Attacks On Russian Airfields And What the US Should Do Next

Ukraine’s Drone Attacks On Russian Airfields And What the US Should Do Next

What Ukraine and Global Media Say Happened? Ukraine used drones launched from cargo trucks inside Russia to strike five airbases, destroying over 40 Russian bombers. The attack came just two days ahead of scheduled peace talks in Istanbul.

Zelensky officially took responsibility for the strikes on Russia's strategic aviation on behalf of Kiev: "I thank the Security Service, personally General Malysh, and also everyone who was involved in the operation. We prepared the operation for more than a year and a half.”

In addition to the drone attack, Ukraine also blew up two railroad bridges which caused A civilian passenger train to derail in the Bryansk region. At least 10 civilians were reported dead and over 100 seriously injured. The youngest victim was only 5 months old. His mother also died. A freight train also crashed in the Kursk region, injuring 3 train crew members.

Assessment of the Strikes: First reports are almost always inaccurate, incomplete, or both. With this caveat, here’s what we know as of 2 June 2025.

The stated objective of what the Ukrainians refer to as “Operation Spider Web” was to “Neutralize Russians strategic bombers used in missile attacks against Ukraine.

The Ukrainian attack targeted five Russian Air bases, yet the attacks were only successful at two the bases, Belaya and Olenya.  The other three bases, despite claims to the contrary, did not suffer damage.

With regards to number of aircraft destroyed, Ukraine and their paid propagandists all echoed the exact same figures: 40 Russian bombers destroyed, which allegedly makes up 34% of Russian strategic aviation aircraft.

However, having analyzed all the videos posted after the attack by both Ukraine and Russia, the actual number is 5 Tu-95 strategic bombers destroyed. The Russian Armed Forces have 58 Tu-95 aircraft in service. Thus, the 5 aircraft destroyed represents less than 10% of the Tu-95 fleet.

Did the operation accomplish its purpose? The answer is self-evident, “Operation Spider Web”failed to reduce Russia's offensive capacity to launch missile strikes against Ukraine.

The propaganda value of the operation however, was maximized.

While the Tu-95 strategic bombers can carry the highest payload of missiles, the Russian military has hundreds of other planes, ground vehicles, and ships which can fire the exact same missiles. Critically, the extended range of modern cruise missiles has rendered most long-range bomber fleets obsolete. With regards to damaging Russians Nuclear Triad, the main threat of nuclear deterrence has almost nothing to do with planes because ICBM’s are too big to fit in a plane, nor do they need to as they are designed with rocket engines and guidance systems to fly on their own.

Although Operation Spider Web provides Ukraine some additional propaganda value, it provides no favorable impact for Ukrain’s situation on the battlefield, which has never been more dire.

On the front lines, the Russian military’s creation of a buffer zone in Sumy is stretching the already overstretched Ukrainian forces to the point where major breakthroughs could happen at anytime in Toretsk and Petrovsk Directions.

Over the last three months the Russian Armed Forces have captured 101 towns and settlements. In May alone, Russia captured over 580 sq km of territory which resulted in over 23,000 Ukrainian soldiers KIA.

What should the US do?  TheUS State Department has confirmed that, “Ukraine did not notify the Trump Administration of the attack in advance.” What is less clear is whether the US government deep state administrators who operate inside Ukraine and from their Headquarters in Wiesbaden Germany, provided intelligence or advice for the attack.

We know for a fact that many of these US government employees and contractors are incentivized to continue supporting the war and continue fighting until the last Ukrainian. Which begs the question, what should President Trump do?  He should do the right thing and use common sense to tell the world that by conducting this operation, Ukraine and its Globalist proxies went rogue and as a result, the US can no longer support them with people or resources.

Unless a miracle breakthrough happens in Istanbul the war is about to escalate exponentially.

As such, Operation Spider Web provides a historic line in the sand. President Trump either pulls all US personnel out of Ukraine as quickly as possible, or from this date forward, the Biden administrations Ukraine war will become the Trump administrations war.
