Russia unexpectedly deployed the S-500 "Prometheus" air defense system, the final piece of the puzzle necessary for a nuclear first strike.

The Russians believe they now have the ability to repel a counter-offensive nuclear strike by NATO, which changes the balance of strategic power between the two camps.

Kinzhal, Avangard, Sarmat, RSM-56 Bulava and now the S-500. Almost all of Russia's strategic weapons are in combat service, a fact that "frees" the hands of the Russian military leadership.

The head of the intelligence service of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine (GUR) Kirill Budanov said that Russia has placed elements of the most modern S-500 "Prometheus" air defense system in Crimea.

"The latest details of the S-500 have surfaced. This is, in principle, an experimental application. Well, they've already appeared there," Budanov said.

It is recalled that on April 23, 2024, the then Minister of Defense of Russia, Sergei Shoigu, stated that "this year, the troops will receive the first next-generation S-500 air defense systems in two modifications: long-range surface-to-air missile systems and anti-ballistic defense systems missiles".

According to Russia's announcements from time to time, the S-500 air defense system has the ability to effectively intercept, in addition to aerodynamic and ballistic targets, and hypersonic weapons of all types and categories, threats and in space, at a distance of hundreds of kilometers from the earth.

The range of the system, according to information from Russian sources, reaches 600 kilometers, exceeding by 200 kilometers the fourth-generation S-400 air defense system.

Everyone associates the deployment of the S-500 with the protection of the Kerch Bridge. But that is a secondary issue.

The primary objective is to secure Crimea, develop a multi-layered defense with great breadth and depth to intercept NATO nuclear missiles. Perhaps the hits to the Voronezh-DM strategic early warning and combat radar accelerated the development of the S-500.

The system's ability to engage hypersonic targets essentially marks a major milestone in air defense technology, placing Russia at the forefront of missile defense capabilities.

It is a given, however, that if Russia deployed S-500s in Crimea, then they have been deployed in Moscow as well.

Everything shows that Russia is preparing for the worst possible scenario, that of a nuclear attack.
