“The supply of military products by the US and its allies not only entails protracted
bloodshed and new casualties, but also increases the danger of a direct military clash
between Russia and Western countries,” Russia’s Ambassador to the US Anatoly Antonov
declared on the Telegram messaging app on October 5, 2022.
“We perceive this as an immediate threat to the strategic interests of our country,”
Antonov stated, following US President Joe Biden’s promise to send a new $625-million
military aid package to Ukraine on October 4.
The US package is composed of High Mobility Artillery Rocket System (HIMARS)
launchers. These systems have figured prominently in Ukraine’s recent counter-offensive
campaign against Russian forces, which has caused strategic withdrawals in areas such as
Kharkov.
This latest aid package is the first since Russia incorporated the four Ukrainian territories
of Donetsk, Kherson, Luhansk, and Zaporizhzhia via controversial referendums
Antonov cautioned the US government to halt its “provocative actions” that could generate
“serious consequences.” He believes that further military aid could lead to an all-out war
between the US and Russia.
