King Abdullah II vows justice for 9 dead, 40 wounded in terror attack on church

All churches in Jordan will be closed for the next few days as security forces and intelligence officials try to figure out if more attacks are planned and by whom. Christian conferences and other gatherings have been canceled or postponed out of an abundance of caution.

To his credit, Jordan’s King Abdullah II immediately condemned the attack, vowed to bring those responsible to justice, and went to visit a hospital where wounded and traumatized Christians were being treated.

“Those who imagined that treacherous bullets could divide Jordanians have been thwarted by our resilience and unity,” the Muslim monarch said, vowing harsh retaliation.

My wife and I are grieving the brazen and wicked terror attack targeting Christians gathered at a funeral service being held at the St. George Greek Orthodox Church in Hamoud, in the Karak province in southern Jordan on Friday.

The death toll has risen to nine, the Jordan Times reports.

At least 40 more are wounded, some severely.

ISIS quickly claimed responsibility.

We have been in contact with Jordanian Christians that we know.

They are in pain and in shock.

This was the biggest and deadliest attack on Jordanian Christians in living memory and no one is sure what will happen next.

Why was this church targeted?

Was it the beginning of a wave of more attacks?

Did Jordanian security miss warning signs?
