AI-Powered Robocop Unveiled At Festival

Thailand has unveiled its first AI-powered police robot.

The Royal Thai Police (RTP) shared images of what’s being called the world’s first true Robocop.

Called “AI police cyborg 1.0,” the Robocop is equipped with facial recognition technology and 360-degree AI cameras.

According to The Straits Times, police deployed ‘Cyborg 1.0’ in Nakhon Pathom province during the Songkran festival.

Police Colonel Nakhonpathom Plod Phai, which translates to “Nakhon Pathom is safe”, has been deployed at the Songkran venue on Tonson Road in Muang district to enhance public safety, the RTP said in a Facebook post on April 16.

The robot, dubbed “AI police cyborg 1.0”, is a Robocop-style robot officer equipped with smart 360-degree AI cameras. It is jointly developed by the Provincial Police Region 7, Nakhon Pathom Provincial Police, and Nakhon Pathom Municipality.

This AI police cyborg integrates live footage from CCTV cameras in and around the event area, as well as from drone surveillance, and processes them using AI technology built into the cyborg’s system.

The cyborg’s own cameras are enhanced with video analytics capabilities and linked directly to the province’s Command and Control Centre to efficiently manage public safety during public events.

Using facial recognition technology, the cyborg is able to identify and notify officers if wanted or high-risk individuals are detected. Individuals can be searched and identified through their facial features, clothing, body type, and gender.

Thailand just introduced its first AI-powered robot cop, “AI Police Cyborg 1.0,” during the Songkran festival in Nakhon Pathom. Equipped with 360-degree cameras, facial recognition, and weapon detection, this futuristic officer can identify suspects, monitor threats, and help keep crowds safe in real time by sending data directly to a central command center.

Per The Sun:

One identified suspect can be closely tracked and any potentially dangerous incidents can be detected.

Passersby can also be searched and identified through their facial features, clothing, body type, and gender.

The cyborg is also able to detect weapons, including knives and wooden sticks.

This comes after an army of spherical robo-cops were spotted rolling around cities across China last year.

Chinese robotics company Logon Technology unveiled the RT-G autonomous spherical robot in what it described as a “technological breakthrough”.
