Live Updates: Trump agrees to 'suspend bombing' on Iran in exchange for reopening of Strait of Hormuz

US President Donald Trump announced early on Wednesday a “double-sided ceasefire” between the US and Iran in a post on Truth Social, citing a two-week period for the agreement to be finalized.

The announcement came following an earlier Pakistani proposal to request that Trump add a two-week extension to a deadline he imposed on Iran to reopen the Strait of Hormuz.

Trump stated that the decision to suspect US attacks on Iran was made after conversations with Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Asim Munir.

The ceasefire is subject to Iran agreeing to the “complete, immediate, and safe opening of the Strait of Hormuz,” Trump added.


UN envoy plans to visit Iran as part of peace effort

A personal envoy of UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres plans to visit Iran as part of his efforts to encourage an end to the Iran war, but his travel plans will depend on security and logistics, a UN source said.

Jean Arnault, a veteran UN diplomat whom Guterres named as his envoy on the conflict last month, headed to the Middle East on Monday.

The UN has not provided details of his itinerary.
