In The Middle East: More War Preparations As Israel Continues "Mock Raids" Over Lebanon

The movements towards war continue in a step-wise progression, and everything we see in the news today points to imminent war. As Jesus stated in His Oliver Discourse, we should expect to see wars and rumors of war, and indeed that is exactly what we are seeing now on a daily basis.

We know that Isaiah 17 and Ezekiel 38-39 are just around the corner, and in a single news cycle we see the build-up continuing. It won't be long now:

Lebanese media reported Sunday afternoon that Israeli war planes were spotted in the skies above southern Lebanon.
It appeared the pilots were rehearsing attacks on targets in the region, local sources told media outlets.

Both Syria and Lebanon accused Israel of carrying out air strikes on a convoy last Wednesday that was transporting Russian-made surface-to-air missiles from the Damascus area towards the border with Lebanon.

Barak did not bluntly say that Israel had carried out the strike, skirting the issue by saying, “I cannot add anything to what you have read... about what happened in Syria several days ago.
“But I keep telling ... that we said, and that is another proof that when we say something we mean it, we say that it should not be allowable to bring advanced weapons systems into Lebanon and Hizbullah from Syria when [Syrian President Bashar al-] Assad falls.”
Barak added that in his view, “Hizbullah from Lebanon and the Iranians are the only allies that Assad has left.” He said the region has not been this unstable since the collapse of the Ottoman Empire

Israeli Defense Minister Ehud Barak brought the issue up at a gathering of the world’s top diplomats and defense officials in Germany, initially saying: “I cannot add anything to what you have read in the newspapers about what happened in Syria several days ago.”
But, addressing the audience in English, he then added: “I keep telling frankly that we said – and that’s proof when we said something we mean it- we say that we don’t think it should be allowed to bring advanced weapons systems into Lebanon.”
In Syria, President Bashar Assad said his military was capable of confronting any “aggression” targeting the country, his first comments since the airstrike.

The chief of Iran’s powerful Revolutionary Guards said in remarks Sunday that Tehran also hopes Syria will retaliate against Israel for a recent airstrike on its territory.
The report by the official IRNA news agency quotes Gen. Mohammad Ali Jafari as saying, “We are hopeful that Syria gives an appropriate response to the strike in the proper time.”

Israel’s defense minister Ehud Barak had strong words for Iran and its allies at the Munich Security Conference Sunday, Feb. 3, while, in Damascus, Iran’s National Security Director Saeed Jalili conferred urgently with Syrian President Bashar Assad. They discussed activating the secret mutual defense pact binding Iran, Syria, Hizballlah and Hamas in reprisal for the Israeli air strike which reportedly hit a military complex near Damascus last Wednesday.

Iranian and intelligence sources believe the Iranians are simply playing for time to decide how to retaliate for Israel’s reported strike on the military complex which Syria shares with its allies. The man to watch is Jalilee who, we can report exclusively, arrived post haste in Damascus Saturday, Feb. 2, to warn Syrian leaders that Tehran is not willing to forego a military response to an attack which destroyed a whole supply of advanced Iranian weapons Tehran sent to Hizballah in the last two years and which were stored at the Jamraya compound.

The Syrian ruler clearly agrees with his Iranian guest. Sunday, he accused Israel of trying to "destabilize" his country. His first remarks on the reported Israeli air strike in Syria on Wednesday came after he met Jalilee. He added that Syria was able to confront "current threats... and aggression."

Barak’s tough comments in Munich told Tehran that Israel is ready to remove the gloves against Syria and Hizballlah. Iranian leaders heeded his words well while at the same time keeping track of the Syrian opposition leader Mouaz al-Khatib’s meetings in Munich with US Vice President Joe Biden and, for the first time, with the foreign ministers of Russia and Iran, Sergey Lavrov and Ali Akbar Salehi.

Israeli warplanes reportedly buzzed southern Lebanon on Sunday and conducted “mock raids” for the third consecutive day, according to the Lebanese National News Agency.
The government outlet reported earlier in the weekend that Israel Air Force jets flew over the southern Lebanese towns of Nabatieh, Tuffah, Marjayoun and Bint Jbeil.

On Friday, a Lebanese security official reported that Israeli warplanes flew over southern Lebanon and were headed toward the eastern Bekaa Valley on the Syrian border.
Israel Radio on Friday cited a Lebanese media report that claimed Israeli jets were conducting reconnaissance missions over several sites in the south.

Israel’s army chief on Sunday landed in the United States for talks with his American counterpart, amid tension with Syria following a reported Israel airstrike there last week. He arrived as Israel’s defense minister insisted that Israel “means what it says” about preventing advanced weaponry being moved into Lebanon as Bashar Assad’s regime in Damascus loses control.

IDF chief of General Staff Lt.-Gen. Benny Gantz began a five-day work visit in the United States as the guest of the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Gen. Martin E. Dempsey, the IDF announced on Sunday afternoon.
It said Gantz and Dempsey would hold “a series of work meetings together” and with other American officials, and would “discuss current security challenges, the regional security status in the Middle East and military cooperation.”

Gantz was accompanied by the head of the IDF’s Planning Directorate, Maj.-Gen. Nimrod Sheffer.

Apart from the Syria crisis, the two military chiefs will likely also focus on Iran’s nuclear weapons drive. Formally starting the process of building his new government on Saturday night, Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said stopping Iran would be his first priority. Late last summer, amid reports that Netanyahu wanted to launch military action against Iran, Dempsey publicly and dramatically declared that he would not want to be “complicit” in any such Israeli action.

Since the outbreak of the Syrian civil war, Israeli leaders have repeatedly expressed fears that if Syria were to disintegrate, Assad could lose control of his chemical weapons and other arms.

On Saturday night, Netanyahu, who is in the process of forming a new ruling coalition, said his new government would have to deal with weapons "being stockpiled near us and threatening our cities and civilians" — an apparent reference to the deteriorating situation in Syria.

Barak said "Hezbollah from Lebanon and the Iranians are the only allies that Assad has left." He said in his view Assad's fall "is coming imminently" and when it happens, "this will be a major blow to the Iranians and Hezbollah."

"I think that they will pay the price," he said.

As a top security official from Tehran arrived in Damascus to show support for the regime of President Bashar Assad, a senior Iranian military chief warned that there will a massive response to Israel’s alleged attack on a Syrian research facility last week, Iranian Press TV reported on Sunday.
“Syria’s response to the recent aggression of the Zionist regime against this country will send this regime into a coma,” Brig. Gen. Masoud Jazayeri, the  deputy chairman of the Iranian Armed Forces, said on Saturday.
Iran on Thursday threatened “grave consequences for Tel Aviv” after an alleged Israeli airstrike on Syrian military targets early Wednesday morning.
Jazayeri added that the era in which hegemonic powers bullied independent nations had come to an end, the report said.
“In the new era, the criminals should know that behind their every blow lies a massive retaliatory blow, whose time, level and magnitude will be determined by the resolve of the free and anti-hegemonic nations,” he warned.
Jazayeri’s comments came as Saeed Jalili, the secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, arrived in Damascus for a round of talks with senior regime officials, including Assad.
“Syria is considered the front line of the Muslim world in the face of the Zionist enemy,” Jalili said. “Enemies are attacking the Syrian infrastructure and imposing economic sanctions on it, in a desperate attempt to break the resistance and steadfastness of the Syrian nations.”
Jalili warned that Iran would not permit another Israeli attack on Syria. In 2006 Iran and Syria signed a military cooperation pact.

Iran is acquiring new centrifuges to reduce the time it takes to enrich uranium, Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu said at the start of Sunday's cabinet meeting, citing this as an example of why the country needs a national unity government.
Netanyahu said Israel is at a "decisive point" in its history, and repeated his call for a national unity government  made Saturday night, when President Shimon Peres formally charged him with forming a coalition.

"The next government's primary objective will be to stop the weaponization of Iran's nuclear program," he said. "This is a task that is becoming more difficult because Iran is acquiring new centrifuges that reduce the enrichment time. We cannot accept this."

Iran announced last week that it is upgrading its nuclear enrichment equipment at the Natanz nuclear plant, something that will speed up the uranium enrichment process. A senior official in the Prime Minister's Office said following that announcement that while the West was discussing where and when to meet Iran next, Iran is speedily working toward getting the bomb.

Members of Congress are asking the Obama administration to reconsider sending F-16 fighter jets to Egypt due to popular protests against the government and its use of anti-Semitic language.
“Recent violent outbreaks and the volatile situation in Egypt should give the US reason to pause when considering continuing to provide foreign assistance to the government of Egypt,” said Republican Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen, ranking member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee’s Middle East subcommittee, in announcing she was signing onto the letter sponsored by Republican Rep. Tim Griffin to US President Barack Obama and Secretary of State John Kerry. The letter requests that the administration delay the delivery of F-16 planes.

Ros-Lehtinen continued, “Even more disconcerting are Morsi’s views toward our closest friend and ally, the democratic Jewish State of Israel.”
She said that his statements “clearly reveal a man who holds Jews and Israel in such contempt that it would not be out of the realm of possibility to believe he is capable of turning his aggression toward Israel.”

Tensions are running high in the North of Israel. The IDF is bracing for possible retaliation by Syria, Hezbollah, and/or Iran after its recent air strikes on Syrian targets. Some Mideast analystsbelieve it’s just a matter of time before there is significant trouble on Israel’s northern borders.

“Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Saturday night promised to establish ‘the widest possible national unity government’ and urged even those political leaders who did not recommend him as prime minister to reconsider and join him,” reports the Times of Israel. “Netanyahu spoke immediately after President Shimon Peres, at a ceremony at the President’s Residence, formally charged him with the task of forming the next government. Netanyahu said the first priority of his new government would be thwarting Iran’s effort to attain nuclear weapons. He also pledged to seek peace, saying ‘every day that passes’ without negotiations with the Palestinians was a day wasted, and urging Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas to come back to the peace table.”

Hello gang, I have ran across something that seriously disturbes me. I won't say (right now) what it is, but I would like some opinions/facts as I know there are many here with tons more biblical knowledge than myself.
Scott, Mrs C, anybody, my question is concerning the rapture. What is your understanding of the rapture? Myself, I have always believed pre-trib rapture. If anyone else shares this view, please tell me how you came to believe it. What scriptures back this up.....i'm struggling with this

Gary said...

Dear David:
I think most people in this blog are pre-trib believers. One good reason for a pre-trib belief is the Holy Spirit. Since the Holy Spirit indwells in us, we cannot be here when the anti- Christ is revealed.

Robin said...

David, I struggled through this very question for some time, before I became completely convinced, the Rapture will occur before the Tribulation begins.

Luke 21:25-28
The Coming of the Son of Man
“ And there will be signs in the sun, in the moon, and in the stars; and on the earth distress of nations, with perplexity, the sea and the waves roaring; men's hearts failing them from fear and the expectation of those things which are coming on the earth, for the powers of the heavens will be shaken. Then they will see the Son of Man coming in a cloud with power and great glory. Now when these things begin to happen, look up and lift up your heads, because your redemption draws near.”

Notice how it says "when these things BEGIN to happen"?

And there's this:

2 Thessalonians 2:6
And now you know what is restraining, that he may be revealed in his own time.

I sincerely believe, we are the vessel the Holy Spirit resides. Once we're gone, there's nothing restraining the AC from ascending to power.

Through out Biblical history, God has set aside His elect in times of Judgement. There's nothing to suggest He would put His beloved Church through the greatest of Judgements.

Besides, once we're saved, we remain saved. Why would He risk placing His church in the predicament of avoiding the Mark?

Robin,
Do not get me wrong, just reading from your comment.
when we see ALL these things begin to take place (all you have written), we look up, redemption NEAR. (does this mean not exactly there but near)?
So We will know and we will see when ALL those things (all you have written) begin to take place?
So when will ALL these things will begin to take place?

Robin said...

Anon, I copied and pasted the verses word for word. They clearly outline "these things". For more information, I would kindly refer you to your Bible.

Dear David,
I am pretrib primarily because of John 14 and this from 1 thess. The whole of the time of Jacobs trouble was told us from Daniel a time for his people. The events of Revelation shake the entire world, killing and poisoning even water and all creatures in it..the atmoshere as people are scorcherd by the sun by war and terrible tyranny. There is no way that anyone will be saying peace and safety at the second coming.

1 Thessalonians 5:1-10

New International Version 1984 (NIV1984)

5 Now, brothers, about times and dates we do not need to write to you, 2 for you know very well that the day of the Lord will come like a thief in the night. 3 While people are saying, “Peace and safety,” destruction will come on them suddenly, as labor pains on a pregnant woman, and they will not escape.

4 But you, brothers, are not in darkness so that this day should surprise you like a thief. 5 You are all sons of the light and sons of the day. We do not belong to the night or to the darkness. 6 So then, let us not be like others, who are asleep, but let us be alert and self-controlled. 7 For those who sleep, sleep at night, and those who get drunk, get drunk at night. 8 But since we belong to the day, let us be self-controlled, putting on faith and love as a breastplate, and the hope of salvation as a helmet. 9 For God did not appoint us to suffer wrath but to receive salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ. 10 He died for us so that, whether we are awake or asleep, we may live together with him.
We meet Him in the air not on earth. At the second coming He comes here. The John 14 passage is very revealing along with Jesus priestly prayer and His personal desire that we see hIm in His glory He had with the Father.
My take on it.

Oh sorry, my fault.
Just to clear up.
1. Based from those verses we wil see "these things" begin to happen ( meaning we are still here right, otherwise we won't see it begin to happen)
2. Do we select which things or all of those things we will see?
3. How many times will the sun be darken and the moon turbed, nto blood and the heaven shaken, because there is also the same signs shown when we read revelation chapter 6 at the opening of the sixth seal at that is before the great day of his wrath is come in vs. 17.

Would it be safe to say that there will be rapture when Jesus comes, and whatever doctrine you hold, just keep the faith and meet you there.

Waterer said...

Anon..Still without even an initial(!),
There believers in the tribulation and these words of hope are given for them. There are two scenarios at play. Why if the church were here is there not a single verse on prep for that horrendous time?
Even Joseph was given dorections on how to save Rgypt and many others including srael when he prepared for the seven years of famine. Noah had 150 years of prep for preaching and preparing to save exactly who the Lord had in mind to save. There is nothing of the days of Noah in the actual 7 year trib. Marrying giving in marriage normalcy. Why would the Lord call the Lords coming the Blessed hope if we were destined for wrath and judgment coming on this world? And again why no directions for how to survive and live till He comes> Why tell us to be on watch and look for His coming when most everyone would be dead when it arrived??Why on earth would He be so intent on our being alert and watching? Jesus is all about this in His parables on the coming.
In this world we have tribulation and He has overcome it. We suffer and will suffer for the sake of the testimony of Jesus and His Lordship but the end times scenario
is without a doubt JUDGEMENT.Jesu has suffered that for us and in our place. Still there will be many who come to faith in those days and Revelation is clear to speak of many deaths and blessed deaths for those who die in the Lord. THey will be seeing things unfold very clearly and knowing what is coming. They watch very differently knowing that the day of His coming can even be counted on. Numbered.
David, I would appreciate your rsponse to those trying to answer your question. Also ,do not be afraid to speak a doubt. We all need to understand how to speak to other believers about this and should be ablewo wrestly the things that are hard in this.
Back to the Suoer Bowl...

I agree with Waterer regarding Daniel. Understanding Daniel's 70 weeks and the seventy sevens is key i understanding how the church age must end and God turns his attention back to the Jews in the Tribulation. After all . . .the purpose of the Tribulation isn't to punish Christians or "separate the wheat from the chafe" but rather to bring the Jews BACK into Covenant.

Wow,so much to absorb to comprehend where we are exactly but agree, the beginning of events are unfolding which will lead very possibly in our life-time to being removed, up in the sky to meet Jesus, Rapture! I think spreading the word, witness for Christ to help save souls is what is left to work at while here on earth. Keep faith and keep learning more about the Bible (helps me), in respect to how we need to be fed the word to remain strong! Thanks!
I enjoyed the flow of dialogue from everyone with using Bibical language so eloquently!!

Anon, I'm only about four minutes into the video . . .but already the narrator has his facts wrong. The UN was created after WWI not WWII under the moniker of "The League of Nations". It was the brain child of Woodrow Wilson and his side kick, whose name temporarily escapes me. The name was changed to the United Nations following WWII.

Robin said...

Sorry, my last post was meant for David, not Anon . . .

As for the rest of the video . . .i sincerely believe Satan WANTS us to be hopeless . . .and not looking up for our Redeemer, which is why such tripe is disseminated. I won't be watching anymore of the video for that reason. He's already discredited.

I spent a very long time researching everything I could get my hands on . . .as well as in prayer that God would open my eyes to the truth. It's through prayer and scripture that I am now confidant in the knowledge we will be Raptured. Those dark forces working overtime to convince the gullible that they will remain on Earth while God brings his elect back into covenant won't count most of us here in their ranks. The Word is all we need . . .

1586-1638, Joseph Meade's theories on the Rapture and end times were almost as popular as the Bible itself. From his writings:

"I will add this more, namely, what may be conceived to be the cause of this RAPTURE of the saints on high to meet the Lord in the clouds, rather than to wait his coming to earth....What if it be, that they may be PRESERVED during the Conflagration of the earth and the works thereof, 2 Pet.3:10, that as Noah and his family were preserved from the Deluge by being lift up above the waters in the Ark; so should the saints at the Conflagration be lift up in the clouds unto their Ark, Christ, to be preserved there from the deluge of fire, wherein the wicked shall be consumed?" ("The Works of Joseph Mede," 1672, London edition, Book IV, p.776)

As far as post-Trib views, um thats not up to you as to whether those false teachings are acceptable here. Take that up with the owner of the blog Brother Scott. Its always the same when this is attempted to posted here, no one can back up these false post-Trib beliefs with sound Scripture when discussing this with him.
Gosh...what a coincidence...multiple anons, in conjunction with new names etc...just amazing...nuff said

Anon,
That post showed nothing . It argued the use of from vs out of but the meaning is the same.
It did NOY say the real meaning ws IN the hour of trial. That is pure misrepresentation. All of those scholars listed agreed it meant from.
Plus And I say this humbly,is our Lord a trickster? Does He plant hidden things to trip us up in arguments over prepositions? They matter of course but there are entire passages that make the point of being alert, awake watchful.
We may disagree on the timing but surely not because of this preposition business. Iam more persuaded than ever in the pretrib position because there is just too much wrapped up in our obedeince to watching. ie faithfulness, purication and hope which does not disappoint. To love His appearing
( now there is a greek word to study!)and long for His Kingdom are not easy things. But they are real places of the heart.Again I ask, where is the good shepherd who would ask not to watch for Him but for terrible things coming in judgment? He tells us we crosses to bear daily. He faithfully lets us know that we are to die to our own desires in relation to His.But where are the promises of rewards for suffering judgment?Judgment.
He bore our judgment. It is finished. I think the work we do now ( believing)is very important. Like the disciples in Gethsemane we need to watch with Him as this hour approaches. But I believe, like the disciples, we will be saved from the coming hour.
At any rate, it is late and I pray for all of us a good rest and an appetite for HIM and His truth and a need for His infilling as we seek to find more answers.

Anon - I just have to laugh every time I see the old reliable 150 year old argument. I have disproven that so many times on this blog its really tiresome. It takes very little leg-work to find the truth to that story and it shows me that you are either simply too lazy to look at the information that is readily available or you are locked in an anti pre-trib view (for whatever reasons) and refuse to see the truth and the massive amount of scriptures that reveal an obvious and clear pre-trib rapture.

Honestly, I can find you FAR better arguments for whatever side you are on (well, not really post trib because I can't find ANY arguments for that) - but if you are pre-wrath or mid-trib, please let me make your arguments for you. But the Margaret McDonald/Darby story is laughable at this point.

I'm going to do this one more time and I will then save it for later when you come back.

1. Margaret McDonalds dreams and visions, if anything, would have revealed a post-trib rapture from what she described.

2. Darby was talking about the Rapture of the CHurch before she even had those dreams and visions.

3. In all of Darby's writings, he only once mentioned M Mcdonald, and he was speaking against her use of tongues.

4. The rapture WAS preached on and written on many any times in church history (not that it even matters - as the book of Daniel informed us that the prophetic scrolls would be unveiled at the end times, so that isn;t a factor ANYWAY. Look at Ephriam of Syria in 300 AD

5. Please answer me this. If the so-called "early church" didn't discuss the rapture (therefore somehow invalidating the pre-trib rapture, which makes no sense, but for the sake of discussion...)

Scott said...

Continued - then why isn't the apostle Paul and the apostle John, oh and Peter (not to mention Luke, Mark, etc) - al discussed the rapture of the church, in the 'early church'. Only their writings were in the Holy Bible. Why are these early church members never included in your argument that the 'early church' didn't discuss the rapture.

So, in summary:

- Your entire argument is based on a false premise
- Your entire argument is moot, because it never occurred as described
- There were many preachings and writings on the pre-trib rapture before Darby was born (read Grant Jeffery's work on this in many of his books)
- The early church DID discuss the pre-trib rapture

So this entire argument is based on a deck of cards built on wet sand in a rising tide :) (sorry, couldn't resist)..

I cannot resist; I am going to veer off course to address Feb. 2nd article about military exercises in urban cities, and motive questionable; Ok,in small town, in the midwest, starting 1999, mixed in with police training by a new former military sheriff was an anti-terrorist tactical training..later learned about. At church where I went some talked of a corrupt judge whom owned land using police to scare, harrass those whom he wanted to sell land to him among other situational issues...so many people started talking about four invisible shadows whom stood on roofs, entered homes, were in their homes, guns pointed with red laser lights, and more happening....purpose was training?, or to convince under duress citzens targeted to do something they did not want to do! Hard to prove, dangerous when flanked by four and sometimes police surrounded outside yet citizens had not done anything wrong, unlawful, but some had gone to fight about rights concerning land, easements, with City Hall prior etc, thus targeted. Now, to quiet the chaos, community told by police, four boys were going around trying to watch young girls(never caught them, lies)..etc. BUT there is more and not the case described and the Point is....its true, because this was before 9/11, and the corrupted judge was looked into. But it just became more covert...now some terrible occurence's happen too but many were to afraid to come out, they feared for their life, lost of homes, reputation to not look crazy, and other unthinkable things, run off road, Killed....So talk died, but mainly cuz people who knew too much were afraid!!!!!!! Internalized some changes may have been made..don't know.. , So yes,, I believe, in my opinion..it already had started and Ok look, military gives duh, their own training,, and police have their own mock areas to train so to come upon and pull covert tormenting people in homes military covert style, (I do love our military, not this type of abuse though),, shimming in trees with paint on, watching people, and more, I do not see how this fits in the equation of training when they won't even admit anything going on. Just ask people: "How do you Know?" Its a "Prove It, It Never Happen" Its real and irks me about people I knew who had lives ruined because of those abuses...it is real... Now need more people to expose it. To hide behind it, gives them power to pull this crap on law abiding citizans. Sure, sting operations with those under survillance if criminals.and then arrest made. This is no arrest, just invade privacy, ruin, more to enhance skill-sets and reasons I really don't know except parallels with article so I believe the testimonies of those who did not know the other people effected too, and over time 1999 & on people told very few others..out of FEAR! One lady at church would not sell and her home was burned..enough, I believe I made my point, take this article very serious as it already began 12 years ago and if gets too big could create the atmosphere where lots of bad senario's could play out. THis would be mild. In cases like my description...not for use over in the other countries...for here. This is my opinion..I forgot or put in back of mind till read the article and now I know what I did not understand hearing about then!
