New Year’s Eve Celebrations Scrapped as Terror Threats Put Cities on Edge

New Year’s Eve Celebrations Scrapped as Terror Threats Put Cities on Edge

New Year’s Eve is a night for letting loose, gathering with others, and ringing in the new year with stunning firework shows.

But in big cities around the world, many celebrations are being canceled.

Meanwhile, in American cities like Chicago, authorities are warning that these types of crowded celebrations may be prime targets for terror attacks.

In fact, we’ve already seen multiple terror plots against our cities thwarted in recent days — the most recent in New Orleans, where they are increasing security and monitoring threats ahead of the holiday.

This clip from Fox News explained further:

New Year’s Eve is supposed to be loud, fun, and packed with people. But this year? Cities are canceling the party because they’re scared it could turn into a war zone.

Chicago officials are warning that NYE events are now “attractive targets” for terrorists. Not because of anything specific, but because the setup is perfect for chaos: massive crowds, soft targets, no escape.

In New Orleans, things are worse. The FBI just stopped a bomb plot tied to an extremist group planning to hit ICE agents with pipe bombs and firearms. Their goal? “Take some of them out and scare the rest.”

The feds charged 4 suspects with trying to use weapons of mass destruction, supporting terrorists, and stockpiling illegal firearms. Yes, all for an NYE attack.

Meanwhile, other cities around the world – Paris, Tokyo, Sydney, Monaco – are also canceling fireworks and street parties. They say the risk is just too high.

So here we are. In a world where cities cancel parties out of fear, and law enforcement braces for explosions instead of fireworks.

In addition to the terror plot that the FBI halted in New Orleans, a similar plot was recently stopped in its tracks in Los Angeles.

The cancellations come as the FBI busted a New Year’s Eve bombing plot in Los Angeles earlier this week, arresting four alleged gang members.

Newsweek provided a list of all the countries that are canceling this year’s events:
