U.S. Backs Down From Iran...Then Warns Israel

In a stunning display, the U.S. blinked first in this current brinkmanship game with Iran - all while the entire world has been watching - a move guaranteed to boost Iran's confidence. To make matters worse, the U.S. then turned their attention to Israel and threatened Israel not to take action, effectively allowing Iran's nuclear ambitions to continue unabated.

Israel and the United States have postponed a massive joint defense exercise, which was expected to be carried out in the coming weeks, in order to avoid an escalation with Iran, Channel 2 reported on Sunday.

According to an Israeli defense official, Washington wants to avoid causing further tensions in the region, especially in light of the sensitive situation that has been generated after various reports in the international media that the U.S. and Israel are preparing to strike Iran's nuclear facilities

News of it came amid heightened tensions between U.S. allies and Iran, after Tehran threatened it could close the Strait of Hormuz, a crucial oil supply route.

Gen. Martin Dempsey, chairman of the U.S. Joint Chiefs of Staff, is scheduled to arrive in Israel on Thursday for talks with Defense Minister Ehud Barak, Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Benny Gantz, and other senior defense and intelligence officials.

One senior officer told the Wall Street Journal that the United States' concerns regarding a possible Israeli attack on Iran were increasing.

According to the Wall Street Journal, both U.S. President Barack Obama and Panetta have conveyed messages through quiet channels to senior Israeli officials regarding the serious implications of an Israeli attack on Iran. They also reportedly told Israel it should allow more time for sanctions on Iran to take effect.

Dempsey's visit to Israel also comes against the backdrop of increased tension between Iran and the West over Tehran's threats to close the Straits of Hormuz, which would compromise oil shipments to the West, and threats to avenge the recent assassination of an Iraqi nuclear scientist on Wednesday. The regime is accusing Israel, the United States and Britain of the assassination.

Netanyahu's remarks notwithstanding, a senior Israeli official told Haaretz yesterday that there was disappointment in Jerusalem over the fact that harsher sanctions have not been imposed on Iran.

"Without sanctions on Iran's central bank and on its oil exports, the regime will not back down and will not stop its nuclear program," the official said.

U.S. defense leaders are increasingly concerned that Israel is preparing to take military action against Iran, over U.S. objections, and have stepped up contingency planning to safeguard U.S. facilities in the region in case of a conflict.
President Barack Obama, Defense Secretary Leon Panetta and other top officials have delivered a string of private messages to Israeli leaders warning about the dire consequences of a strike. The U.S. wants Israel to give more time for the effects of sanctions and other measures intended to force Iran to abandon its perceived efforts to build nuclear weapons.
Mr. Panetta and other top officials have privately sought assurances from Israeli leaders in recent weeks that they won't take military action against Iran. But the Israeli response has been noncommittal, U.S. officials said.
U.S. officials briefed on the military's planning said concern has mounted over the past two years that Israel may strike Iran. But rising tensions with Iran and recent changes at Iranian nuclear sites have ratcheted up the level of U.S. alarm.
"Our concern is heightened," a senior U.S. military official said of the probability of an Israeli strike over U.S. objections.

Debka weighs in:

US-Israeli discord over action against Iran went into overdrive Sunday, Jan. 15 when the White House called off Austere Challenge 12, the biggest joint war game the US and Israel have every staged, ready to go in spring, in reprisal for a comment by Israeli Deputy Prime Minister Moshe Yaalon in an early morning radio interview. He said the United States was hesitant over sanctions against Iran's central bank and oil for fear of a spike in oil prices.
The row between Washington and Jerusalem is now in the open, undoubtedly causing celebration in Tehran.

The exercise was officially postponed from spring 2012 to the last quarter of the year over "budgetary constraints" – an obvous diplomatic locution for cancellation.
It was issued urgently at an unusually early hour Washington time, say DEBKAfile's sources, to underscore the Obama administration's total disassociation from any preparations to strike Iran and to stress its position that if an attack took place, Israel alone would be accountable.

Israel's Deputy Prime minister further inflamed one of the most acute disagreements in the history of US-Israeli relations over the Obama administration's objections to an Israel military action against Iran's nuclear sites in any shape or form. Yaalon ventured into tricky terrain when he pointed out that US Congress had shown resolve by enacting legislation for sanctions with real bite. But the White House "hesitated." He went on to say: "A military operation is the last resort, but Israel must be ready to defend itself."

The friction was already fueled last week by the deep resentment aroused in Israel by Washington's harsh condemnation of the assassination last Wednesday, Jan. 11, of the nuclear scientist Prof. Mostafa Ahmadi-Roshan, and absolute denial of any US involvement.

Israeli leaders also suspect that the Obama administration may be foot-dragging deliberately in the hope of encouraging Iran to enter into negotiations and so avoid a military showdown. They point out that all previous rounds of talks were exploited for Iran's forward leaps in their nuclear weapon drive, free of international hassle.

This development is not only ominous in terns of U.S.-Israeli relations, but Iran will become even more emboldened. Israel has far more at stake than the U.S. Israel's very existence is hanging in the balance, while the U.S. has the luxury of time.

As we already know from biblical prophecy, Israel will be forced to stand alone in the last days, and at some point in the future this prophecy will be complete. Ultimately we should expect to see the U.S. pull further away from any support for Israel - however, one caveat in this equation is the fact that we are in an election year, and that alone makes anything possible during 2012.

Unbelievable... You are so right, Scott. The US blinked. It's infuriating! If I didn't know that our God has it all in his hands, AND He has an AMAZING PLAN coming forth, well... I'm just glad I know. Thank you Lord God for being in control of EVERYTHING!

Btw, I liked your editing functions! In the blue, it's easier to see what you've put in bold. Font change is always nice, too!

Alice - I agree completely!

As far as the blog - are you saying you prefer the bolded, or the quotes in blue?

Now we see Israel completely alone. I see this as a sign of a war getting closer, not further away.

Stephen
Accepting or rejecting Christ and his messengers, such as yourself is a matter of choice. The power of Jesus is manifest in His believers through the Holy Spirit. The power of Jesus is lost on the non-believers. He remains equally powerful regardless of the fact that some humans refuse to accept His gift of salvation. But you will be rewarded for your efforts to reach the lost - that is a guarantee.

Stephen, read Luke 21, verse 10-13, all the more proof you have that Jesus is coming soon.

Stephen, that is a private site so they do have a right to give and revoke membership....but....Jesus is more powerful than that. If He wished but that's not the way He works. He must be wanted...Jesus is a gentleman, He only goes where He's wanted...they have to believe in Him and invite Him into their lives. He won't force Himself onto them.

Its as Scott said.

And, as a Christian, we are quickly losing our ability to speak and worship freely.

It is sad. Just keep living and preaching the word....people may scorn you, but they will hear.

His word never returns empty!

scott, yeh, I guess you are right.
Dylan, thanks for your words of
hope, you too Caver.....I remember
what is what like, I used to go thru this, I had people preach
to me and I would reject it. But
I made a CHOICE to reject it.
Back then I did.

and i knew I was doing that, making
a willful choide against it. Then
in OCT 1977 I found out about the
Shroud of turin, and I realized,
as I have said before, that I had
denied Jesus his rightful place
with me. That was not fair.

He proved himself to me, and i accepted it quickly. yet, it
still amazes me, i told those
people about the shroud on that silly gay site, it was a RECENT
article, i think u guys remember it, about the measurements of short
wave radiation PROVING a resurrection from that burial cloth.

OK, so i tell these gay people about that, all they do is laugh.
Unbelievable.

i mean, i did not even know about the radiation EVIDENCE in 1977
and i accepted it, and know
there is MORE PROOF, much more a few weeks ago, and people still
SCOFF at that ????

Really ??
that is sad....

Also, please google Tamara Near
Death experience video, done
by Pat Robertson of 700 club.

You will be amazed by what she saw.

I told the Gay site about that.
Shortly after that, I got banned.
These gay boys have NO IDEA the
HELL that is waiting for them
IF THEY do not turn to Jesus.

They need to be stopped NOW !!!!

Stephen, rest assured...your words registered. They struck a nerve and for some of those lost folk, when the time is right, those words will be remembered and cause a reevaluation.

Just like it was with you, and most of us, there will come a time when each will have to reconcile what they feel and know down deep with what is occurring in the world. For some, hopefully, it will lead to repentance and coming to salvation.

All you can do is plant the seed Brother. Just get the seed planted, and trust the Lord to do what you KNOW he can do....water it, nurture it, and give it what it needs to sprout and grow.

You did your job, now just trust the Lord to do His.

I just meant that when you used THIS blue font in this particular post, for whatever reason it is easier to see what you have in bold than it has been. (The bold stands out better than usual.)

Hope that makes sense!

Thanks Alice. I see what you mean...Its this new format that I am struggling with, but I'm glad you like it. Maybe it is easier to read. I have some tinkering to do but I just don't have time lately!

Scott, I find it a whole lot easier to read and differentiate one part from another.

Thank you for allllll of your hard work. I pray the Lord will bless you abundantly.

Thanks Helen - its nice to have the feedback. It seems a little schizophrenic for now, but I'll get used to it, I do like the differentiation between comments though that does seem somewhat easier to read.
