Hooded rioters looted stores in Frankfurt late on Saturday after tens of thousands of demonstrators took to the streets across Germany's biggest cities to demand better education and lower living costs.

The protests followed a wave ‌of Gen Z-led demonstrations across Europe this year. In Serbia, student-led activism helped unseat the country's longtime leader at the ballot box, while protests in ‌France have descended into rioting and looting.

The German protests organised by the campaign group "Gen Z regelt" — "Gen Z takes charge" in German — took place in 34 cities including Berlin, Frankfurt and Munich. The group says it opposes compulsory military service and wants greater investment in education as many young Germans struggle with rising costs.

In Frankfurt, Germany's financial hub, at least two stores were looted as protests turned violent, with several more damaged and police trying to get the situation under control, according to a Reuters witness.

"Violent disturbances are continuing," Frankfurt police said on X. "In the city centre, windows have been smashed at several shops. Molotov cocktails are also being thrown at the emergency services. We urge all bystanders to avoid the city centre ‌or to leave the area."

Parts of Germany's far-left extremist scene and some groups linked ‌to foreign extremist movements have joined efforts to mobilise support, according to the federal interior ministry.

"We all have those images from France in our minds — looting, burning houses, burning police vehicles, and attacks on police officers," said Roman Poseck, interior minister for the state of Hesse, whose capital is Germany's financial hub, Frankfurt.

"France must not be held up as a model in this regard."

Some businesses across German cities boarded up windows and planned early closures ahead of the demonstrations due to concerns over possible unrest, including along Berlin's luxury Kurfuerstendamm shopping boulevard.

Tusk Overthrows Government To Keep WWIII in Play

Tusk Overthrows Government To Keep WWIII in Play

Yes the ECM turn was precisely on track in Poland. The Tusk government has been engaged in a sustained effort to neutralize the influence of the current Constitutional Tribunal, which it regards as illegitimate due to judges appointed under the previous Law and Justice (PiS) government. The judiciary is calling it as coup d’état. This is all about keeping geopolitical objectives of war with Russia. I will deal with the fate of Poland on the Private Blog.

The ongoing dispute in Poland involves a power struggle between Prime Minister Donald Tusk and President Karol Nawrocki, primarily centered around the control of the Constitutional Tribunal.

This conflict has escalated into a significant constitutional crisis. But what the press stays away from is that this is about World War III to save the EU. Karol Nawrocki has publicly opposed Ukraine’s accession to NATO. He believes that Ukraine should not join until certain historical grievances, particularly related to the Volhynia massacres, are addressed. This stance has led some to interpret his position as anti-Ukrainian.

Donald Tusk has consistently advocated for strong support for Ukraine in its conflict with Russia. He emphasizes that aiding Ukraine is crucial for the security of Europe. Tusk has stated that anyone seeking to weaken Ukraine is acting against their own nation’s interests.

He has called for increased military assistance to Ukraine and tougher sanctions against Russia. He insists that it is necessary to deter Russian aggression with force, which he views as a threat not only to Ukraine but to European security as a whole, which is the unity BS put out by the EU to distract everyone from the rising separatist movements because of the EU migrant policy to increase the people who will vote for the EU and the LEFT..

Tusk has warned that Russia’s ambitions extend beyond Ukraine, suggesting that if unchecked, Russia could threaten other European nations. He has described the current situation as a “pre-war era,” indicating the seriousness of the threat he claims is posed by Russia, when in fact this is all about keeping the EU.

To make this absolutely clear, Donald Tusk has NEVER been directly elected by the Polish people as president; he has been elected as Prime Minister by the Polish parliament only. The people have no right to actually elect the head of state so he becomes a defacto dictator elected only by bureaucrats, not the people. He previously served as Prime Minister from 2007 to 2014 and was re-elected by parliament in 2011.

The announcement of the Pentagon's FORTRESS initiative has drawn attention to the U.S. military's strategies aiming to bolster its energy resilience amid concerns over grid reliability, supply-chain disruptions and other potential threats.

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth unveiled the Federal Operations for Resilience, Troop Resources, Energy, Supply, and Survivability (FORTRESS) initiative on September 30 in a memo, dubbing it "the nation's insurance policy" to ensure the U.S. would still be able to obtain the materials it needs and carry out operations if traditional supply chains were cut off.

The Pentagon's focus on resilience mirrors a broader emphasis on preparedness seen in other countries. Last week in Britain, officials encouraged households to keep basic emergency supplies available for short-term disruptions such as storms, infrastructure failures and power outages, as part of its Be Ready campaign.

Energy independence is among the five pillars mentioned in the FORTRESS initiative. The U.S. Army has already been pursuing that objective through its Janus Program, which aims to deploy nuclear microreactors at military sites. Five bases have already been selected for the first wave of deployments, with the reactors designed to provide reliable power during grid outages, cyberattacks, extreme weather and other emergencies.

The Janus program was not announced as part of FORTRESS. Rather, it is a separate Army effort unveiled last year. Officials have also not characterized either Janus or FORTRESS as a response to any specific imminent threat. Instead, both initiatives are aimed at improving energy resilience and ensuring critical military operations can continue during disruptions.

Newsweek reached out to the Pentagon via email for comment on Thursday.

Five U.S. military bases have been selected as sites where nuclear microreactors will be built as part of the Army's Janus program. The Army announced the sites and vendors in August.

The sites poised to add them are:

  • Fort Bragg, North Carolina

  • Fort Campbell, Kentucky

  • Fort Hood, Texas

  • Fort Benning, Georgia

  • Fort Drum, New York

The Army's goal is for the first of these microreactors to be operational by September 2028.

Modern conflicts such as the long-running Russia-Ukraine tumult have underscored how critical infrastructure is increasingly targeted during wartime, including power stations, electrical grids and oil refineries. The FORTRESS initiative is designed to help ensure U.S. military installations can continue operating if similar disruptions affect domestic energy or supply networks.

The 90-day goal reflects concerns that future conflicts could involve sustained attacks on critical infrastructure and supply networks. By improving energy resilience and stockpiling key resources, the Pentagon aims to ensure military bases can continue operating for months even if the commercial grid or traditional supply chains are disrupted.

The Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS), a Washington, D.C.-based think tank, described some of the FORTRESS goals as "extremely ambitious."

The U.S. Army announced the Janus program, "a next-generation nuclear power program that will deliver resilient, secure, and assured energy to support national defense installations and critical missions," in October 2025.

The program will deploy commercial nuclear microreactors at military installations with the goal of providing military bases with a reliable electricity source that operates independently of the commercial power grid in case of failure because of cyberattacks, extreme weather, physical attacks or other disruptions.

Eventually, the Army plans to build more than 20 nuclear microreactors across military sites, according to the August announcement from the Department of Defense.

Microreactors are essentially small nuclear power plants that can produce electricity and heat on a smaller scale than traditional commercial nuclear reactors.

The reactors are designed to provide a steady, around-the-clock source of electricity that does not depend on fuel deliveries or the commercial power grid, helping military installations continue operating during outages, cyberattacks, extreme weather or other emergencies.

In addition to announcing the military sites where the microreactors will be built, the U.S. Army also unveiled the microreactor vendors in its August announcement. The vendors building the reactors are: Antares Nuclear Inc. at Fort Bragg in North Carolina; BWXT Advanced Technologies LLC at Fort Campbell in Kentucky; General Atomics Electromagnetic Systems at Fort Hood in Texas; Radiant Industries Inc. at Fort Benning in Georgia; and Westinghouse Government Services at Fort Drum in New York.

Russia says responding to US report of planned attack on Moscow

Russia says responding to US report of planned attack on Moscow

Russia's FSB security service said on Saturday it was carrying out "appropriate" measures after the US embassy in Moscow warned of a planned "terrorist" attack in the capital.

The US embassy said earlier it was "aware of a credible threat of a mass casualty event TODAY October 31, at the Tsaritsyno Museum Reserve in Moscow".

The US government was "coordinating with appropriate Russian authorities on a response," it said, advising people: "Avoid the area, stay alert, and avoid crowds."

The US embassy did not give details on who was plotting the attack.

The Tsaritsyno museum is an imperial palace and park complex in southern Moscow that is a popular place to visit, especially on weekends.

Russian Telegram channel Baza, which reportedly has links to law enforcement, said the park was now closed and "open only for exits".

"Law enforcement officers are on the premises," it reported.

Russia's FSB security service said earlier it had received information from the United States "regarding the preparation of a terrorist attack".

"Appropriate work is underway," it was quoted as saying by Russian news agencies.

The US has provided Russia with warnings of planned attacks before, including in March 2024, weeks before an ISIS-K attack on a Moscow concert hall that killed over 100 people.

Liberman shakes up opposition bloc: No coalition with Arab parties

Liberman shakes up opposition bloc: No coalition with Arab parties

Yisrael Beytenu chairman Avigdor Liberman made clear on Friday that his party would not join a coalition that includes Arab parties.

In a strongly worded Facebook post, Liberman criticized statements made by MKs Ofer Cassif and Yasser Hujirat, as well as remarks delivered at Joint List headquarters on election night.

Liberman drew a clear red line regarding the composition of the next government, declaring: "We will not sit with supporters of terrorism."

He cited several statements by representatives of the Arab parties to explain his position, particularly Cassif's support for the proceedings initiated by South Africa against Israel at the International Court of Justice in The Hague following the October 7 attack.

"After October 7, Ofer Cassif supported the proceedings initiated by South Africa against Israel at the International Court of Justice in The Hague, which alleged that Israel was committing genocide," Liberman wrote. He also recalled Cassif's claim that "the Israeli military carries out acts of terrorism."

Liberman then turned to Ra'am MK Yasser Hujirat, who, according to Liberman, claimed several weeks before the elections that Hamas was not a terrorist organization but a charitable organization.

He also cited remarks made by Osama Saadi on election night, when Saadi dedicated the Joint List's electoral achievement "to our people in the Gaza Strip, the West Bank, and occupied Jerusalem."

Liberman concluded with an unequivocal statement reaffirming his party's position: "Anyone who wants to rely on supporters of terrorism is welcome to do so. Yisrael Beytenu will not be part of it."
