Iran's state broadcaster and the Iranian Guard's (IRGC) Fars news agency are calling on Iranian citizens to sign up to be sent to war against Israel.
Iran has opened recruitment offices for volunteers who will strengthen the "Axis of Resistance" in the war against Israel. Earlier today, an Israeli official revealed that Iran is trying to move strategic weapons to or through Syria to open a second war front.
This development comes after the double warning and ultimatum sent by Iran to Israel according to two diplomatic sources.
Iran's state broadcaster is urging Iranian citizens to sign up and express their preparedness for being enlisted and sent to the war against Israel. A similar campaign had been launched by the IRGC's Fars News Agency.
Iran sent a message to Israel on Saturday stressing that it does not want a further escalation in the Hamas-Israel war, but that it would have to intervene if the Israeli operation in Gaza continues, two diplomatic sources with knowledge of the situation told Axios.
Iran's message, which was sent to Israel through the UN, comes as the Biden administration tries to prevent Iran and Hezbollah from joining the war. This week, the US sent an aircraft carrier group and fighter jets to the region.
Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian met with UN Middle East envoy Tor Wensland on Saturday in Beirut, the two diplomatic sources said.
Wennesland urged Hossein Amir-Abdollahian to help prevent the conflict in Gaza and Israel from spilling over into the wider Middle East region.
The Iranian foreign minister responded that Iran does not want the conflict to turn into a regional war and wants to try to help free civilians held hostage by Hamas in Gaza.
But Amir-Abdollahian emphasized that Iran has its red lines. He said that if the Israeli military operation continued – and especially if Israel followed through on its promise of a ground attack on Gaza – Iran would have to respond, according to the sources.
