Rocket fired from Gaza intercepted by Iron Dome; IDF responds with strikes
Palestinian terrorists in the Gaza Strip fired a single rocket towards Israel late Friday that was intercepted by the Iron Dome system, the army said.
The rocket triggered warning sirens in the Eshkol region and local residents reported hearing several explosions. There were no reports of injuries or damage.
In response to the rocket fire, the Israel Defense Forces carried out strikes on terror targets in the Gaza Strip in the early hours of Saturday morning, the military said.
The IDF said it struck a Hamas position used to carry out machine gun fire, and a storage site located near a school and mosques. There were no further details given on what the IDF believed was stored at the facility.
The IDF also said it hit a compound used to produce the concrete used to build the terror group’s underground tunnel network, which is said was located near cultural sites. There were no immediate reports of injuries.
In the statement, the IDF reiterated that it holds Hamas responsible for all terror activities in the enclave.
Hamas released a statement on Saturday morning, stating that
the captureof four of the escaped Gilboa fugitives is "yet another round of confrontation with Israel."
"The escape revived the Palestinian people's hopes that it is only a matter of time until the West Bank 'blows up' in Israel's face," the terrorist organization said.
Palestinian factions have vowed to end all talks of a ceasefire with Israel following the re-capture of the Gilboa Prison fugitives they called "heroic," according to Palestinian media.
In reaction to the re-arrests of Yakoub Mohammed Qadri and Mohammed Ardah late on Friday night, Hamas launched a rocket towards the Eshkol Regional Council in southern Israel. The
IDF responded by carrying out an airstrike in the Gaza Strip.
Violent riots in the West Bank were ongoing throughout the week as hundreds of Palestinians protested in solidarity with the Gilboa Prison escapees.
"The captures are the driving force for us and our people in the West Bank to increase the protests," Hamas said.
The IDF carried out an airstrike in Gaza on Friday night after Hamas shot a rocket towards the Eshkol Regional Council in the south of Israel. The rocket was intercepted by the Iron Dome.
The IDF made a statement that they struck a Hamas position used for shooting, a storage facility next to a school and mosques, and a military facility that creates cement for tunnels.
"Once again, Hamas proved that they purposely place their assets at the heart of the civilian population in Gaza," they wrote in a tweet. "The IDF will continue to strike against terror attempts and sees Hamas as responsible for all that is done in the Gaza Strip."
Meanwhile, attacks and riots broke out all across the West Bank on Friday afternoon and into the night.
An attempted stabbing attack took place at Lion's Gate in the Old City of Jerusalem on Friday afternoon.
Hamas welcomed the attempted attack: "The Palestinian people will not stand by in the face of enemy aggression against our prisoners. In the coming days, there will be more resistance operations, for the freedom of the prisoners," they said, according to Army Radio.
The entrances to the Temple Mount were closed after the attempted stabbing attempt, Walla reported.
There were reported clashes between Palestinian youth and Israeli forces in the town of Shuafat, where Julani is from on Friday night, according to Palestinian news outlet Al-Aqsa Radio.
There were also violent clashes that broke out between Palestinians and IDF forces in a number of areas in the West Bank, including Hebron, Beit Umar, Kalkilya, and Beita on Friday afternoon and Friday night, Army Radio reported.
