In The News: Epicenter Updates - Iran 4-6 Months From Nuclear Capability

Iran Could Build Nuclear Bomb In 4-6 Months

If true, this certainly hastens the prophetic timeline:

Iran has what it needs to to build a nuclear bomb in a matter of four to six months, Amos Yadlin, the head of the Institute for National Security Studies, said Monday.
“Iran has completed in the last two years two components that… give it all of the necessary means to manufacture a nuclear weapons as soon as it chooses to do so,” Yadlin, a former Israeli army intelligence chief, told journalists at a presentation of the INSS annual report on Israel’s strategic status.
Yadlin noted, however, that despite the narrow window of opportunity to thwart Iran before it breaks out toward a weaponized nuclear capability, there was still time for diplomatic and/or military action.
An Israeli attack on Tehran’s nuclear facilities, he assessed, would elicit an Iranian response, but not of a magnitude that would precipitate a regional war.
“It may be that they’ll decide to act in 2013, and then we’ll require Israeli and perhaps also American action,” he said. “If Iran is attacked, there’ll be a military conflagration in the Middle East. But our assessment is that the Middle East won’t be enveloped in all-out war and the Iranians will respond in a calculated, limited fashion.”

Israel will regret its latest "aggression against Syria", a top Iranian official visiting Damascus told reporters on Monday.
"Just like it regretted all its wars... the Zionist entity will regret its aggression against Syria," said National Security Council head Said Jalili, a day after Israel implicitly confirmed it staged an air strike near Damascus last week.
Any actions Iran decides to attempt against Israel are more likely to be carried out indirectly, through terrorists, than through direct military action.

Iran is intensifying a campaign to destabilize the Middle East by smuggling anti-aircraft weapons to militant allies through its international paramilitary force, according to Leon Panetta, the outgoing US defense secretary.

Israel is reportedly considering launching an air strike against an Iranian listening post near Syria’s border with the Golan Heights, Britain’s Sunday Times reported.
According to the report, based on a single unnamed military source, should Israel launch a new strike against Syria, one of the targets would be a heavily fortified Iranian intelligence station near the town of Daraa, which it places as some seven miles from the border with Israel.
“We know they [the Iranians] are monitoring our army communication, gathering intelligence and trying to log into our military computers,” the unnamed Israeli source told The Sunday Times. “This is a serious problem for our forces.”
Last week, Israeli planes launched a strike against Syria, hitting a weapons convoy headed for Lebanon, according to foreign media reports. Syria’s state news agency reported a “research complex” north of Damascus had been hit, broadcasting images of the damage on Saturday.

Syrian ruler Bashar Assad has ordered the resumption of weapons transfers to the Lebanese Hizballah, DEBKAfile’s exclusive military and intelligence sources report. This was agreed with Iran’s National Security Director Saeed Jalilee, who arrived in Damascus after Israel’s reported air strike last Wednesday, Jan. 30, inter alia, on Syrian trucks preparing to ferry to Lebanon for Hizballah the sophisticated Iran-supplied arms stored at the Jamraya military complex north of Damascus.

The Syrian ruler assured the Iranian official that he would not be deterred by what he called acts of “aggression.” It was up to Syria and Iran to put their heads together to find a safe method of getting the hardware across to Hizballah without exposing it to Israeli attack in truck convoys on the open road.

According to our sources, Israeli military tacticians believe that as winter weather starts clearing up, Syria and Iran will devise crafty methods for outwitting Israel and getting the weapons to Lebanon – for example, disassembling the missiles and launchers and disguising them as non-lethal merchandize. They could then be spirited across from Syria to Lebanon in small packages by the smuggling rings regularly operating on their common border.

In anticipation of such tricks, the Israeli Air Force has in recent days thrown a round-the-clock blanket over the border area. It is constantly monitoring the traffic moving across and is ready to prevent any arms traffic.  Without going through any formalities, Israel has thus effectively imposed a no-fly regime over a buffer zone straddling the Syrian-Lebanese border and placed it under the control of its air force.

Israeli officials have been warning for months that the IDF will not allow the transfer of advanced Syrian weapons – including chemical and biological weapons – to terrorist groups such as Al-Qaeda affiliated Al-Nusra Front and Hezbollah.

Israel intends to declare a buffer zone inside the Syrian border to prevent terrorists from getting too close to its territory when the embattled Damascus regime topples, security sources quoted by the AFP news agency said on Sunday.

"There's a plan in the military's northern command for the 'day after'according to which, when Bashar Assad is no longer president of Syria, there's a fear that terror elements will try to approach the fence," the sources told AFP. "So they want to create some sort of buffer zone within Syrian territory, and let everyone know. This is to prevent a situation where terror reaches the fence without us being able to prevent it, by allowing us to see it," the sources explained.
"This will be a buffer zone belonging to Syria. We are not invading Syrian land," the sources said, stressing these were initial plans, and not providing specifics on how

We also have to remember that the revived Roman Empire will morph into "10 kings" and this stage of development will give rise to the antichrist. We see much needed perspective in this next link - just as a reminder (video link included below): This is highly prophetic and highly expected:

From Margaret Thatcher's original (now extremely prescient) warning of the European Union's structure creating "insecurity, unemployment, national resentment, and ethnic conflict" to Nigel Farage's recent clarifications on the agonizing direction in which the unelected leadership of the Union are pulling Europe, this brief 3 minute clip draws some significantly eery similarities between the former Soviet Union and the current European Union. Every now and again, a step back to look for context in history is important - as while the Soviet Union was created by armed force, the European Union is being forced by political coercion and economic bullying. Perhaps Churchill summed up best how it should be, "We are with Europe, but not of it; we are linked but not combined; we are interested and associated but not absorbed."

Escalation? Lebanese Media: Israeli Air Strike Causes Explosion

This story comes first from the Jerusalem Post:

Lebanese media outlets reported on Sunday night the Israel Air Force (IAF) caused a large explosion in southern Lebanon with an air strike east of Tyre. According to Sky News, IAF planes were seen flying in Lebanese air space around the time of the explosion.
The reports follow days of so-called IAF "mock raids" over Lebanese air space, according to Lebanese news sites.
Lebanon's official National News Agency reported at the time that an explosion was heard in villages east of Tyre, although they added that the cause of the explosion was unknown.

Voicing the fears of the Israeli government over the transfer of unconventional weaponry, the sources said: "The main target was a shipment of weapons in a convoy, potentially headed to the wrong kinds of people,” the Post quoted one senior US military official, speaking on the condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the incident, as saying.

A blast went off in southern Lebanon, near the city of Tyre, late on Sunday night, Al-Arabiya reported, based on local media sources.

The blast reportedly occurred after anelectronic device exploded in the area.
The Lebanese Future TV network said that an “Israeli aircraft might have detonated an electronic transmission device” in the southern area of al-Fawwar.

“Hizbullah has cordoned off the area,” Future TV added.
The official Lebanese NNA news agency claimed that “Israeli aircraft did not leave the Lebanese airspace over the South all through the day.”

Reports of the explosion in Tyre come several hours after Lebanese media reported that Israeli war planes were spotted in the skies above southern Lebanon.
It appeared the pilots were rehearsing attacks on targets in the region, local sources told media outlets.

In The Middle East: More War Preparations As Israel Continues "Mock Raids" Over Lebanon

The movements towards war continue in a step-wise progression, and everything we see in the news today points to imminent war. As Jesus stated in His Oliver Discourse, we should expect to see wars and rumors of war, and indeed that is exactly what we are seeing now on a daily basis.

We know that Isaiah 17 and Ezekiel 38-39 are just around the corner, and in a single news cycle we see the build-up continuing. It won't be long now:

Lebanese media reported Sunday afternoon that Israeli war planes were spotted in the skies above southern Lebanon.
It appeared the pilots were rehearsing attacks on targets in the region, local sources told media outlets.

Both Syria and Lebanon accused Israel of carrying out air strikes on a convoy last Wednesday that was transporting Russian-made surface-to-air missiles from the Damascus area towards the border with Lebanon.

Barak did not bluntly say that Israel had carried out the strike, skirting the issue by saying, “I cannot add anything to what you have read... about what happened in Syria several days ago.
“But I keep telling ... that we said, and that is another proof that when we say something we mean it, we say that it should not be allowable to bring advanced weapons systems into Lebanon and Hizbullah from Syria when [Syrian President Bashar al-] Assad falls.”
Barak added that in his view, “Hizbullah from Lebanon and the Iranians are the only allies that Assad has left.” He said the region has not been this unstable since the collapse of the Ottoman Empire.

Israeli Defense Minister Ehud Barak brought the issue up at a gathering of the world’s top diplomats and defense officials in Germany, initially saying: “I cannot add anything to what you have read in the newspapers about what happened in Syria several days ago.”
But, addressing the audience in English, he then added: “I keep telling frankly that we said – and that’s proof when we said something we mean it- we say that we don’t think it should be allowed to bring advanced weapons systems into Lebanon.”
In Syria, President Bashar Assad said his military was capable of confronting any “aggression” targeting the country, his first comments since the airstrike.

The chief of Iran’s powerful Revolutionary Guards said in remarks Sunday that Tehran also hopes Syria will retaliate against Israel for a recent airstrike on its territory.
The report by the official IRNA news agency quotes Gen. Mohammad Ali Jafari as saying, “We are hopeful that Syria gives an appropriate response to the strike in the proper time.”

Israel’s defense minister Ehud Barak had strong words for Iran and its allies at the Munich Security Conference Sunday, Feb. 3, while, in Damascus, Iran’s National Security Director Saeed Jalili conferred urgently with Syrian President Bashar Assad. They discussed activating the secret mutual defense pact binding Iran, Syria, Hizballlah and Hamas in reprisal for the Israeli air strike which reportedly hit a military complex near Damascus last Wednesday.

Iranian and intelligence sources believe the Iranians are simply playing for time to decide how to retaliate for Israel’s reported strike on the military complex which Syria shares with its allies. The man to watch is Jalilee who, we can report exclusively, arrived post haste in Damascus Saturday, Feb. 2, to warn Syrian leaders that Tehran is not willing to forego a military response to an attack which destroyed a whole supply of advanced Iranian weapons Tehran sent to Hizballah in the last two years and which were stored at the Jamraya compound.

The Syrian ruler clearly agrees with his Iranian guest. Sunday, he accused Israel of trying to "destabilize" his country. His first remarks on the reported Israeli air strike in Syria on Wednesday came after he met Jalilee. He added that Syria was able to confront "current threats... and aggression."

Barak’s tough comments in Munich told Tehran that Israel is ready to remove the gloves against Syria and Hizballlah. Iranian leaders heeded his words well while at the same time keeping track of the Syrian opposition leader Mouaz al-Khatib’s meetings in Munich with US Vice President Joe Biden and, for the first time, with the foreign ministers of Russia and Iran, Sergey Lavrov and Ali Akbar Salehi.

Israeli warplanes reportedly buzzed southern Lebanon on Sunday and conducted “mock raids” for the third consecutive day, according to the Lebanese National News Agency.
The government outlet reported earlier in the weekend that Israel Air Force jets flew over the southern Lebanese towns of Nabatieh, Tuffah, Marjayoun and Bint Jbeil.

On Friday, a Lebanese security official reported that Israeli warplanes flew over southern Lebanon and were headed toward the eastern Bekaa Valley on the Syrian border.
Israel Radio on Friday cited a Lebanese media report that claimed Israeli jets were conducting reconnaissance missions over several sites in the south.

Israel’s army chief on Sunday landed in the United States for talks with his American counterpart, amid tension with Syria following a reported Israel airstrike there last week. He arrived as Israel’s defense minister insisted that Israel “means what it says” about preventing advanced weaponry being moved into Lebanon as Bashar Assad’s regime in Damascus loses control.

IDF chief of General Staff Lt.-Gen. Benny Gantz began a five-day work visit in the United States as the guest of the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Gen. Martin E. Dempsey, the IDF announced on Sunday afternoon.
It said Gantz and Dempsey would hold “a series of work meetings together” and with other American officials, and would “discuss current security challenges, the regional security status in the Middle East and military cooperation.”

Gantz was accompanied by the head of the IDF’s Planning Directorate, Maj.-Gen. Nimrod Sheffer.

Apart from the Syria crisis, the two military chiefs will likely also focus on Iran’s nuclear weapons drive. Formally starting the process of building his new government on Saturday night, Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said stopping Iran would be his first priority. Late last summer, amid reports that Netanyahu wanted to launch military action against Iran, Dempsey publicly and dramatically declared that he would not want to be “complicit” in any such Israeli action.

Since the outbreak of the Syrian civil war, Israeli leaders have repeatedly expressed fears that if Syria were to disintegrate, Assad could lose control of his chemical weapons and other arms.

On Saturday night, Netanyahu, who is in the process of forming a new ruling coalition, said his new government would have to deal with weapons "being stockpiled near us and threatening our cities and civilians" — an apparent reference to the deteriorating situation in Syria.

Barak said "Hezbollah from Lebanon and the Iranians are the only allies that Assad has left." He said in his view Assad's fall "is coming imminently" and when it happens, "this will be a major blow to the Iranians and Hezbollah."

"I think that they will pay the price," he said.

As a top security official from Tehran arrived in Damascus to show support for the regime of President Bashar Assad, a senior Iranian military chief warned that there will a massive response to Israel’s alleged attack on a Syrian research facility last week, Iranian Press TV reported on Sunday.
“Syria’s response to the recent aggression of the Zionist regime against this country will send this regime into a coma,” Brig. Gen. Masoud Jazayeri, the  deputy chairman of the Iranian Armed Forces, said on Saturday.
Iran on Thursday threatened “grave consequences for Tel Aviv” after an alleged Israeli airstrike on Syrian military targets early Wednesday morning.
Jazayeri added that the era in which hegemonic powers bullied independent nations had come to an end, the report said.
“In the new era, the criminals should know that behind their every blow lies a massive retaliatory blow, whose time, level and magnitude will be determined by the resolve of the free and anti-hegemonic nations,” he warned.
Jazayeri’s comments came as Saeed Jalili, the secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, arrived in Damascus for a round of talks with senior regime officials, including Assad.
“Syria is considered the front line of the Muslim world in the face of the Zionist enemy,” Jalili said. “Enemies are attacking the Syrian infrastructure and imposing economic sanctions on it, in a desperate attempt to break the resistance and steadfastness of the Syrian nations.”
Jalili warned that Iran would not permit another Israeli attack on Syria. In 2006 Iran and Syria signed a military cooperation pact.

Iran is acquiring new centrifuges to reduce the time it takes to enrich uranium, Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu said at the start of Sunday's cabinet meeting, citing this as an example of why the country needs a national unity government.
Netanyahu said Israel is at a "decisive point" in its history, and repeated his call for a national unity government  made Saturday night, when President Shimon Peres formally charged him with forming a coalition.

"The next government's primary objective will be to stop the weaponization of Iran's nuclear program," he said. "This is a task that is becoming more difficult because Iran is acquiring new centrifuges that reduce the enrichment time. We cannot accept this."

Iran announced last week that it is upgrading its nuclear enrichment equipment at the Natanz nuclear plant, something that will speed up the uranium enrichment process. A senior official in the Prime Minister's Office said following that announcement that while the West was discussing where and when to meet Iran next, Iran is speedily working toward getting the bomb.

Members of Congress are asking the Obama administration to reconsider sending F-16 fighter jets to Egypt due to popular protests against the government and its use of anti-Semitic language.
“Recent violent outbreaks and the volatile situation in Egypt should give the US reason to pause when considering continuing to provide foreign assistance to the government of Egypt,” said Republican Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen, ranking member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee’s Middle East subcommittee, in announcing she was signing onto the letter sponsored by Republican Rep. Tim Griffin to US President Barack Obama and Secretary of State John Kerry. The letter requests that the administration delay the delivery of F-16 planes.

Ros-Lehtinen continued, “Even more disconcerting are Morsi’s views toward our closest friend and ally, the democratic Jewish State of Israel.”
She said that his statements “clearly reveal a man who holds Jews and Israel in such contempt that it would not be out of the realm of possibility to believe he is capable of turning his aggression toward Israel.”

Tensions are running high in the North of Israel. The IDF is bracing for possible retaliation by Syria, Hezbollah, and/or Iran after its recent air strikes on Syrian targets. Some Mideast analystsbelieve it’s just a matter of time before there is significant trouble on Israel’s northern borders.

“Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Saturday night promised to establish ‘the widest possible national unity government’ and urged even those political leaders who did not recommend him as prime minister to reconsider and join him,” reports the Times of Israel. “Netanyahu spoke immediately after President Shimon Peres, at a ceremony at the President’s Residence, formally charged him with the task of forming the next government. Netanyahu said the first priority of his new government would be thwarting Iran’s effort to attain nuclear weapons. He also pledged to seek peace, saying ‘every day that passes’ without negotiations with the Palestinians was a day wasted, and urging Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas to come back to the peace table.”

In The News Saturday: Turkey FM Urges Syria To Fight Israel

Predictably, Turkey is now voicing their anti-Israeli sentiment:

Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu on Saturday slammed both Israel for reported strikes in Syria earlier in the week, as well as Syria for its failure to respond to the attacks, Turkish daily The Hurriyet reported.
"Why didn't [Syrian President Bashar] Assad even throw a pebble when Israeli jets were flying over his palace and playing with the dignity of his country?" The Hurriyet quoted Davutoglu as saying.

"Why didn't the Syrian Army, which has been attacking its own innocent people for 22 months now from the air with jets and by land with tanks and artillery fire, respond to Israel's operation? Why can't Assad, who gave order to fire SCUD missiles at Aleppo, do anything against Israel?" the foreign minister said to reporters.

He further suggested that Assad's inaction was due to "a secret agreement" with Israel and vowed that Turkey would not sit still in the face of an Israel attack on any Muslim country.

Outgoing US Defense Secretary Leon Panetta accused Iran of an intensified campaign to destabilize the Middle East by smuggling anti-aircraft weapons to militant allies, The Wall Street Journal reported on Friday.

"There is no question when you start passing MANPADS around, that becomes a threat, not just to military aircraft but to civilian aircraft," Panetta told the newspaper in an interview. "That is an escalation."

MANPADS are shoulder-fired anti-aircraft missiles. Western officials have worried about the spread of such weapons and the risk they pose to airline passengers as well as to military helicopters and jets.

Yemeni forces intercepted a ship on Jan. 23 carrying a large cache of weapons - including surface-to-air missiles - that US officials suspect were being smuggled from Iran and destined for Yemeni insurgents.

The presumed Israeli airstrike within Syrian territory on Wednesday has elicited threats of retaliation from both Syria and Iran. Syrian Ambassador to Lebanon Ali Abdul-Karim Ali, quoted at al-Ahd, a Hezbollah-run news website, contended that his nation could make “a surprise decision to respond to the aggression of the Israeli warplanes,” adding that ”Syria is engaged in defending its sovereignty and its land.” In Iran, a deputy foreign minister was quoted by English-language Press TV as saying the “strike on Syria will have serious consequences for Tel Aviv.” He did not elaborate.

Hezbollah condemned the attack as “barbaric aggression,” expressed its “full solidarity with Syria’s command, army and people,” and claimed the strike was aimed at preventing Muslim and Arab forces from furthering their military development. Syria continued to insist that a “scientific research facility” in Jamraya, ten miles from the Lebanon border, was attacked.

Russia, which has consistently supported Assad’s murderous regime despite a current death toll of more than 60,000, also expressed its condemnation of the attack, saying it was engaged in “urgent measures to clarify the situation in all its details.” ”If this information is confirmed, then we are dealing with unprovoked attacks on targets on the territory of a sovereign country, which blatantly violates the UN Charter and is unacceptable, no matter the motives to justify it,” the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement. The Arab League also chimed in, calling the attack “flagrant aggression and a glaring violation” of Syria’s sovereignty.

Israel’s goals are simple: they are not about to let the ongoing disintegration of Bashar Assad’s government and the subsequent chaos threaten their existence, even as they remain well aware of the reality that Western powers currently have little interest doing anything concrete to help. Last Monday, when Netanyahu was meeting with a three-member bipartisan congressional delegation, warning them that the  available policy choices for dealing with Syria “are between bad, bad, and worse,” the New Republic published an interview with President Obama who managed to turn reality into a philosophical exercise wondering, “how do I weigh tens of thousands who’ve been killed in Syria versus the tens of thousands who are currently being killed in the Congo?”

The IDF has made it clear: any threat to Israel’s existence will be handled with whatever measures are deemed necessary. There is no clearer “red line” than that.

All these unprecedented military exercises in our urban areas, are they even legal?*
Someone like you and me, a concerned (sovereign) citizen of the USA, took the bull by the horns to collect and collate the published accounts of them.
They are so pervasive that it looks less and less like training exercises for the purpose of letting our military become familiar with operating in urban areas overseas. It has begun, by the signature of the behaviors themselves, to seem more and more like exercises for the following purposes.
To:
  1. Make actual military operations within the United States seem more “normal” to our own, patriotically motivated military personnel.
  2. Familiarize our military of the ins and outs of operations specific to each “urban zone” city in our nation.
  3. Condition American citizens to the “new normal” of our military operating for the sake of authoritarian government, against our people (especially patriot activists) who may be labeled “suspected terrorists” – by fiat, without our 4th and 14th Amendment rights, of protection against unreasonable search and seizure, of habeas corpus, and due process overall (see NDAA 2012 and 2013 and these reports in Gulag Bound: A, B, C).
  4. Prepare for massive firearm confiscations and the resultant resistance from the actually patriotic Americans, ready, willing, and able to obey the mandate of the Declaration of Independence and the purpose of the 2nd Amendment: to if necessary, “throw off” government which has become “despotism,” by means of free, “well regulated militias.”
  5. Provoke our freely armed patriots who heed the stern mandate of our Declaration and Constitution as referred in #4, to be engaged in free, well-regulated militias (and/or, whatever few kooks are really out there) into taking action which could become, in turn, actionable by national or nationalized, anti-American forces (see Waco, Ruby Ridge, etc.).
  6. Could this be, too? To do #5 as a actual pretext for further false-flag attacks, which would give Obamunist/NWO led forces pretext for martial law. (We have written about false-flag ploys, here.)
  7. Test for repercussions and blow-back in general, right down to this article.

And to confirm just how it looks, those military exercises are, in at least some cases, being made jointly with police forces.

They (our government) do purport something about a reason for some of this. They say it is for disaster preparation, nuclear war, for example – even as they target as “suspected terrorists”  those “preppers” who prepare for disasters.  “Go figure.”
So now, We the People have to do just that: go to the information and figure out what it means, together.
Here is the list in Facebook, compiled by my new friend, Nanette White, who publishes Michigan’s News & Views. Below it, we re-publish the Gary Franchi interview with Dr. Jim Garrow, of January 23rd, which attests to key military officers being asked whether or not they will fire on U.S. Citizens who refuse to give up their firearms.

In his February 1 column, Dr. Steven Lambert reprinted in part a section of testimony that was given before the House of Representatives in 1963; this cited 45 declared goals the Communist Party in America had in their strategy for taking the country over. The entire reprint is available in several places online, so I won’t use up space to include them here.

What’s chilling is that while reading them, it quickly becomes apparent that most of the 45 goals have been achieved, in whole or in part, and they are well on the way to realizing those that have not. Given the stated goals of compromising the press and their practice of obscuring their own political roots and motives with semantics (i.e., changing labels such as “liberal,” “progressive,” and so forth), it becomes easier to understand how millions of Americans – perhaps a majority – have no idea whatsoever of what is transpiring. A majority of those to the right of center, who most definitely perceive the symptoms of the malady, are unable to make an accurate diagnosis of the

Indeed, it is a plan more ambitious than anything that was accomplished in Europe, whereby prosperous market economies and democracies were transformed into democratic socialist states. No, this will be more along the lines of what occurred in Russia or China, except that in the US, the radicals will have gained control of the infrastructure prior to seizing total power. I have already stated that there will be a bloodbath as this occurs.

Israeli Airstrikes In Syria Hit 'Multiple Sites' Including Biological Weapons

More and more news are coming out relating to Israel's attack on weapons facilities. It now appears that several sites may have been hit including a biological weapon facility:

Syria on Wednesday publicly accused Israel of striking a scientific research center northwest of Damascus, denying reports that the strike had targeted a suspected shipment ofanti-aircraft missiles en route to Hezbollah in Lebanon. The description of the military research center that Syria claimed the IAF jets targeted fits the definition of Syria’s Scientific Studies and Research Center, which has been labeled a state organization responsible for developing biological and chemical weapons and transferring them to Hezbollah and Hamas.

Time quoted a Western intelligence official as saying that the IAF had targeted at least one or two more targets overnight Tuesday and that the US has given Israel a green light to carry out additional strikes.

In air raids on Syria overnight Tuesday, Israeli jets targeted several sites, including a biological weapons research center, which hadn’t previously been mentioned in the media,

The center was “flattened out of concern that it might fall into the hands of Islamist extremists fighting to topple the government of Syrian President Bashar Assad,” the report said, quoting Western intelligence officials.

Regarding the strike at Jamarya, the magazine added new details: “Among the buildings leveled at the military complex at Jamarya, outside Damascus, were warehouses stocked with equipment necessary for the deployment of chemical and biological weapons, relatively complicated systems typically manned by specially trained forces,” it said.

The biological warfare labs were considered to be of particular concern — in part because of the grave damage small amounts of biological agents can cause, and also due to the stated interest in such weapons by terror groups, namely Osama bin Laden’s successor as head of al-Qaeda, Ayman al-Zawahiri.

On Friday, meanwhile, the Lebanese National News Agency claimed that Israeli jets flew low over southern Lebanon — Hezbollah’s stronghold — and carried out “mock raids.” The government outlets said that its correspondents reported Israeli planes flying over the southern Lebanese towns of Nabatieh, Tuffah, Marjayoun and Bint Jbeil.

A former Syrian general said Friday that the facility reportedly struck by Israel on Wednesday, near Damascus, produced non-conventional weapons, in addition to conventional arms.
Maj. Gen. Adnan Sillu was previously in charge of the country’s chemical weapons training program.

Maj. Gen. Abdul-Aziz Jassem al-Shallal also said Thursday that Iranian and Russian experts were “habitually present” at the facility.
Both Sillu and al-Shallal defected to the ranks of the Syrian rebels last year.

Syrian Army Chief of Staff General Ali Abdullah Ayoub told troops on Thursday that the war with Israel is ongoing and will never end, according to state news agency SANA.

On Thursday, Iran threatened Israel over the reported strike.
“The Israeli regime’s strike on Syria will have serious consequences for Tel Aviv,” one of Tehran’s deputy foreign ministers was quoted by the semi-official PressTV network as saying.
Iran is a major backer of both Syrian President Bashar Assad and Lebanon-based Hezbollah.

Israel Air Force jets on Friday night flew low over southern Lebanon and carried out “mock raids,” Lebanese National News Agency reported.
The government outlet said that Israel planes were reported by its correspondents over the southern Lebanese towns of Nabatieh, Tuffah, Marjayoun and Bint Jbeil.

Earlier on Friday, a Lebanese security official reported that Israeli warplanes flew over southern Lebanon and were headed toward the eastern Bekaa Valley that borders Syria. He spoke on condition of anonymity in line with regulations.
Israel Radio Friday cited a Lebanese media report that claimed Israeli jets were conducting imaging missions over several sites in the south.
