Evening Update: - Netanyahu: "In My Tenure, Iran Won't Develop Nuclear Bomb"

Netanyahu: 'Not In My Tenure'

Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu has pledged that Iran will not develop nuclear weapons if he is reelected on January 22.

“As long as I am prime minister Iran will not have nuclear weapons,” he said.Netanyahu said international leaders including US President Barack Obama and French President François Hollande have agreed that Israel has a right to defend itself.

The program flipped to a clip of former prime minister Ehud Olmert speaking, in which he noted that Israel was obviously not acting alone against Iran, given that the Jewish state would use weapons purchased from other countries.Netanyahu said that at the end of the day, it was his responsibility as prime minister to stop Tehran’s nuclear threat.

“Iran is serious,” he said. He would be happy if other nations would prevent a nuclear Iran either through sanctions or other means. But if there is no other choice and our back is to the wall, we will do what we need to do to defend ourselves.”“There is doubt about Iran’s intention’s to destroy Israel,” he said. “It’s not a bluff. If there is no other way to stop Iran, Israel is prepared to act.”

He rejected claims that he was not capable of acting against Iran.“Of course I am capable,” he said.Netanyahu ducked the question as to whether he would reappoint Ehud Barak to the post of defense minister in the next government. But he said, “I and the defense minister see eye to eye on the Iranian threat.”

Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu promised on Monday that by the time his term as Prime Minister is over, Iran will not have a nuclear weapons program.
Speaking to Channel 2, Netanyahu said that if it is necessary, he will lead an independent Israeli attack against Iran, even without the support of the United States.
“When former Prime Minister David Ben-Gurion declared the establishment of the State of Israel, was it with the consent of the Americans? When former Prime Minister Menachem Begin bombed the Iraqi nuclear reactor, was that with the consent of the Americans?” asked Netanyahu.

“If there someone here who, as Prime Minister of Israel, cannot act on things that are fundamental to the State, to its future and to its security and depends only on approval of others, he does not deserve to lead,” said Netanyahu.“When we didn’t have a state, when we didn’t have an army, and when someone threatened to destroy us and then actually annihilated us, we went and pleaded with others,” he said. “Today we don’t plead, we prepare.”

Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu vowed on Monday night to put a stop to Iran’s nuclear program by whatever means necessary — even in outright defiance of American objections — if neither sanctions, nor other international action, achieves that goal.“There is no doubt about Iran’s intention — to destroy us,” Netanyahu said. “I won’t be reconciled to that.”

Asked in an interview whether, if reelected in January, he would “pledge that Iran won’t have a nuclear program by the end of your next term,” Netanyahu said simply, “Yes.”When it was put to him that the US has opposed a unilateral Israeli resort to force, Netanyahu said President Barack Obama had stated that Israel has the right to defend itself as it sees fit, and that Israel dare not entrust its future to others, even to the United States. Israel’s prime ministers had ignored US disapproval in establishing the country in 1948 and preempting the Arab attack in the 1967 war, he noted.

Netanyahu was interviewed as part of an investigative TV report that traced Israel’s efforts over the past decade to thwart Iran’s march toward the bomb. The documentary, which included interviews with several serving and former top politicians and security chiefs, detailed sabotage, assassinations of scientists and other measures used by Israel — as reported in foreign publications — to slow the Iranian program. It described the 2007 air strike that destroyed Syria’s nuclear reactor as “a general rehearsal for an attack” on Iran.Asked whether he believed Netanyahu had the guts to order a strike on Iran, the prime minister’s former national security adviser, Uzi Arad, said he had “no doubt.”
Vowing that Israel “is ready to act” against Iran, Netanyahu said he was watching the Islamist regime “advancing step by step… toward producing nuclear bombs.” When the Jews were being murdered by the Nazis, they were unable to save themselves, he said. But he, as Israel’s prime minister, did have the capacity to protect the Jewish nation. “When we didn’t have a state, we begged others” to defend the Jews, he said. “Today, we’re not begging, we are preparing.”

Scott, I had a comment for this ready but I'm more interested in what you think. What do you think Netanyahu is waiting for? Why hasn't he attacked them yet?

I really don't have that answer. There is plenty to speculate about however:

- Was he trying to maximize getting bunker busters from the US and by promising not to attack (before US elections) was he able to secure some of these?

- Was ISrael able to divert Ieran's progress enough through assassinations, sanctions, etc - to delay the red-line? (IOW to delay Iran's progress)

- Is he waiting till after the elections when it became apparent that Romney should win (of course,, I expect this election to be stolen, but thats another story).

- Was he waiting to obtain a certain mount of world-wide publicity on the issue, so Israel would not be painted as the villain and rather, be seen as doing this as an act of self-protection? (the polls have changed over the last 1-2 years more and more in Israel's favor as this issue has become publicized.

I personally think its some combination of the above, but there is just so much that we don't know and information that we don't have access to.

I agree, I don't think that Americans are the deciding factor in this election. There is a lot that I don't understand and a lot of people also don't get. Time will tell.

Did either of you see the movie argo yet? The views of the mountains in Iran give some REAL perspective to this problem. Seriously,if they are bunkered under a mountain this is nigh to impossible!

I think they are waiting on the outcome of the election. They have some extra time from the bombing and assassinations as brother Scott said. I wouldn't expect they have much hope of an administration change, but none the less, there is a chance. I still think they would rather have the U.S. onboard. If the presidency remains status quo then I feel like they will go it alone. They have to, they have no other choice. My feeling is that the decision to attack has already been made. Its just wait and see who if anyone will be with them.

Haven't seen argo - but heard it was good/interesting. And Iran is rapidly moving all nuclear development underground - and the point of no return may have been reached - if thats the case, then Israel (IMO) would probably need US bunker busters.

That's true Scott. The names Gog and Magog are in my mind and they're not coming out.

Not a coincidence that Bibi chose the day after the U.S. Presidential inauguration for the Israeli elections...

Remember nothing is impossible for God. The faith of one person the size of a mustard seed can do great things through God. His will not ours.

Scott I concur with your assessment on Israel. However I would add that Israel already has in place a backup to the stutnex virus launched previously. They also have all their supply lines established through Mossad to launch a three pronged attack. The first prong will be to take out all radar functions in and around the country. Secondly they will attack the infrastructure through strategic targets already set up by the Mossad supply lines. Thirdly you wil see an unprecedented display of firepower on all the suspected sites. Remember they only get one shot at this and there can be no doubt left in determing the success of this mission. While we know through God's prophetic word Israel is will be preserved until the end we also know the reality of how the Jewish nation has not yet accepted Christ as the Messiah tells us how they think. That means they believe their hope of survival is dependent on their belief in themselves. It's not until God turns back to Israel and intervenes when all hope is lost does the nation turn back to Him.

As I sit here this morning I am watching a documentary on Ronald Reagan. I miss dearly the hope he inspired in our great nation. Like or hate him he represented all that was good for our country and he inspired the American Dream far more than any other modern president. His keep perception of the American predicament during the Carter administration is something that transcends to the current Obama administration. We all feel the same uncertainty. We all long to feel good about the American Idea. We watch an anti colonial president try to dismantle America's importance in the world and transfer its wealth back to third world countries who he feels we're taken advantage of by the Brits and Americans. As the sun rises this morning here in Tennessee, my hope is in The Lord. If we get to the end of this day please remember it is God who is in control. Nothing prophetically has to happen for us to be taken home. May it be today but if not until then I will wait patiently on Him.

God bless all of you!

Fantastic point Mrs C . I never put the inauguration day and Bibis choice of dates together .

And nice paragraph James in Nashville .

So on a side note : A couple of days ago i was feeling really burned out from Prophecy watching . Just about ready to "take a break" for a while . It can be very depressing . Long story short, I turn on Hal Lindsay today and its all about the troubles and triumphs of being a watchman . It rejuvinated me . I look forward to that extra crown in heaven :)

Peace ya'll

You are ,of course, right James when you remind mne that nothing is impossible for God. I was thinking more of why Bibi would hesitate.ANd I don't know of any praomise of God to aid them in destroying these nukes. I do see the promise of His intervention in Gog Magog but terrible days are coming for Israel in the trib.
I do think if they attempt this destruction of Nukes that they must know it would trigger great hatred from the world on their heads. Praying for our safety in elections all across this land today and for the Lord's will to be done. I am hoping for mercy...++
