Israel launched strikes overnight on Hezbollah “terrorist” targets in Lebanon, the Israeli army says in a statement.

“The Israeli army is striking military targets of the terrorist organisation Hezbollah on Lebanese territory,” it says.

Since the start of the war triggered by the unprecedented attack by Hamas on Israel on October 7, clashes on the Israel-Lebanon border have left around 10 people dead on the Lebanese side, mostly gunmen but also a Reuters journalist and two civilians.

On the Israeli side, at least two people have been killed.

The international community fears an escalation of the conflict between the Iran-backed Hezbollah and the Israeli army.

Israel began evacuating thousands of residents in 28 locations in the north of the country after these border clashes.

Iran FM: Expect ‘preemptive’ action by resistance against Israel in ‘coming hours’

Iran Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian says, “We can expect a preemptive action by the resistance front in the coming hours.”

“Leaders of the resistance will not allow the Zionist regime to take any action in Gaza. … All options are open and we cannot be indifferent to the war crimes committed against the people of Gaza,” Amirabdollahian tells state TV, according to Reuters.

“The resistance front is capable of waging a long-term war with the enemy,” he says — not elaborating on the kind of action Israel should expect.

In their phone call earlier this evening — their first since the outbreak of the Gaza war — Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu told Russian President Vladimir Putin that Israel “will not stop until it destroys the military and governmental capabilities of Hamas,” the premier’s office says.

Netanyahu also “made it clear that Israel was attacked by vile and cruel murderers and has gone to war determined and united,” his office adds.
