Meanwhile, New Mexico makes bad numbers disappear the easy way, by ending reporting
Last year, Portugal was the boss of bosses when it came to mRNA vaccines.
Ask everyone’s favorite newspaper of record, The New York Times:
Portugal has had multiple Covid waves since that Times article, and the new one is the biggest yet. The national health authorities are blaming it on yet another Omicron variant, BA.5, coming soon to a highly mRNA jabbed state or country near you.
Also worth noting is the fact that even after Portugal’s winter wave subsided, infections remained at a level higher than all but one previous peak; highly mRNA vaccinated countries do not seem to get back to a zero-infection baseline, ever.
Yes, despite the No-Death mRNA Guarantee (TM), people in Portugal are in fact dying of Covid. In fact, about 30 are now dying every day, equivalent to almost 1,000 Americans. The toll is likely to rise further, given how quickly infections have taken off.
Vaccine fanatics hate these trends. They cannot stop them, so they’re doing the next best thing, hiding the numbers.
As the Albuquerque Journal reported Saturday:
COVID-19 cases in New Mexico have ticked up 121% in about a month and plenty of those are breakthrough cases, according to weekly epidemiology reports.
But we don’t know how many.
About a month ago the state Department of Health quietly removed from its weekly epidemiology reports data that compared the most recent four weeks of cases, hospitalizations and deaths among unvaccinated, vaccinated and vaccinated and boosted people. The removal of the breakthrough case data came as a greater share of people who were getting sick with COVID-19 had been vaccinated.
The usual public health bureaucrats had the usual explanation for deleting the data: the numbers don’t look good , thus the proles cannot be allowed to see them. As New Mexico’s state epidemiologist, Dr. Christine Ross, told the Journal:
You’re going to have to trust that our goal is to present information that makes sense… If you stick on this one methodology, which is using – it’s a very simple type of analysis using observational data – I think you’re kind of missing the boat.
Yes, why offer simple and clear numbers when you can make up complicated ones? Strangely, when the data last year showed the shots were working as promised, New Mexico had no problem putting them out.
Ross also told the Journal that every other state and local health department that had been breaking out Covid data by vaccine status has stopped doing so.
Fortunately, it turns out that Ross was… not quite telling the truth. States like New Mexico and Vermont (both deeply blue and with high vaccination levels, shocker) have cut back on the data they’re reporting. Others have not.
The most recent report from Oklahoma, for example, shows that about 80 percent of the people hospitalized for Covid – 95 out of 122 people – were partly or fully vaccinated.
