Let me begin by saying that this commentary is somewhat speculative on my part, yet it is influenced by the prophetic revelations in God’s Word and the rapidly accelerating events of the present day.
We know from Ezekiel Chapter 38 that a coalition of countries and their cohorts will attack Israel from the north in the “latter days” (Ezekiel 38:16).
“And the word of the LORD came to me, saying, ‘Son of man, set your face against Gog of the land of Magog, the chief prince of Meshech and Tubal. Prophesy against him and declare that this is what the Lord GOD says: Behold, I am against you, O Gog, chief prince of Meshech and Tubal. I will turn you around, put hooks in your jaws, and bring you out with all your army—your horses, your horsemen in full armor, and a great company armed with shields and bucklers, all brandishing their swords. Persia, Cush, and Put will accompany them, all with shields and helmets, as well as Gomer with all its troops, and Beth-togarmah from the far north with all its troops—the many nations with you” (Ezekiel 38:1-6). We also know that this “coalition” will primarily be built around Russia (Gog) and Iran (Persia), with numerous other Jew-hating partners involved as well. A huge army:
“And you will come from your place out of the far north—you and many peoples with you, all riding horses—a mighty horde, a huge army” (Ezekiel 38:15). Emphasis added by me. Read the entirety of Ezekiel 38 and 39 for clarity.
This recent, finalization of a formal alliance between the two key players is most noteworthy and aligns with God’s prophecy as given by Ezekiel some 600 years before the birth of Jesus.
Russia-Iran Security Deal
“On January 17, 2025, Russia and Iran signed a Treaty on Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in Moscow. The treaty, signed by Russian President Vladimir Putin and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, aims to strengthen military, economic, and political ties between the two nations. This agreement formalizes their close relationship and includes provisions for cooperation in defense, counter-terrorism, energy, finance, and culture.” Emphasis added by me. Given events over the last several months, these three thoughts immediately came to mind since Russia and Iran completed this formal agreement on 17 January.

1 — Iran: Actions taken by Israel to severely weaken Iran’s defensive capabilities will likely(?) mean the “partnership” will be extremely one-sided. The failure of the vaunted Russian air defense and missile systems in the face of the IAF’s strike technology could put Iran in a position where they will need to call out to their “strategic partner” in the near future. Their nuclear aspirations are at risk, as well as their stated intention to destroy Israel. And they have lost control of Syria.
2 — Russia’s military forces being spread very thin by the Ukraine war could conceivably lead to the Ezekiel 38/39 war being a strategic gamble to inflict a rapid knock-out blow to Israel. The “hook” might be that signed defensive contract. Ironically, when that attack happens, the result will be similar to what happened to the Germans during WWII when they enacted their lightning war (blitzkrieg) on the Russians.
In WWII the Germans were defeated by their own greed, determined Russian forces, and a failure to heed the inevitable intervention of the Russian winter.
In the case of the Ezekiel 38/39 invasion, Russia, Iran, and their huge army will be defeated by the inevitable intervention of God Almighty, whom they honor with their lips but not in their hearts – otherwise, they would know better than to ignore Him and His Word. God will execute His own blitzkrieg on the mountains of Israel, and the canard of Allah will be exposed.
3 — The recent re-election of a real president in America has and will likely continue to bring an entirely new dynamic to these rapidly changing events. How will this affect the progression of these events? We must wait and see.
One thing is certain. All the prophecies of God’s Word will be literally fulfilled.
I believe that from current appearances, it will be likely to happen soon.
