Iron And Clay And The EU

Antichrist’s Power Base in Flux
Terry James

With most all other prophetic signals in view for the coming Tribulation (Daniel’ seventieth week), it’s more than intriguing that one stage-setting ingredient at the center of that horrendous era seems to be out of sync with developments. Or perhaps the incongruity represents the final element about to be entered into the construction of Antichrist’s power base.

The European Union is in what looks to be a weakening—not an increasingly dominant—state of affairs. The following think piece offers some information about the troubles within this developing power base for the Antichrist regime during the Tribulation:

The European Union (“EU”) is facing criticism and calls for reform or abolition, with Elon Musk recently calling for its abolition and the Trump administration’s national security strategy labeling it a failed project.

There are three distinct camps of commentators on the EU’s future: Europhiles who support the EU, Eurosceptics/Reformists who want to reform it, and EU abolitionists who want to dissolve it.

The reformist camp is strikingly large and contains most of the officially tolerated nationalist movements in the EU.  In the following, J.K. argues for reform. But this reform would be so significant that it would create something new: it would involve a wholesale replacement of the EU and its sister institutions.…

Western political discourse is entering a time of re-evaluation of the core concepts and institutions that have ruled us since the 1950s. The European Union is not above this kind of re-evaluation and the ideological battles over its nature and future are not going to abate any time soon. (“EU Needs Massive Reform: There needs to be a wholesale replacement of the EU and its organisations,” by Rhoda Wilson, The Expose, December 23, 2025)

The troubles range from internal power scuffles to cultural and ideological differences that are so profound as to make future cohesion very unlikely at best, and to cause dissolution of the EU as presently constituted at worst.

At the center of the tumult within the EU seems to be the US and the most, shall I say, interesting president of history. Pressures from the Trump administration seem to be at the heart of movement that is about to force reforms. We will simply have to continue to watch and see with regard to prophetic outcome.

History has proved to the satisfaction of most Bible prophecy scholars that the first four world kingdoms described in Nebuchadnezzar’s dream have come and gone. The Babylonian kingdom was the first. The Medes and Persians comprised the second world empire. The Greek Empire under Alexander the Great was the third. The Roman Empire, which split in two, with capitals in Rome and Constantinople (now Istanbul, Turkey), was the fourth great world kingdom.

One is left to come upon the scene—the final world governmental system represented in Nebuchadnezzar’s dream as the feet and toes made of iron mixed with clay. This kingdom, we believe, is far along in the process of coming together today in the form of the European Union

The fifth world empire symbolized in the statue is prophesied to be an extension of the fourth kingdom. That is exactly what the EU is—an extension of the ancient Roman Empire. It is, we are convinced, the feet and toes of the man-image, the reviving of the unity that was once Europe in all its power and glory. Yet, despite the tremendous power the final form of the Roman Empire will have, the clay mixed with iron seems to indicate it will have significant weaknesses.

The European Union is, like America, presently at the forefront of calling for Israel and the Palestinians to come to the peace table. It will be just such a peace negotiation, according to Daniel 9:26–27, out of which will come the “covenant made with death and hell” (Isaiah 28:15, 18). Antichrist, “the prince that shall come,” will personally guarantee that covenant. But the prophetic Word says that “when they shall say peace and safety, then, sudden destruction cometh upon them as travail upon a woman with child, and they shall not escape” (1 Thessalonians 5:3).

The Islamic world’s hatred for the Jews and Israel is satanic at its core. No amount of negotiating for peace ever will change that. Israel’s neighbors want the Jewish state forever done away with—expunged from what they consider their land. The Arab leaders, all dictators to one degree or another, must keep the region in foment against Israel to assure that their dictatorships stay in power. The “covenant made with death and hell,” according to Isaiah the prophet, must somehow deal with this great hatred to achieve the false peace of that satanically produced covenant.

The European Union, Antichrist’s future base of authority, is rapidly growing toward its full power that will produce a leader of unprecedented dominance who will bring about that false peace.

The Bible states that seven out of ten “kings” will back a world leader who will forcibly rip power from the other three and give it to himself. With all other prophetic indicators seemingly in full view upon the immediate geopolitical horizon, the EU in turmoil seems to be another profound ingredient that’s been added to the fascinating mix.

Certainly, the current flux affecting the EU represents weakness that looks difficult to overcome.

However, the man of sin will have satanically imbued powers. This will likely include the ability to overcome problems such as those currently observed within his future power base. Meantime, the devil will be in the details of preparing his son of perdition’s platform of tyranny.

So, during the New Year, unless the Rapture preempts our ability to watch from this earthly platform of observation, we will likely see fascinating changes. That is, there will almost certainly be dramatic changes in the European Union model in setting the stage for construction of the world power structure represented in Daniel’s interpretation of King Nebuchadnezzar’s dream (read Daniel chapter 2).
