Around 80 rockets targeted several different areas of northern Israel in three separate waves on Tuesday evening, as the IDF responded with strikes on Hezbollah sites in southern Lebanon, which media reports claimed killed at least five people, including three Syrian children.

The first salvo set off waves of sirens in the border city of Kiryat Shmona and a number of surrounding areas. The IDF later said that at least 40 rockets had been fired toward the city in the attacks.

Several of the rockets were shot down by the Iron Dome, but some struck the northern city, causing damage to buildings, according to police. There were no reports of injuries.

Several hours later, a separate wave of 10 rockets fired from Lebanon set off sirens in the Western Galilee, which the IDF said all landed in open areas, causing no injuries.

Shortly before 11 p.m., 20-30 rockets were fired toward the Mount Meron area in the Upper Galilee, the IDF said. Numerous Iron Dome interceptions could be seen over the Mount Meron area.

Several were intercepted by the Iron Dome, while other struck open areas. Some of the rocket impacts sparked fires. There were no reported injuries.

Hezbollah claimed responsibility for the attack, saying it came as a response to the killing of three Syrian children earlier.

On Tuesday evening, the IDF said that it had struck the launcher used in the attack on Kiryat Shmona. The launcher, in the area of Jabal Blat, was targeted by a drone, the military said. Separately, the IDF said that it targeted a Hezbollah cell in the area of Yarine in southern Lebanon.

Lebanese official media said that five people were killed in the separate Israeli strikes on south Lebanon, including three Syrian children.

“Three Syrian children” were killed “in an enemy raid that targeted farmland in the village of Umm Toot,” the National News Agency (NNA) said. Umm Toot is nearby the Yarine area.

NNA also said that an “enemy” drone strike had targeted a motorcycle on the Kfar Tebnit road elsewhere in south Lebanon, killing two Syrians. A Lebanese security source, requesting anonymity as they were not authorized to speak to the media, told AFP that the two Syrians were “civilians” who worked nearby and had been swimming in the area.

The NNA said “eyewitnesses reported that the motorbike was carrying two people and that when a number of citizens tried to approach the bike… it was subjected to a second strike.”

Late Tuesday evening, the IDF said that it had also struck buildings used by Hezbollah in southern Lebanon’s Kafr Kila and Ayta ash-Shab. Additional Hezbollah infrastructure was struck in Aitaroun and Ayta ash-Shab, the IDF adds.

Earlier in the day, the IDF said that two Hezbollah operatives were targeted in a drone strike in southern Lebanon’s Mansouri. The IDF said the pair were struck after they were identified fleeing from a site used to launch rockets at Kiryat Shmona.

Late on Monday night, 20 rockets fired from Lebanon targeted Kiryat Shmona. Most of them were intercepted, the IDF said, with no injuries reported. Some of the rockets landed in the largely evacuated city of Kiryat Shmona, including one that hit a shopping mall.
