Days after the US gave Kiev the "green light" to use US weapons for strikes on Russian soil, Ukrainian HIMARS appear to have targeted Russian army positions in Belgorod with ATACMS missiles.

In images released by Russian Telegram accounts, a Russian S-300/400 air defense system appears to be engulfed in flames following a Ukrainian attack.

According to The Kyiv Post, Russian officials confirmed the attacks over the weekend and major Russian media outlets identified the weapons used as M42 missiles fired from the M270 and HIMARS systems.

The Russian side reports that all missiles fired from Ukraine were successfully shot down, while claiming they were aimed at civilian areas.

Ukrainian and Russian Telegram accounts have reported destruction of ammunition depots and other heavy weaponry of the Russian military stationed near the border with Ukraine, but there has been no confirmation from either side.

On May 31, US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken announced that President Joe Biden had officially given the "green light" to Ukraine to use US weapons against Russian territory. However, the authorization excludes the launch of ATACMS and other long-range weapons, while it concerns only Russian military targets attacking areas near the Russian-Ukrainian border, such as Kharkiv.
