The election of a Muslim attorney general in Minnesota raised concerns about an Islamic push in the state and now those concerns are unfolding.
The state’s Democratic-controlled legislature plans to establish a statewide "Task Force on Islamophobia and Anti-Semitism,” and the task force would be led by Attorney General Keith Ellison, the former congressman who is Muslim.
Conservatives are concerned that the task force would be stacked with people devoted to Islamic doctrines actually calling for more anti-Semitism.
Laurie Cardoza-Moore, founder of Proclaiming Justice to the Nations, predicts problems.
“Because if anybody speaks out against Islam,” she warns, “[Ellison] could file a lawsuit against that individual, and they could be arrested.”
It’s not paranoia to make such a claim, either: Cardoza-Moore points out that such a fight is happening in Europe, where an Austrian woman was found guilty of “disparagement of religious precepts” for stating publicly that Muhammad was a pedophile for marrying a 6-year-old girl.
An Austrian court found her guilty in 2011 and the European Court of Human Rights upheld her conviction last year.
Cardoza-Moore says Ellison could use the task force to protect U.S. Rep. Ilhan Omar, the controversial freshman lawmaker who continues to draw protests over her controversial comments. The most recent was her flippant reference to the 9/11 attacks as "some people did something."
But the Left has turned that criticism into claims the response is racist and Omar's life is endangered (see video below) by such criticism.
It’s hard to believe the task force could become law in Minnesota, Cardoza-Moore adds, “but the states have a right to govern themselves.”
