Updates from the UN and the Epicenter

I'm going to keep this post open and add to it as today's events progress. Thus far we've had Abbas speak and the presentation of the official UNSC request - at the same time more violence is breaking out in the epicenter:

Abbas urges Israel to 'come to peace' during UN speech

PA president blames Israel for failed peace talks during UNGA speech; UN spokesman says Abbas handed UN chief a letter requesting full UN membership for a Palestinian state, which the Security Council must consider.

Abbas said the Palestinians would continue peaceful, popular resistance to Israeli occupation and warned that Jewish settlement construction threatens both to destroy the two-state solution and the survival of his fledgling government, the Palestinian Authority.

Just prior to his speech, Abbas asked the United Nations to recognize a state for his people, even though the United States has vowed to veto the move.

UN spokesman Farhan Haq said Abbas handed Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon a letter requesting full UN membership, which the Security Council must consider -- although this may take some time.

Israeli diplomatic officials said Thursday that Ban, however, will not immediately pass the request on, giving the Quartet – the US, EU, Russia and UN – time to come up with a statement agreed upon by both sides that would form the parameters for relaunching negotiations.

"It is not a secret that the US administration has done everything it could to prevent us from going (to the United Nations)," Abbas, 76, told reporters late on Thursday.

"But we're going without any hesitation and we will continue whatever the pressure ... because we are asking for our right, because we want our independent state," he added.

'Palestinian killed in W. Bank clashes with the IDF

A Palestinian was reportedly killed on Friday during clashes with the IDF outside the village of Qusra in the West Bank, marking the first casualty since riots began earlier this week in conjunction with the Palestinian Authority’s bid for statehood at the United Nations.

The IDF said that it was looking into the reports and had launched a joint investigation with PA security forces. The Ma’an News Agency identified the dead man as Issam Kamal Odeh, 33, and said he was shot by two bullets in the neck and shoulder during clashes with the IDF troops near Qusra and not far from the city of Nablus.

Earlier in the day, violence broke out in East Jerusalem and at the Kalandiya Crossing north of Jerusalem. A number of East Jerusalem Arabs and Palestinians were arrested by police. Other protests were held at the villages of Bilin and Nilin near the West Bank security barrier

Police Insp.-Gen. Yochanan Danino said security forces were deployed across the country with a special emphasis on Jerusalem and the border around Jerusalem. Danino and Ahronovitch planned to tour the Jerusalem-West Bank border and the Kalandia checkpoint later this afternoon.

Hundreds of east Jerusalem residents are expected to gather at Damascus Gate this evening for a showing of Abbas' speech on a giant screen.

Arabs Riot in Judea and Samaria

About 110 Palestinian Authority Arabs and leftist activists threw stones at security forces on Friday afternoon near the Arab villages of Bilin and Na’alin. In a separate protest, about 120 PA Arabs were throwing stones at security forces near the community of Neve Tzuf. Another 100 Arabs were rioting near the Qalandiya checkpoint.

In all incidents, security forces responded by using riot dispersal means.

Palestinian Authority Apocalypse

More updates to come. PM Netanyahu's speech is pending, as are further developments in Israel.

Netanyahu: Peace Can't be forged through UN resolutions

Prime minister addresses UN General Assembly after Palestinians submit statehood request to Ban Ki-moon; "Palestinians want a state without peace. You should not let that happen," he tells plenum.

Netanyahu's speech came less than an hour after Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas addressed the assembly, confirming that he had officially submitted a request for full recognition of a Palestinian state at the UN.

The prime minister said that despite popular perception, Israel and he himself want peace, but that peace "must be anchored in security" and can not be forged by UN resolutions.

Netanyahu criticized the hypocrisy of the United Nations, noting that the UN Security Council is now headed by Lebanon, who is controlled by Hezbollah - a group considered a terrorist organization by the United States, Israel, and the European Union.

The UN, Netanyahu said, denounces Israel more than any other nation.

The prime minister referenced Thursday's speech to the UN General Assembly by Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, in which he attack Israel and the US. Netanyahu stated that while some diplomats had walked out on the speech, everyone should have left during the hateful speech.

Watched both speeches.
Wow. Netanyahu was great in his defense of Israel and so honest about the failure of land for peace. Also that the PLO lasted 1 DAY after receiving the key to Gaza. . Abbas was winsome and admittedly much easier to listen to than arafat EVER was.But what can come of all this???And will he resolve to negotiate.
We need to continue in prayer.
Such a pressure cooker............

Palestinians ready to flee new Palestinian state

Monday, September 19, 2011 | Ryan Jones

It is no secret that most Israelis oppose the Palestinians' unilateral statehood bid scheduled to take place (cont'd)

Thanks to WEDG for the link.

Waterer, just returned to work. I went home and watched both speeches on CNN. Bibi was great! But then the spin came from the post speech guests and boy did they spin. This world is so upside down. The spin which was rubbish was blinded hate. It is going to be very difficult on Israel when we depart. Keeping them in prayer while I still can!

I was working out at my gym when I noticed Bibi speaking. I stopped dead in my tracks, bowed my head, and prayed for him and for Israel, on the spot.

I guess we all know how this is going to end up but I will always stand in the gap for Bibi and Israel. :)

Waterer said it best
"What can come from all of this?"

THAT is the big question.....The story is JUST now beginning to unfold.....I believe this to be the beginning of the last push towards the Tribulation.

We shall see

Tas - thats awesome. I did the same exact thing

Scott said...

WV - what was the spin? I had to leave immediately afterwards

WVBORN56 said...

Scott some of the spin that I can recall...

1. Bibi's speech was average...
2. Bibi's offer to meet Abbas in the building was strictly PR stunt...
3. Kept refering to Israel as occupiers...
4. They said if Israel was serious about peace they would stop building in the settlements

At that point I had enough and headed back to work

My husband and I had lunch in a restaurant that had the speech being aired via CNN, so we had the misfortune of having to sit through CNN spin and it was VERY biased.

Basically, they had a man with a Jewish name and a man with a Muslim name giving their take on Bibi's speech. Both basically said his speech fell short.

I thought Netanyahu was outstanding . . .several Biblical references, including a verse from Isaiah. I was moved to tears when he talked about the origins of his name . . .and about the story in Genesis about Jacob who God renamed Israel.

Scott said...

Thanks for that info --- business as usual I can see. Same rhetoric we usually see huh?. Typical.

WVBORN56 said...

Robin, your right about the man with the Jewish name. I don't get these self hating Jews or why any Jew would be a liberal? Talk about sleeping with the enemy! They are blinded about a lot of things apparently. Their wake up call is coming soon...when their ownly true friends and allies depart this fallen world.

I thought it was really interesting that Abbas would say they were the state of People that no one wanted.Very sad and true. Also even politically when someone blesses Jesus Christ as he did, ( even as the after phrase concerning Mohammad) it reminded me again of the patience of the Lord. For some Palestinians Jesus is Lord as He is for some Jews.
Hopefully we will all be with the Lord soon.
As full of lies as Ahchmadinijad(sp?) was I felt the sorrows again for the famines and poverty for so many.I totally disagree with his conclusions and accusations but
it struck my heart with sorrows.
How I love Jesus.
Come unto me all you who are heavy laden and i will give you rest.

The Lord, the Messiah our King.

Amen Waterer
Come quickly Lord - I'm sure ready

Honestly, I doubt those bleeding heart Jews are as common as CNN would have us believe. CNN has been pro-Palestinian at LEAST as far back as the first Gulf War. To further their agenda, they chose a sell out Jew to make it appear his view was mainstream. I mean . . .who could say he's biased? He's Jewish, for Pete's Sake . . .therefore, that lends weight to his position. Sadly, there just aren't that many people who've been paying close enough attention to know the difference. How many Jews who heard that pundit today think to themselves "hmm, maybe my impression was wrong. That guy's Jewish and he basically said BiBi was a bafoon". He then changes his position so he'll be part of the "mainstream". Ugghhh . . .

We all have our opinions, including
says, NOT what other people THINK it says.....OK ????

HERE IT IS >>>>>>>> from NIV.COM

The Man of Lawlessness
1 Concerning the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and our being gathered to him, we ask you, brothers and sisters, 2 not to become easily unsettled or alarmed by the teaching allegedly from us—whether by a prophecy or by word of mouth or by letter—asserting that the day of the Lord has already come. 3 Don’t let anyone deceive you in any way, for that day will not come until the rebellion occurs AND the man of lawlessness is revealed, the man doomed to destruction.

Do NOT let anyone deceive you in
ANY WAY !!!!

I rest my case.

Did you watch Hal on that segment that EI sent? I thought it was very clear. I think the group is not deceived .
But Believe that the Day of the Lord Used by the prophets as Judgemnt/Jacobs trouble, trib time won't come until these things happen.
I suppose where you differ is that you believe that phrase day of the Lord means the rapture. We believe it meand Tribulation.

If you did not see Hals small discussion /teaching on that passage it is really excellent and very clear.
But let us not argue over this. If you are wrong you will still be raptured.

If we are wrong we will still be raptured too.

We come to Jesus always and only through His substitutionary death for us. The only begotten, spotless and validated by the Spirit in His resurrection.
We agree on these things right??

You should read Renald Showers "Maranatha, Our Lord Comes"....He does a great job explaining the "Day of the Lord"

Stephen, as one intent on going by what scripture says, then you need to know, Revelation is in chronological order. The Church is gone by the 5th Chapter and the AC doesn't appear until around the time of the Gog/Magog War.

Watch for him if you feel you must . . .but I have every intention of attending the mega marriage feast so will be missing out on the shenanigans of the AC. Maranatha my friend :)

Waterer, of course, JESUS is the
WAY I have always believed that...
If I did not believe that, i would
NOT bother even reading this blog.
or this website.

I have NO argument there...!!!!

on 2 THESS 2.....Paul's words are

PAUL knew in the last days that
people would ARGUE over this...
and I think JESUS knew as well.

That is why it says LET NO ONE DECEIVE YOU !!!!

You wanted it "straight from the horse's mouth", so here goes:

"Thus you will know that I am in the midst of Israel,
And that I am the LORD your God,
And there is no other;
And My people will never be put to shame.

It will come about after this
That I will pour out My Spirit on all mankind;
And your sons and daughters will prophesy,
Your old men will dream dreams,
Your young men will see visions.

Even on the male and female servants I will pour out My Spirit in those days.

And I will display wonders in the sky and on the earth,
Blood, fire and columns of smoke.

The sun will be turned into darkness And the moon into blood
Before the great and awesome day of the LORD comes.

And it will come about that whoever calls on the name of the LORD
Will be delivered;
For on Mount Zion and in Jerusalem There will be those who escape,
As the LORD has said,
Even among the survivors whom the LORD calls."
Joel 2:27-32

I really don't think the day of the Lord is the rapture. There are many scriptures that point to the day of the Lord being the time of great tribulation. If you Google "the day of the Lord", you will find lots of stuff about it, including scripture. :)

Stephen - we get your point brother - you have made your view abundantly clear. There is no reason to keep repeating the same mantra over and over.

Stephen what is holding the Antichrist back? You use the NIV and it says 2 Thessalonians 2:7 For the secret power of lawlessness is already at work, but the one who now holds it back will continue to do so till he is taken out of the way. And then the lawless one will be revealed....Many of us think that the one holding him back is the church and the church must be removed first.
