Pope says two-state solution is ‘only solution’ to Israeli-Palestinian conflict

Pope says two-state solution is ‘only solution’ to Israeli-Palestinian conflict
TOI

Pope Leo XIV doubled down earlier today on the Holy See’s insistence on a two-state solution to resolve the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, saying in his first airborne news conference that it was the “only solution” that could guarantee justice for both sides.

“We all know that at this time Israel still does not accept that solution, but we see it as the only solution,” he said, as he flew from Istanbul to Beirut for the second and final leg of his maiden voyage as pope.

“We are also friends with Israel and we are seeking to be a mediating voice between the two parties that might help them close in on a solution with justice for everyone,” added the pope, speaking in Italian.

Though Leo has been fielding journalists’ questions at informal gatherings at his country house, the brief encounter marked his first news conference as pope and followed the tradition of his predecessors of using his trips to engage with the media.

But it was limited to two questions from Turkish journalists.

The American pope was asked by a Turkish journalist about his private talks with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and whether they discussed the wars in Gaza and Ukraine.

Leo confirmed they had, and said that Turkey had an “important role to play” in both conflicts, noting that Erdogan’s government had already helped facilitate low-level negotiations between Russia and Ukraine to end the war.

US rehearsing airstrikes against Venezuela

US rehearsing airstrikes against Venezuela – WSJ
RT

The US has been rehearsing airstrikes it plans to launch in Venezuela in recent weeks, the Wall Street Journal (WSJ) reported on Saturday, citing a defense official and flight-tracking data.

President Donald Trump has accused the Venezuelan government of operating “narcoterrorist” cartels and on Saturday announced that the country’s airspace would be closed to “all airlines, pilots, drug dealers, and human traffickers.”

The threat came amid a buildup of US naval forces in the Caribbean Sea, where, under Trump’s orders, more than 20 alleged drug-smuggling vessels have been struck since September.

According to the WSJ, Trump told Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro during last week’s secret phone call that he would consider ousting him unless he stepped down.

While neither side has confirmed that the conversation took place, Trump has previously denied seeking to topple Maduro by force. In August, the US increased the bounty for Maduro’s arrest to $50 million.

On Saturday, the Venezuelan Foreign Ministry rejected the threat against its aircraft as “colonialist” aggression, illegal under international law. Maduro has placed the army on high alert and held several drills, vowing to repel any invasion.

The Venezuelan government has denied allegations of aiding cartels and argued that Trump is using a crackdown on drug trafficking as a pretext for regime change.

Venezuela in the Crosshairs:

Venezuela in the Crosshairs: Trump Closes Country’s Airspace ‘In Its Entirety,’ Strikes on Land Will Be Starting ‘Very Soon’

President Trump warned Saturday morning that all airspace above and surrounding Venezuela should be considered closed. The announcement was seen by many as a warning shot across Venezuelan dictator Nicolas Maduro’s bow that his country could soon be struck by the US in its ongoing battle against deadly imported drugs and an alleged reimplementation of the Monroe Doctrine.

“To all Airlines, Pilots, Drug Dealers, and Human Traffickers, please consider THE AIRSPACE ABOVE AND SURROUNDING VENEZUELA TO BE CLOSED IN ITS ENTIRETY,” Trump wrote on Truth Social. “Thank you for your attention to this matter!”
The FAA has urged pilots to “exercise caution” near Venezuelan
airspace, citing a “worsening security situation and heightened military activity.”

The announcement follows weeks of military buildup in Latin American waters. The USS Gerald R. Ford, the world’s largest aircraft carrier, now patrols the region alongside F-35 fighter jets, spy aircraft, and warships. Now, air, land, and sea could be in play as the possibility of conflict looms.

From the Daily Mail:

The new wave of deployments began in August with the arrival of the Iwo Jima Amphibious Ready Group. In October, the US announced that the 1106ft USS Gerald R Ford, the largest aircraft carrier in the world, would also join the mission.

The carrier reached Caribbean waters on November 11 with more than four thousand sailors, fighter jets, and support vessels, including the USS Thomas Hudner, USS Rampage, and USS Normandy.

The Ford brings with it F-35C stealth fighters, considered the world’s most advanced fighter to operate from a carrier deck.

Additionally, there are 10 U.S. Marine Corps F-35s stationed in Puerto Rico, along with AV-8 Harrier jump jets and AH-1 attack helicopters.

Some of the warships come equipped with extremely powerful surveillance radars capable of detecting surface and aerial targets. They also have long-range missiles that can strike deep into Venezuela.

Roughly two thousand US troops were already in the region before the reinforcements arrived.

“Troops have been amassing in Puerto Rico, some 500 miles from the South American country, with Gen. Dan Caine, Trump’s military adviser, visiting the area on Monday,” the Daily Mail reports.

An estimated total of 21 US strikes against drug boats have occurred in the Caribbean under “Operation Southern Spear,” with a death toll of 83 people, according to the Daily Wire.

The President told service members on Thanksgiving that strikes on land will be starting “very soon.”

“In recent weeks, you’ve been working to deter Venezuelan drug traffickers, of which there are many. Of course, there aren’t too many coming in by sea anymore,” Trump noted.

“You probably noticed that people aren’t wanting to be delivering by sea, and we’ll be starting to stop them by land also,” the President added. “The land is easier, but that’s going to start very soon.”

“We warn them: Stop sending poison to our country,” Trump said.

Trump has branded Maduro as a terrorist and the leader of the Cartel de Los Soles. He also has a bounty on his head.

The cartel has been designated as a foreign terrorist organization by the State Department, according to a notice published on November 16 in the Federal Register.

It “is a decentralized network of government and military officials in Venezuela who engage in drug trafficking,” according to Breitbart.

While We Wait:

Come, Jesus, Come

Daymond Duck

The Praise and Worship Band at the church I attend recently sang “Come, Jesus, Come.”

Here are the words to the Chorus:

Come, Jesus, come
We’ve been waiting so long
For the day You return
To heal every hurt and right every wrong
We need You right now
Come and turn this around
Deep down I know this world isn’t home
Come, Jesus, come

Here are the words to the verses:

Sometimes I fall to my knees and pray
Come, Jesus, come
Let today be the day
Sometimes I feel like I’m gonna break
But I’m holding on
To a hope that won’t fade

There’ll be no war
And there’ll be no chains
When Jesus comes
Let today be the day
He’ll come for the weak
And the strong just the same
And all will believe in the power of His name

One day He’ll come
And we’ll stand face to face
Come and lay it all down
‘Cause it might be today
The time is right now
There’s no need to wait
Your past will be washed by rivers of grace

This song rings a bell with some Christians.

Some are tired of waiting for Jesus to remove (Rapture) His Church.

Some are hurting, struggling to hang on, longing for things to get better, and praying that the Rapture will happen soon.

They know that multitudes will get saved after the Rapture, and will put an end to war at His Second Coming.

They don’t want to wait any longer.

Anyway, many of the most highly acclaimed Bible prophecy teachers don’t think these Christians will have to wait much longer.

And for whatever it is worth, on Nov. 22, 2025, former Israeli Sephardic Chief Rabbi Shlomo Moshe Amar said:

  • Moshiach (the Messiah) is about to come.
  • It’s not a question or a matter of doubt.
  • This is not politics or policy, but actual redemption.
  • We are at the height of the birth pangs of Moshiach, and it is very near.
  • It’s as clear as day.

One, concerning a digital ID that many prophecy teachers believe will lead to the control of people and the tracking of all buying and selling: I recently saw a report that said. “Currently, there are 137 countries on board to move to a digital currency.”

It has already been reported that people in the UK will need a digital ID to work in the near future.

Understand that the Mark of the Beast is something that will go into force at the middle of the Tribulation Period.

Two, concerning Islam: on Nov. 19, 2025, Congressman Keith Self of Texas delivered a 4 min. and 48 sec. speech on the House Floor.

I believe every word is true, and very few of our leaders are speaking out.

I STRONGLY urge every reader to listen to it.

Here is a link to what this member of the U.S. Congress said.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0KlN0WWEN4o

Three, concerning an increase in the frequency and intensity of natural disasters at the end of the age: on Nov. 20, 2025, 8-9 inches of rain (some areas got 10-12 inches) fell in six hours in Menard County, Texas.

(More: The Dallas-Fort Worth Airport recorded 3.95 inches in one day, the most ever in one day on record in that area.)

(More: On Nov. 23, 2025, a long-dormant volcano in Ethiopia erupted for the first time in thousands of years.)

Four, concerning deceit and corruption in the United Nothing (UN):

  • Israeli intelligence briefings show that UNRWA teachers, social workers, and administrative employees aided Hamas by storing weapons, helping move hostages, and assisting in logistical preparations for the attack, while UNRWA facilities – including schools and clinics – were used as cover for tunnel shafts, command centers, and weapons depots.
  • The IDF has also released documents and interrogations indicating that several UNRWA employees joined Hamas-led assault teams on October 7th or served as lookouts.

On Nov. 19, 2025, the Israeli Knesset voted 28-8 to back the first reading of legislation aimed at closing down the UNRWA in Israel because of its ties to terrorism.

If the bill passes the required number of readings, it will allow Israel to cut off the water and electricity to the two UNRWA buildings in Israel and to confiscate the land on which the buildings are located.

(My opinion: I have long believed that the U.S. should get the UN out of New York City. Why does the U.S. support the existence of an organization that allowed the capture, rape, killing, and torture of men, women, and children hostages?)

Five, concerning Iran (and possibly the Gog of Magog War): on Nov. 25, 2025, an article posted by Prophecy News Watch (PNW) says:

  • The threat Iran now poses is growing significantly.
  • Iran’s Foreign Min. said, “Iran’s missile power today far surpasses that of the 12‑Day War.”
  • Iran’s Defense Min. said, “Iran’s defense production has improved both in quantity and quality compared to before the 12-day Israeli-imposed war in June,” and he added that new missiles are now rolling off production lines faster than ever.”
  • What if Iran should load just one of these missiles with a nuclear warhead?
  • The window to constrain Iran’s capabilities may be rapidly closing.

Six, concerning Iran’s threats to Israel and God’s protection of Israel at the end of the age: on Nov. 20, 2025, Israel and the U.S. agreed to speed up the production of David’s Sling, Iron Dome, and new laser defense systems to be ready for the next attack.

Iran is threatening to fire 2,000 missiles and drones at Israel at the same time, and Israel and the U.S. are preparing to shoot them down.

Seven, in an excellent article that is too long for me to adequately cover in this post, on Nov. 21, 2025, White House Correspondent and author William Koenig wrote:

  • In a span of five days, President Donald Trump executed a series of actions that collectively elevate the United Nations, empower Islamic leaders across sectarian lines, sideline Israel, and further integrate the U.S. into an international system with troubling prophetic implications.
  • This is a week that many evangelical and biblically-aligned observers would say would make the Anti-Christ proud — not because Trump is the Anti-Christ, but because the sequence of events aligns with patterns of global consolidation and international control over Israel’s future.
  • Each action, taken alone, could be brushed aside as political maneuvering. Together, they form a clear trajectory.

Koenig was referring to:

  • Trump’s Gaza Stabilization Plan that empowers the UN (corrupt United Nothing) in its efforts to divide and control the Promised Land of Israel.
  • Trump’s meeting with (and lavish praise of) Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, who is insisting on the division of Israel.
  • Trump’s agreement to sell F-35 jets to Saudi Arabia and the Saudis’ investment of hundreds of billions of dollars (perhaps a trillion) in the U.S.
  • Trump’s meeting with (and lavish praise for) Iran supporter Zoran Mamdani, Mayor-Elect of New York City.

(My opinion: I agree with Koenig: the events at the White House this week appear to be a clear trajectory toward the rise of the Antichrist.)

Zelensky faces political peril as corruption scandal consumes top aide

Zelensky faces political peril as corruption scandal consumes top aide
Siobhán O'Grady, Kostiantyn Khudov

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky will face a new round of U.S. pressure next week to reach a deal to end Russia’s war as a corruption scandal engulfs his inner circle, opposition leaders call for a total government overhaul and Moscow continues to relentlessly bombard his country — setting the stage for one of the wartime leader’s most politically perilous moments yet.

The abrupt resignation Friday of Zelensky’s chief of staff, Andriy Yermak, who was also serving as lead negotiator with the United States, came just hours after his home was searched by anti-corruption authorities.

Soon after, Russia unleashed hundreds of drones and missiles on Ukraine, killing two people in Kyiv and wounding dozens of others. By morning, more than a half-million residents of the capital were left without power.

Meanwhile, Washington remains set on finalizing a controversial deal to end the war, with President Donald Trump’s special envoy, Steve Witkoff, expected in Moscow next week and the revised Ukrainian delegation already en route to the U.S. for more talks.

Rustem Umerov, who heads Ukraine’s National Security and Defense Council, was tapped to replace Yermak as lead negotiator — a move that is facing domestic criticism as suspicions swirl that he too may be implicated in the widening corruption scandal.

As that team hammers through key details of a peace plan, opposition lawmakers are also calling for Zelensky to unify the country by replacing key ministers and backing a new coalition in parliament. The justice and energy ministers already resigned this month after they were accused of ties to the corruption scandal. Those positions have proven difficult to fill, as candidates fear joining the government at an uncertain moment could risk their reputations nearly four years into the full-scale war

Zelensky will have to S this multitude of crises as he also seeks a candidate to replace his most loyal aide, who was widely criticized for consolidating power in the presidential office and disrupting the work of career diplomats but for years maintained Zelensky’s trust for the most sensitive wartime tasks.

“Yermak’s resignation for Zelensky is almost like cutting off his right arm,” said Ukrainian political scientist Volodymyr Fesenko. “It’s extremely painful — physically and psychologically. A psychological vacuum will appear around Zelensky. Yermak was always next to him.”

Discipled By The Tech Industry

Little By Little, Mankind Is Being Discipled By The Tech Industry

When mankind remains a passive consumer of whatever the algorithm decides to put before it, man is no longer the agent of choice, leading to a scenario whereby our mind is being conditioned to unquestionably accept the suggestion that an algorithm puts before us on any given day.

The challenge that mankind will face, both now and in the future, is the desire for those in the technology sector to turn every non-tech-based activity into a tech-based activity. After all, if technocrats and powerbrokers are able to connect (and keep mankind connected) to emerging technologies, not only does that allow for greater behavioural modification, but it also allows the entrenchment of the use of algorithms as people become wholly reliant on the service being provided.

Little by little, mankind is being discipled by the tech industry in very particular ways—by curating the news we see, suggesting the items we should purchase and the entertainment we enjoy.  However, this is not only affecting mankind’s social pursuits but also having a deep impact on our spiritual lives.

As believers, we must warn against the practice of “algorithmic spirituality”. You see, algorithms do not take into account biblical truth when suggesting information to users. The algorithm will identify a common point of interest and suggest the more popular content without an examination of the validity or substance of the information.  Therefore, people who are prone to accept what they see without being good Bereans will allow their spiritual life to be shaped more by algorithm than the Holy Spirit.

Furthermore, there are enough legitimate studies now to confirm that many young adult Christians are being led to change their theological beliefs due to pressure from other users and influencers on social media. Consequently, they are moving away from biblical truth and adopting subjectivity and relativism.

If this problem continues unchecked, the number of apostates will continue to rise, leaving a small minority willing to stand on the authority of Scripture. The answer? The Apostle Paul’s words still ring true today: “Test all things; hold fast what is good” (1 Thessalonians 5:21).

Washington secures strategic Caribbean foothold

Washington secures strategic Caribbean foothold as Dominican Republic allows U.S. forces LIMITED access

  • The Dominican Republic has agreed to allow U.S. forces restricted access for refueling and logistical operations, including KC-135 tanker aircraft for maritime patrols and C-130 Hercules cargo planes for disaster relief and reconnaissance.
  • Dominican President Luis Abinader emphasized the temporary nature of the deal, citing a tenfold increase in drug seizures due to U.S. collaboration. However, critics suspect broader geopolitical motives, particularly against Venezuela.
  • The agreement follows U.S. Joint Chiefs Chairman Gen. Dan Caine's meetings in Trinidad and Tobago, raising concerns about escalating pressure on Venezuela. Trinidad's PM denied discussing Venezuela-based operations, but analysts note Trump's hardline stance against Caracas.
  • Past U.S. military interventions in Latin America (e.g., Panama 1989) began similarly as "security partnerships," fueling regional distrust. Critics warn this agreement could lead to deeper militarization rather than genuine sovereignty.
  • While the Dominican government highlights benefits like improved disaster response, lack of public scrutiny and pending U.S. radar requests (e.g., Grenada) raise transparency concerns. The deal may set a precedent for expanded U.S. military presence in the Caribbean.

In a move signaling deepening U.S. military involvement in the Caribbean, Dominican Republic President Luis Abinader announced a limited agreement granting American forces access to restricted areas for refueling and logistical operations.

The pact was unveiled on Wednesday, Nov. 26, alongside U.S. Secretary of War Pete Hegseth at San Isidro Air Base. It marks the first public accord with a regional ally as Washington intensifies its campaign against drug trafficking – a campaign critics warn may mask broader geopolitical ambitions targeting Venezuela. The technically narrow but strategically significant agreement permits U.S. KC-135 tanker aircraft to support maritime patrols and refuel partner nations' planes, while C-130 Hercules cargo planes will assist in disaster relief and reconnaissance.

Abinader emphasized the arrangement's temporary nature, framing it as essential to counter narcotics networks that have exploited the island nation for decades. "No country can confront this threat alone," he declared, citing a tenfold increase in drug seizures over five years through U.S. collaboration.

Yet the deal's timing raises pointed questions. Hegseth's visit followed Joint Chiefs Chairman Gen. Dan Caine's meetings in Trinidad and Tobago – another nation near Venezuela – with Trinidadian Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar. While she previously endorsed violent U.S. strikes against drug traffickers, Persad-Bissessar denied discussing Venezuela as a base for operations. Regional analysts, however, note the Trump administration's unrelenting pressure on Caracas – including unconfirmed reports of troop deployment considerations.

Hegseth, praising the Dominican Republic's "leadership," insisted the mission targets transnational crime, not sovereignty. "We know where [traffickers] are leaving from, what they're bringing, and who they represent," he asserted, vowing strict adherence to Dominican laws.

Venezuela reacts to US airspace closure threat

Venezuela reacts to US airspace closure threat
RT

Venezuela has rejected US President Donald Trump’s threat to shut down its airspace as an illegal “colonialist” attack on its sovereignty.

Trump, who accuses Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro of leading a drug cartel, intensified his warnings against “narcoterrorists” on Saturday. “To all Airlines, Pilots, Drug Dealers, and Human Traffickers, please consider THE AIRSPACE ABOVE AND SURROUNDING VENEZUELA TO BE CLOSED IN ITS ENTIRETY,” he wrote on his Truth Social platform.

His comments came amid a US military buildup near Venezuelan coasts and strikes on alleged cartel boats in international waters.

The Venezuelan Foreign Ministry issued a statement condemning “the colonialist threat aimed at undermining the sovereignty of its airspace.”

“This type of declaration constitutes a hostile, unilateral, and arbitrary act, incompatible with the most fundamental principles of international law,” the statement said.

Trump has refused to rule out military operations on Venezuelan territory and hinted during his Thanksgiving message to troops that strikes could soon follow.

Maduro has denied any ties to cartels and warned Washington against starting “a crazy war” in the region. He previously placed the armed forces on high alert and held several drills.

The US Federal Aviation Administration has warned airlines of a “potentially hazardous situation” when flying over Venezuela. Caracas responded by suspending flights from six international carrier

Antifa Mob Mobilizes Terror Campaign Against AfD Event

Antifa Mob Mobilizes Terror Campaign Against AfD Event
TYLER DURDEN

A wave of chaos continues to spread across the Western world by the far-left extremist group Antifa

In the U.S., this group of unhinged leftists is classified as domestic terrorists for their attacks on federal buildings and personnel. In Europe, these far-left extremists have launched an ongoing campaign of terror against the rising Alternative for Germany (AfD) party.

On Saturday, Antifa unleashed chaos near an AfD youth organization event in the western German city of Giessen. AfD aims to engage young voters and elect the first leader of the newly formed youth wing. Antifa rioters attempted to derail the event.

57,000 protesters are expected to show up under the motto “GIESSEN MUST BURN”. Up to 6,000 police officers are being deployed. We pay taxes for leftist NGOs behind this civil warfare! The VlOLENCE is already spreading, young AfD members are under attack, fearing for their LIVES. The AfD will arise as the winner. They are already the most popular party in the polls. The Left is not defending democracy. The Left FEARS democracy.

Antifa rioters allegedly "attacked" the AfD Bundestag member of parliament, Julian Schmidt.

As AfD rises in popularity, the wave of terror by Antifa increases:

NGO and statecraft expert Mike Benz explains more about the global Antifa network sowing chaos across the West.

Trump Declares Airspace Above Venezuela "To Be Closed In Its Entirety"

Trump Declares Airspace Above Venezuela "To Be Closed In Its Entirety"
TYLER DURDEN

President Trump said on Saturday on X that the airspace above and surrounding Venezuela will "be closed in its entirety."

"To all Airlines, Pilots, Drug Dealers, and Human Traffickers, please consider THE AIRSPACE ABOVE AND SURROUNDING VENEZUELA TO BE CLOSED IN ITS ENTIRETY. Thank you for your attention to this matter! PRESIDENT DONALD J. TRUMP," Trump wrote on X.

Earlier this month, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) warned pilots to "exercise caution" near Venezuela's airspace due to the "worsening security situation and heightened military activity.

The Pentagon has been deploying warships and other military assets in the Caribbean this year. The deployment centers around bolstering Hemispheric Defense, and the Trump administration has formally characterized Nicolás Maduro as the head of a terrorist organization and considers his government illegitimate.

Joint Special Operations Command has ordered numerous airstrikes on speed boats carrying narcoterrorists. The intent is to stop drugs, destroy narco-boats, and kill the narcoterrorists that are part of a sophisticated network pumping drugs into America, resulting in the drug death overdose crisis that kills 100,000 Americans per year - one that the Biden-Harris regime ignored by opening borders to the third world.

On Friday, Secretary of War Pete Hegseth dismissed fake news from corporate media about recent lethal kinetic strikes.

As usual, the fake news is delivering more fabricated, inflammatory, and derogatory reporting to discredit our incredible warriors fighting to protect the homeland.

As we've said from the beginning, and in every statement, these highly effective strikes are specifically intended to be "lethal, kinetic strikes." The declared intent is to stop lethal drugs, destroy narco-boats, and kill the narcoterrorists who are poisoning the American people. Every trafficker we kill is affiliated with a Designated Terrorist Organization.

The Biden administration preferred the kid gloves approach, allowing millions of people — including dangerous cartels and unvetted Afghans — to flood our communities with drugs and violence. The Trump administration has sealed the border and gone on offense against narcoterrorists. Biden coddled terrorists, we kill them.

Our current operations in the Caribbean are lawful under both U.S. and international law, with all actions in compliance with the law of armed conflict—and approved by the best military and civilian lawyers, up and down the chain of command.

Our warriors in SOUTHCOM put their lives on the line every day to protect the Homeland from narcoterrorists — and I will ALWAYS have their back.

Hegseth followed the post with, "We have only just begun to kill narcoterrorists."

What the U.S. airspace shutdown over Venezuela signals:

  • Pressure Maduro into stepping down

  • Or intent to collapse the Maduro regime

  • Expectation of Russian/Iranian pushback

  • Readiness to escalate militarily

Maduro and his circle would treat this as both an existential threat, and it remains to be seen how he would respond. We guess Trump's airspace announcement only suggests talks aren't going well.

Israel's hidden campaign in Syria

Israel's hidden campaign in Syria is far more than stopping terrorism

For a year now, IDF forces have been operating in the buffer zone on the Golan Heights and east of it, working to disrupt terrorist networks threatening Israel. That is what the IDF troops were doing before dawn on Friday in the village of Beit Jann.

Despite the dramatic surprise surrounding the fall of the Assad regime, the Israeli government accurately read the situation and swiftly instructed the IDF to seize control of the buffer zone on the Syrian Golan Heights. Since then, Israeli forces have been operating in Syrian territory from roughly 10 outposts stretching from Mount Hermon to the southern Golan near the Yarmouk slopes.

Within this framework, the forces carry out intelligence-driven raids to foil terrorist activity in villages within their sector, including beyond the buffer zone. This activity, which over the past year has become routine, has led to the thwarting of Hamas-directed cells, Islamic State-inspired cells and cells directed by Iranian proxies.

In Sunni Muslim villages and towns, there is hostility toward the Israeli presence, and there have already been exchanges of fire that, until Friday morning, had not resulted in Israeli casualties. In this context, the encounter early Friday between a paratroop unit and armed men in Beit Jann, in which six soldiers were wounded, was not unexpected.

Beit Jann lies in a narrow valley on the slopes of Mount Hermon. Its residents, together with the adjacent town Mazraat Beit Jann, about twenty thousand Sunni Muslims in total, were considered supporters of the Assad regime during the civil war. After the 1973 Yom Kippur War, the IDF captured the area and remained there throughout the months of attrition until withdrawing under the 1974 disengagement agreement. At the time, I served as a tank commander at an outpost near Mazraat Beit Jann. In those days, the villagers were unarmed and did not serve as fertile ground for terrorist networks.

Today, the situation across Syria is entirely different. During the civil war, and especially after the fall of the Assad regime and the collapse of the Syrian army, the villages and towns became awash with weapons of all kinds, not only small arms. In this dimension, the monopoly on armed force across Syria is far from being held solely by the official government and army.

Political upheaval in Damascus

Damascus is marking one year since the fall of the Assad regime. Through astute diplomatic maneuvering, the new president, Mahmoud al-Shar'a, has secured broad international backing, including from the White House. Yet he is struggling to impose stability in the face of heavily armed separatist minorities, primarily the Druze and Kurds. At the same time, the regime itself uses armed Bedouin tribal groups for its purposes, as seen in the fighting in the Druze Mountain region, even though these groups are not fully subject to government authority.

Syria today is in a state of fluid, uncontrollable transformation, resembling streams of molten lava flowing during a volcanic eruption. Israel's activity, by this analogy, serves a dual purpose. The first and immediate goal is to prevent these streams from reaching the Israeli Golan border.

The second goal is to influence the shaping of trends unfolding in Syria that have long-term implications for Israel's strategic interests, just before these "lava streams" cool and solidify into a lasting new reality. From this perspective, the IDF's military friction, which also includes efforts to provide humanitarian aid to local residents, serves a purpose that extends beyond counterterrorism.

A global battleground

Meanwhile, Syria has become a battleground for global influence.

Turkish efforts, bolstered by Qatari funding, stand out prominently. At the same time, Russia is seeking to restore its influence in and on Syria, including moves to reassert its presence on the Golan. One can assume Moscow is aiming to prevent a situation similar to the Gaza Strip, where the US has exclusive regional dominance in shaping long-term trends.

Within this system, the IDF presence in the area carries strategic significance, tied to readiness and the ability to operate east of the Golan border. This operational concept dates back to the tactics passed from Orde Wingate to Moshe Dayan and Yigal Allon in the 1938 Special Night Squads, which emphasized proactive operations beyond settlement fences and raids deep into Arab villages. This is what active defense looks like.

Russia Launches Massive Strike on Ukrainian Military-Industrial Enterprises

Russia Launches Massive Strike on Ukrainian Military-Industrial Enterprises

The Russian armed forces launched a massive strike against Ukraine's military-industrial complex and the energy facilities supplying it in response to Kiev's terrorist attacks on civilian targets in Russia, the Russian Defense Ministry said on Saturday.

"In response to Ukraine's terrorist attacks on civilian targets in Russia, the Russian armed forces launched a massive strike with high-precision weapons and unmanned aerial vehicles on Ukrainian military-industrial complex enterprises and energy facilities that support their operations," the Russian ministry said in a statement.

The goals of the strike were achieved, and all designated facilities were hit, the Russian Defense Ministry added.
The Russian armed forces have also destroyed the infrastructure of a Ukrainian military aerodrome and storage and launch sites for long-range unmanned aerial vehicles, the Russian Defense Ministry said.
Russia's Sever battlegroup has eliminated formations of three Ukrainian mechanized brigades and two assault regiments in the areas of the settlements of Pavlovka, Andreevka, Novaya Sech, and Varachino in Sumy region
Russia's Zapad battlegroup has striked the settlements of Kurilovka and Novoplatonovka settlements in Kharkov region and Novosyolovka, Drobyshevo, Yarovaya, and Stavki settlements in the Donetsk People's Republic (DPR). There, Ukraine lost over 230 servicemen, one tank, three armored combat vehicles, ten automobiles, three artillery systems, and one US-made counter-battery radar station. Nine electronic warfare stations and three ammunition depots were also destroyed
Russia's Tsentr bettlegroup repelled nine Ukrainian attacks from the Grishino area in the Donetsk People's Republic (DPR), and eliminated up to 25 Ukrainian soldiers over the past day
Russia's Vostok battlegroup has defeated formations of a Ukrainian mechanized brigade, an assault brigade, and three assault regiments in the areas of the settlements of Aleksandrovka and Pokrovskoye in Dnepropetrovsk region, and Dobropolye, Varvarovka, and Gulyaypole in Zaporozhye region
