Israeli Borders: Determined by the UN?

We've heard these calls before - this idea of forcing Israel into "pre-1967" borders which would include Israel giving up the West Bank, East Jerusalem (at a minimum) and the Golan Heights - and doing this without Israeli agreement. In other words, forcing Israel to accept these borders, along with vast amounts of land, as imposed by "the nations". These discussions have been relatively quiet for a few months, but in the face of failing peace talks, we are seeing this issue raised once again:

Abbas may circumvent Israel, ask U.S. to recognize Palestinian state

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas has told Arab leaders he may seek U.S. recognition for a Palestinian state, which would include all of the West Bank, should peace talks with Israel break down, an aide said on Saturday.

The idea, raised during Arab League deliberations in Libya on Friday, would place new pressure on Israel to extend a recently expired freeze on construction of settlements in the West Bank - a Palestinian condition for continuing recently relaunched direct peace negotiations.

Senior Palestinian negotiator Saeb Erekat said "alternatives" to the face-to-face talks launched five weeks ago had been discussed, among them "ask(ing) the United States to recognize the state of Palestine on the 1967 borders."

"[Another] is to study the possibility of going to the [United Nations] Security Council to get a resolution that calls upon member states to recognize the state of Palestine on the 1967 borders," he told Reuters by telephone from the Libyan town of Sirte.

Palestinians want a state in the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, and in the Gaza Strip - territory that Israel captured from Jordan and Egypt in the 1967 war. Israel quit Gaza in 2005 but insists on keeping all of Jerusalem and swathes of West Bank settlements under any peace accord.

It will be interesting to see if this proposal gains momentum and what the consequences would be if this proposal becomes reality. It is most definitely something worth watching closely.

In other news:

Pope calls for a global authority on economy

Pope Benedict called on Tuesday for a "world political authority" to manage the global economy and for more government regulation of national economies to pull the world out of the current crisis and avoid a repeat.

Benedict said "there is an urgent need of a true world political authority" whose task would be "to manage the global economy; to revive economies hit by the crisis; to avoid any deterioration of the present crisis and the greater imbalances that would result."

Such an authority would have to be "regulated by law" and "would need to be universally recognized and to be vested with the effective power to ensure security for all, regard for justice, and respect for rights."

"Obviously it would have to have the authority to ensure compliance with its decisions from all parties, and also with the coordinated measures adopted in various international forums," he said.

The United Nations, economic institutions and international finance all had to be reformed "even in the midst of a global recession," he said in the encyclical...

That seems bad enough, but is this agenda going to be picked up by the G8?

German Chancellor Angela Merkel, who had rebuked the pope earlier this year at the height of the row over a Holocaust-denying bishop, welcomed the encyclical as important encouragement for world leaders ahead of a G8 meeting in Italy.

"Pope Benedict has encouraged the state leaders to create rules so that this sort of worldwide economic crisis isn't repeated," Merkel told reporters. "I also saw this as an order to work toward a social market economy in the world."

The pope appeared to back government intervention "in correcting errors and malfunctions" in the economy, saying "one could foresee an increase in the new forms of political participation, nationally and internationally."

This is something else worth watching closely. What is interesting, for a prophecy watcher, is the fact that we know such a figure will arise and take the world into the Tribulation. During this time, as described in the book of Revelation, the antichrist and the false prophet will have such power and authority - exactly as proposed.

The road to the Tribulation continues to be paved.

And let's not forget that the Beast will ride the Whore of Babylon for a time, until his power is established, even though he hates the Whore and eventually destroys her (as determined by God, we read). I would speculate that this foolish pope is hitching up his organization's saddle.

Good point Glenn.

I don't think the MOTB gets instituted until the Whore of Babylon is destroyed and the AOD takes place. Then we'll see the MOTB implemented with a world-wide currency etc. Yep - the Beast will ride the Whore for a period - as you say, until his "power is established" - I agree.

Scott, this article with the Pope just blows me away. It’s like the icing on top of this eschatological cake that is almost done. Everywhere we look there’s a Biblical event taking place.

In one direction there is this massive push towards global governance and global economy – even “rational” news sources agree it’s coming, which is really amazing. In another direction there is a massive push towards ecumenism of all religions, and at the same time a growing hatred of Biblical Christianity. Then in a third direction we’re seeing this massive push towards a massive war in Israel.

I can’t imagine there has ever been a time when all these things have come together on this scale before. We so often say that these things make us look up for our redemption drawing near, and that we are listening for that last trump to sound. But man, I have to say that I’ve never before seen the rapture as imminent as it seems today. Sure, I could be wrong about how soon, but it does indeed appear that the birth pangs are blaring louder and louder!

On the one hand, I hope Jesus delays and draws our unsaved loved ones to Him while we wait. But on the other hand, I’m looking so forward to His return.

If He doesn’t return soon though, I do think life here will get increasingly more difficult for us. Keep it up brother, and God bless your ministry!

hey glenn (and scott) its my belief that tho the catholic church may lead the system, the emergent church no doubt will play a huge role in it.

hart, I too think the emergent
church will play a huge role.
It certainly appears that they
are in agreement with the Catholic \
church in more and more things.

Hello Scott
I wish I could whisper on this thing!

Its a bit embarrassing to mention, but I hear a strong rumour that some folk reckon Daniels 70th Week starts next month in November.
I'M not saying it - I am only whispering the goss. :-/

Joe -
I agree 100% with all of your comments. I know I have said this before, but when I used discuss a world currency, a world government, a world dictator, etc., it was difficult to discuss and made me feel somewhat uncomfortable because I just knew there were folks thinking "OK, this stuff is going too far", or "Oh no, another 'conspiracy guy'" etc...And some folks would make comments that it was hard to see such a scenario...But today, in just a FEW YEARS, it is common discussion and barely raises eyebrows. That strikes me as much as anything. Additionally, as a result, such discussions were brief and weren't much more than a minor focus (still that way to some degree).

Any other time like this? Thats a no brainer isn;t it - even the "basic signs" - wars, rumors of war, Nation against Nation, quakes, pestilences, famine - etc are all happening in such unprecedented numbers, its ridiculous. And we "all" take those signs as granted, and look at the more interesting/imminent things like Gog-MaGog, Isaiah 17/Psalm 83, Tribulation signs, and now, world governance, world finances etc.

Frankly, I didn't think we'd see the day that we would see some of these things - many of the things we are discussing right now, in this thread, were things that I really didn't expect would happen until the Trib. Something else that is almost shocking, Especially when you consider how close we are to having a central currency (which will ultimately dictate a "governance" over the finances - centrally. We're very very close to that.

Just amazing.

Thanks so much for the kind comments - they are greatly appreciated and they mean a ton. Its nice to know this message is getting out there. For me, it's mandatory. Having the information - then dictates sharing it. But its great because these times we are living in - are just so exciting - and having other folks out there, who are also excited about what all of this REALLY means - primarily meeting and being with Jesus - makes for the best in Christian fellowship (IMO).
God Bless and thanks again -
Scott

I agree - I can also see a post-rapture "emergent church" and what's left of the RCC, coming together in a big way. I've always been in the camp that believes that Mystery Babylon is Rome (I'm not passionate about that, just my belief), and this is what gets destroyed in Rev 18. Then when Rome is destroyed and that "religion" along with it, is when the AC goes to the Temple and the AOD, and at that point the "worship" is only directed to the AC. But honestly, I don't spend that much time studying these nuances of the Trib, for the usual reasons :) ((Me being a narcissist and such and since I won't be here ...:)

Watch The rise of Germany in prophecy.Never before has one of its sons been elected Pope before Benidict.Consider the fact that Germany has the largest economy in europe by far and is growing at and astounding rate. They are the undisputed leader of the european union, and have said that nothing goes unless it passes through Berlin first. There Defence minister who was mentored by pope Benedict, has plans for the German war machine. My belief is this. That the Roman catholic church, along with Germanys european union, will try for the ultimate prise Jurusalem. Then will begin world war 3. But the great news is that good will overcome evil with the 2 coming of Jesus. Glory to the lamb that has overcome sin and death!! He holds the keys to the kingdom and of His Kingdom there shall be no end. God bless!! Ronald yoder.

That is interesting to ponder Ronald. I do believe that Germany holds enormous clout as far as the economic decisions being made in the EU, thats for sure.

For what its worth, I have always found it interesting that Bonn is also a "city on seven hills" and also interesting are the references to that compound in Bonn (Petersberg) which is mentioned several times in EU Resolution 666. ust food for thought.
