A M5.7 earthquake struck southwest Iran on Monday, July 8, 2019, at a depth of 17 km (10.5 miles), killing 1, injuring more than hundreds and causing widespread damage across southern Iran.
The earthquake struck 84 km (52 miles) east of the Iranian city of Ahvaz – a town which hosts the third-largest oil field in the world and 450 km (280 miles) southwest of the capital, Tehran.

Shaking was felt in Iraq and Kuwait. However, no damage or injures have been reported in either country so far.

Official reports indicate that the quake killed one person and injured at least 110 people in Iran.
Significant damage was reported in the town of Masjid Soleiman. Electricity and water supplies have been disrupted across the hardest hit regions.
