A Russian lawmaker suggested the country launch a pre-emptive missile attack on Alaska in a television segment that surfaced just as Senator Lindsey Graham appeared to say Russian deaths from United States’ funding to Ukraine was “the best money we’ve ever spent.”
Duma Deputy Andrey Gurulyov said there were missiles stationed near the US “quite capable of scouring Alaska to the ground,” and that Russia should move with them instead of waiting for aggression from its enemies to attack.
“We have a strategic nuclear force that holds America’s territory. Let me remind you, there’s Alaska across the strait,” he said, before listing off a number of different types of missiles Russia had at the ready. “It doesn’t take much, a couple of brigades will suffice,” he added.
NATO Will Hold Its Biggest Air Exercise In History This Summer
The exercise is known as Air Defender 2023 and will be a massive training opportunity and show of force as war rages in Ukraine.
The largest NATO air exercise since the alliance’s founding in 1949 will be taking place this summer, and the U.S. Air National Guard (ANG) will be providing nearly half of the airpower slated to participate. As for how that show of force may be perceived by global threats like Russia as war rages on in Ukraine, senior ANG officials have said they can “take away whatever message they want.”
Both AD23 and Defender 23 come as the conflict in Ukraine drags on, over a year after Russia’s full-scale invasion of the country in February of 2022. The war has led many countries, namely those that share the same continent with Russia, to make notable efforts to overhaul their militaries, bolster training and readiness, reevaluate their national defense strategies, and increase their budgets to up weapons procurement and modernization.
Russian Armed Forces Able to Respond to Training of Ukrainian Pilots to Fly F-16 - Lavrov
The Russian armed forces have the ability to respond to the intention of Western countries to train Ukrainian pilots to fly F-16 fighter jets, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said on Monday.
"As for Denmark and the Netherlands and their intention to be at the forefront of those who train Ukrainian pilots on Western aircraft, well, there is, first of all, a desire to please the hegemon. These countries are actively pursuing Washington’s line in European affairs. As for our reaction, I have no doubt that our armed forces have the ability to respond to this," Lavrov told reporters during his visit to Kenya.
