As of just three months ago, the Lebanese Shi’a group Hezbollah seemed to the world a formidable threat to Israel, for the terror group was known to have 150,000 missiles and rockets in its Iran-supplied arsenal. It had hidden weapons in residences all over southern Lebanon and Beirut. But since mid-September, when the IDF unleashed its campaign in those Hezbollah strongholds in southern Beirut and southern Lebanon, the IDF has managed to accomplish a great deal in whittling down that arsenal.
The full extent of the damage done to Hezbollah’s weapons in Lebanon has not been released by the IDF, but it has released information on the number of short and long-range rockets, mortars, anti-tank missiles, anti-aircraft missiles, explosives, guns, and electronic equipment of every type, that it has seized or destroyed on the ground, as well as data on the Hezbollah commanders killed, including the group’s leader Hassan Nasrallah, his presumed successor Hashem Safieddine, and the commander, deputy commander, and about 70% of the other commanders of the elite Radwan Forces. Seven hundred members of that elite unit have been killed, and 1,300 wounded. The IDF has so far killed a total of 3,851 Hezbollah fighters, and wounded another 9,000.
The IDF has just released a list of military hardware it has managed to find and seize in just 30 villages in southern Lebanon, as described here: “War in Lebanon saw IDF seize 85,000 Hezbollah items from over 30 villages,” by Yonah Jeremy Bob, Jerusalem Post, December 25, 2024:
The IDF seized 85,170 Hezbollah military items from over 30 villages in southern Lebanon throughout the invasion, the army said on Wednesday.
Many of these items were presented on exhibit to The Jerusalem Post and other reporters on Tuesday at a base in the North.
Among these items are 2,250 larger rockets, 6,840 smaller anti-tank missiles, and rockets, of which 340 are more advanced Kornet missiles.
There are also 60 anti-aircraft missiles and 20 vehicles, often with the capability of firing a dozen or multiple dozens of rockets at a time.
The IDF also seized 9,000 improvised explosives, 5,560 guns, and around 60,800 electronic items, equipment, and documents….
Hezbollah, reeling from its staggering losses of men and weapons in just the last three months, has been compelled to accept a ceasefire that requires it to pull its forces out of southern Lebanon and keep them north of the Litani River. If you want to know why it had to plead for a ceasefire, just look at the amazing losses of its weaponry, both those destroyed and those seized, set out in detail above.
