Amazon workers are listening to private and sometimes disturbing voice recordings to improve the voice-assistants' understanding of human speech.
The company has admitted to its customers that thousands of recordings are being analysed by staff and transcribed before feeding them back into the software.
As many as 1,000 clips are reviewed by workers in buildings all over the world, many of which do not bear any obvious indication that they are run by Amazon.
Staff members have said that the work is mostly mundane, however they do come across embarrassing clips, like a woman singing off-key in the shower.
The teams use internal chat rooms to share files when they need help deciphering a muddled word - or come when they come across an amusing recording.
Among more sinister content the workers have heard, have been a child screaming for help and two instances were they believed they heard a sexual assault taking place.
MailOnline has asked Amazon to elaborate on their procedures and policies regarding this but they did not respond by the time this article was published.
The company confirmed that it does use the recordings as part of its work to improve Alexa's ability to understand human language and speech patterns, but had strict security systems in place to keep user data safe.
Amazon devices have previously been activated when they're not wanted - meaning the devices could be listening.
Millions are reluctant to invite the devices and their powerful microphones into their homes out of concern that their conversations are being heard.
Amazon devices rely on microphones listening out for a key word, which can be triggered by accident and without their owner's realisation.
The camera on the £119.99 ($129) Echo Spot, which doubles up as a 'smart alarm', will also probably be facing directly at the user's bed.
The device has such sophisticated microphones it can hear people talking from across the room - even if music is playing.
Last month a hack by British security researcher Mark Barnes saw 2015 and 2016 versions of the Echo turned into a live microphone.
Fraudsters could then use this live audio feed to collect sensitive information from the device.

Google Controls the Media
Google constitutes over 80% of all internet search engine inquiries. Google basically controls the internet. And in today’s world, if one controls the internet, they control the media, they can manipulate elections, they can create a false reality for the general population and they can destroy reputations of their opponents through shadow banning and outright de-platforming. In 1996, 50 corporation owned 98% of the media. Today, five corporations control 98% of everything you hear, see and ultimately think. Underlying this massive power base is Google. The Mainstream Media is dependent upon the internet to get the word out. All of TV is going to live streaming. Young adults do not watch TV, they watch the internet streaming services of Netflix and Amazon Prime. Newspapers are going broke and they have increasingly turned most of their content over to the internet. Even regular network TV is offering on demand shows that are internet based. Education is going the way of the internet. Retail has been forced to go to the internet in order to survive the onslaught of Amazon.
In short, the internet reigns supreme and underlying the monolithic media power base is Google. Google monopolizes the internet and in doing so, they can determine economic winners and losers by where these entities are placed with regard to search engine traffic.
What about elections? Google can shadow-ban conservative candidates, feature negative stories regarding political opponents and they have even been caught shadow banning the President of the United States.
Twitter's shadow-banning has reduced the President's audience by an estimated 25%! Google respects no court, no government and no law. Google is their own law. Google, Facebook Twitter, Snap Chat are examples of the propagandizing of the world. Google is a creator of tyranny and a major violator of human rights as evidenced by their social credit system they set up in Communist China . They are doing the same thing in New Zealand. The participants in the realm of the internet are the serfs of Google globalist feudal empire. If one misbehaves they will become a nonperson. In China's social credit system, one loses their job, their apartment, the right to travel and the right to go to college, if they misbehave and are not accepting of total tyranny on the internet.
Google is anti-God, anti-conservative an with their decided bias towards a transhumanistic singularity, they are anti-human. Google must be stopped at all costs. They are and will be the source of the Beast that will not permit you to buy or sell unless you take the mark of the beast. Will that mark be 666 or ggg?
