully examine yet), but appears to have a huge amount on information regarding the Nazi connection to “palestine” etc.

(Continued)
Also: “ the Romans used the terms Judea and Galilee to refer to the Land of Israel. When Titus destroyed Jerusalem in 70 A.D., the Roman government struck a coin with the phrase “Judea Capta,” meaning Judea has been captured. The term Palestine was never used in the early Roman designations.
It was not until the Romans crushed the second Jewish revolt against Rome in 135 A.D. under Bar Kochba that Emperor Hadrian applied the term Palestine to the Land of Israel. Hadrian, like many dictators since his time realized the propaganda power of terms and symbols. He replaced the shrines of the Jewish Temple and the Sepulchre of Christ in Jerusalem with temples to pagan deities. He changed the name of Jerusalem to Aelia Capitalina, and changed the name of Israel and Judea to Palestine. Hadrian’s selection of Palestine was purposeful, not accidental. He took the name of the ancient enemies of Israel, the Philistines, Latinized it to Palestine, and applied it to the Land of Israel. He hoped to erase the name Israel from all memory. Thus, the term Palestine as applied to the Land of Israel was invented by the inveterate enemy of the Bible and the Jewish people, Emperor Hadrian.”

Hope a little of this information, perhaps will help your brother see the Truth!
God Bless You Dave! :)

Dave, a couple of angles you might want to consider...

Yrs ago as a newbie Christian, and even tho I believed in the Biblical restoration of Israel, whenever I had work in the diamond district of NYC there was always something that would well up and irk me about "those Jews".

Now, I coulda done the Flip Wilson thing and say "The Devil made me do it!", but in searching myself I came to realize that our very own fleshly nature is opposed to God, His Plan, and His people. It's just something you hafta learn to crucify.

In going thru the Gospels you'll see numerous places where Jesus struck 1st at the heart and asked very pointed questions designed to cause one to search their own soul.

Ask him some questions about where his anti-semetic feelings are really coming from and whether there is anything "Christian" or Biblical about those feelings...

A 2nd powerful approach is prophecy, past, present, and future - always literally fulfilled!

Consider the points I make here and ask him to consider this; - There has never been a time in all of history until this past century when all the nations of the world even knew of Israel's existance, let alone hate them and "come against them" in becoming members of the UN, voting resolution after resolution against Israel.

Why does Russia maintain their foot in the Georgia Corridor if not for moving their Ezek.38 hordes into Israel, all according to the prophecies!!

And yet - "...Who else would be foolish enough to stubbornly claim to be Jews?"

Hope this helps
;)

I completely agree about the "Georgia corridor" - and thought so from the beginning. They are only a tiny piece of land away from having this corridor complete.

Putin/Gog knows exactly what he is doing there...
