There are currently 3 named storms raging around the globe: Eboni (USA), Usman (Philippines), Yeti (Russia; I gave it the name!), creating a wave of weather chaos around the world. Here the latest updates:
Yeti (Russia)
A powerful and now deadly cyclone is currently hitting the Kuril Islands, Sakhalin, the Khabarovsk Territory and Kamchatka, Russia with winds
up to 33 m/s (74mph), power outages and tons of snow.
up to 33 m/s (74mph), power outages and tons of snow.
After 5 days of continuous snowfall, accumulation reaches up to the second floor of buildings:
It is completely crazy! The extreme snowmass also triggered many avalanches, with at least one deadly – at least 2 dead and 9 rescued – in the east of the Khabarovsk Territory.
The strong and intense winds damaged buildings and cars. The wind conditions also increased the water level in the Avachinskaya Bay, resulting in tidal waves, washing cars away in the Seroglazka microdistrict.
Winter storm Eboni (USA)
Winter storm Eboni produced a snowy chaos for Northern Plains, killing 4 in Kansas (1), Minnesota (2), North Dakota (1), closing interstates, highways… and flooding Tennessee (1), Louisiana (1) as well as Mississippi, Alabama, North Carolina and Texas.
The Minnesota State Patrol said it responded to 167 crashes, 259 spinouts and 13 jackknifed semis on Thursday.
The Kansas Highway Patrol said it responded to at least 29 crashes during the storm. Ahead of the storm, Kansas Gov. Jeff Colyer issued a disaster declaration on Wednesday.
Whiteout conditions from the storm forced the closure of portions of I-80 in Nebraska on Thursday. Eastbound I-80 and Highway 30 were closed from North Platte to Lexington. The roads were reopened Friday morning.
Heavy snow in the Oklahoma Panhandle forced the closure of several highways, including state Highway 54, where several tractor-trailers jackknifed.
In Utah, two highway patrol vehicles were involved in separate crashes Wednesday on slick roads. No injuries were reported in either wreck, the Associated Press reported.
Snow and ice from Eboni closed northbound lanes on Southern California’s 15 Freeway near Cajon Pass for hours Tuesday following a chain-reaction crash involving about 40 vehicles:
Tropical depression Usman (Philippines)
The tropical depression “Usman” has already reached the Philippine island of Samar and continues westwards toward the Visayas and Palawan island.
