Putin decides to retake presidency
RUSSIAN Prime Minister Vladimir Putin has decided to run for the presidency next year, raising the possibility of a power struggle with his protege Dmitry Medvedev, the incumbent Kremlin leader, say highly placed sources.
Insiders familiar with both leaders said Mr Putin, who served eight years as president before becoming Prime Minister three years ago, had begun to lose confidence in Mr Medvedev's loyalty.
If you aren't familiar with this story, here is how we arrived at this point in history:
The Russian constitution allows the president to serve no more than two consecutive terms. Mr Putin stepped down in 2008 and handed the reins to Medvedev on the tacit understanding that he could come back next year if he wished.
At the end of Putin's term, he basically renamed himself as the Prime Minister and also transferred most of the power to the PM position. It was clear that the new President, Medvedev, would serve as a puppet to Putin until Putin could run again. The "rule" was that a president couldn't serve two consecutive terms, Now he will run again, as many of us predicted.
Under the constitution, Mr Putin's move to reclaim the presidency could see him rule for two consecutive six-year terms until 2024, when he will be 72. If so, he would have served as prime minister or president for 24 years in all.
The Russian constitution allows the president to serve no more than two consecutive terms. Mr Putin stepped down in 2008 and handed the reins to Medvedev on the tacit understanding that he could come back next year if he wished.
At first Mr Medvedev was regarded as a puppet. He even took to imitating Mr Putin's distinctive macho stride and speaking style. But three years later, Mr Medvedev, who at 45 is still Russia's youngest leader in more than seven decades, is understood to be reluctant to step aside for Mr Putin.
The President is said to be frustrated at the perception, both at home and abroad, that he is a lame duck. A second term would give him the power to pursue a more liberal agenda of greater political freedom and sweeping judicial reforms, in contrast to that of Mr Putin, who is viewed as authoritarian.
This power struggle will be interesting to watch. Given that we are approaching the epic battle of Gog-MaGog, this political situation in Russia has added significance. It is hard to envision Mr. Putin not gaining the presidency in one way or another; after all, he found a way to maintain power through a loophole in the two term limit by simply changing his title. Now it looks like he may have found a way to remain in power for 24 years.
Could one of these two leaders end up being the "Gog" of Ezekiel 38-39?

Kinda off the Russia topic here, but we are getting hammered by storms here in the mid-section of the country tonight.
Also, although we're about 4 hours from Joplin, MO, we have friends there who lost their home late this afternoon to what appears to be a very bad tornado. Joplin looks like a war zone... Praying for all who have lost their loved ones and/or their homes.
It's getting ugly...
Alice - I had no idea about this.
I'll check the news - and please keep us updated!
Alice I just tuned into the weather channel and it indeed looks like a war zone...total devastation in Joplin...Praying for them.
Scott I can't see Medvedev as Gog but can easily see Putin with his tough guy former KGB agent background. Time will tell.
Good video on "radar rings" that appear one or two days before severe weather:

Also, I heard there was a tornado in Minneapolis today too.
Tough call on who specifically is Gog, but I'm not sure it matters. Meanwhile, there is fighting in Pakistan at an AF base and a naval base, and China is threatening the US if we do anything stupid. Our Teleprompter-in-chief is blatantly violating Constitutional laws so much that even some in the lapdog media are surprised I think.
In spite of all the hoopla about Camping this weekend (which may have been another instance of "crying wolf" to get people to mock any warnings anymore), I still feel we're in for something major very soon. October is looking significant, and I hope my "still, small voice" saying the Rapture will be before then is accurate.
What will it take before America drops to her knees, repents and seeks the face of God? He wants us to come back to him. Our souls are more important than our houses or cities or anything else. It is awful people have to suffer like this and lose so much. It breaks my heart. Satan has very little time and he is trying to take out as many non believers as possible.I have come to the realization that we better be prepared to meet our maker at any moment. Wether by rapture or tornado. But dont be afraid of ANYTHING, as Jesus is always with us and he won't leave us or forsake us! Paula-no date setting here but I'm feeling likeminded with you.

Obama: man of mystery. Seems he is using the Social Security Number of a man who died in Hawaii, where Obama's grandma worked in the records dept. The plot thickens! - 18/05/2011
ALAN FRANKLIN writes: This well researched series of articles just came my way, casting yet more doubt on the odd origins of the usurper in The White House, whose records don't have the ring of truth. An investigation has revealed the identity of the man whose Social Security number (SSN) has been illegally used by Obama: Jean Paul Ludwig, who was born in France in 1890, emigrated to the United States in 1924, and was assigned SSN 042-68-4425 in or about March, 1977.

Thats fascinating - Thanks for that link!
WV - I agree with that assessment
Hello Sharon
Thank you so much for your concern.
I admit to an ongoing family heartache which I have to repeatedly give to Jesus to deal with; sometimes it gets the better of me. This is true of most, if not all of us here at times.
As long as we keep looking to Jesus, we keep walking; at othertimes He has to grab at our flailing arms and cause us to sit or stand for a while before He encourages us to walk on again. :)
For several weeks I was having trouble with Blogger; as a result I am not up to speed on the news. I have posted, but at the end of a thread, so it has probably sunk below the horizon and been missed.
God bless you Sharon and keep you in His constant care. (((Big Hug)))

Alice~I am so sorry for your friends destruction in Joplin. I saw that on the news this morning and my heart is just aching. I am praying that many of these scoffers this weekend will even for a moment start re-thinking their fate in a moment of crisis. Who will they turn to then? Please keep us posted. Give them our prayers from Illinois.

Sue-missed you so much! Praying for you and your situation daily! To all in the midwest-My prayers are with you also, for the peace that passes all understanding and the presence of Jesus. Also for any physical needs and healings! To all of us-including me-no more playing around! The storms are going to get worse and worse, The person you are too shy to witness too today might not be here tomorrow! All this disaster makes people think, softens their hearts in preperation for the gospel. When everything has been taken from you, and you only have Jesus left, and you see how big he really is! Remember, he told us what was coming, so we would be prepared! So we would know and understand! He even told us to not be frightened!See, we have him. Imagine what its like out there, if you don't know him. And soon, preaching the gospel won't be allowed. The signs are all around us! -ally
Ally, your words ring with so much truth. : ) Thank you for reminding us of what our mission is here on earth.
Alice, I'm very sorry to hear the news of the devastation in Joplin. : ( There was a terrible thunderstorm with a tornado watch that stalled over my county last night and at one point I heard what sounded like sheet metal being ripped off something. My heart goes out to those affected by the tornado. When our town was devastated by the flood there was such an outpouring of support by the community that many victims and volunteers were forever changed. I pray that the Joplin storm victims will find that their faith in Christ will become strengthened through the ministry of disaster relief.
Sue, it's nice to hear from you again. : )
Scott, thank you for being faithful servant to His kingdom and know that many prayers are spoken for your ministry as well.
Just had a tornado near us but we're ok. Thanks be to God!
Gearedup - I hope you have a safe place to go, in the event of a tornado!
