A 164-year-old historic church in Leicester, UK "caught fire" this week, leaving its roof severely damaged while officials initially described the cause as unknown.

Firefighters battled a large blaze at St Andrew's Church on Jarrom Street through the night after multiple calls came in just after 11pm on Tuesday. A coffin containing a body prepared for a funeral service the next morning was rescued from the sanctuary. No one was injured.

The church, built in 1862 and designed by Sir George Gilbert Scott, is an Anglo-Catholic parish known for its patterned red brick and historic significance. The fire started on the ground floor and spread to the roof.

Lord Mayor Kulwinder Singh Johal, later posted that he was "heartbroken" by the "devastating fire," describing the landmark as cherished and extending gratitude to the fire crews while offering support to the congregation.

This latest incident in the UK sits against a backdrop of repeated church fires that have drawn limited official attention compared with other religious sites.

In February, the historic Kings Hall Methodist Church in Southall, West London, burned to the ground in a massive overnight blaze that required more than ten fire engines and around 70 firefighters. New figures from Spain's Department of National Security indicate that 49,000 people illegally entered the Spanish enclave of Ceuta within 24 hours, according to Reuters.

For context, Ceuta has only about 84,000 residents, meaning the invasion is equivalent to nearly 60% of its population.

The invasion of tens of thousands, in what only appears to be large numbers of military-aged men traveling without food, shelter, baggage, or money, is difficult to explain as spontaneous migration alone.

At minimum, it suggests organized and deliberate, with high amounts of coordination on the Moroccan side.

Morocco didn’t send 40,000 of its own people into Ceuta and Melilla all at once, with no food or shelter, by accident. They are using their people to take over Ceuta and Melilla. Now they are breaking in homes, looting, and setting fires, while the people living there are helpless. Pedro Sánchez has still refused to declare an emergency.

The immediate effect is to overwhelm Ceuta's border security, law enforcement, housing, and humanitarian capacity. If state-enabled, the operation would fit what can only be described as hybrid or asymmetric warfare: weaponizing migration and civilian populations to impose political pressure while preserving plausible deniability.

Earlier this year, Spain's socialist Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez dismissed criticism from Elon Musk and others over his open border globalist policies. His government subsequently granted amnesty to illegal aliens, with Sánchez declaring: "Spain is a welcoming country, and this is the path we choose."

The invasion of military-aged Moroccan men that is overwhelming local security and humanitarian services will intensify criticism of Sánchez's unhinged left-wing immigration policies and raise concerns about national security. This will strengthen support among common-sense right-wing politicians across Europe who have been pushing for closed borders.

Riots erupted in Ceuta as migrants clashed with security forces thoughout the night. There were reports of damage to private property, vehicles being set on fire, businesses being looted, and homes being illegally occupied.

"In the face of the massive and coordinated influx of migrants into Spain — encouraged by the Spanish government — France must immediately strengthen its border controls," Marine Le Pen of France's right-wing National Rally wrote on X.

Italy's right-wing Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni said her country was prepared "to intervene with extraordinary measures to defend the borders and the safety of citizens, including the suspension of the Schengen Area with Spain."

"The images coming from Ceuta show how the Madrid Government's decision to grant Spanish, and therefore European, citizenship to over 500,000 irregular immigrants is profoundly wrong and encourages human trafficking," Italy's Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani wrote.

The emerging news cycle across the West could very well frame the crisis as a predictable result of the socialists' "suicidal empathy" and nation-killing open border policies. The footage alone could sway undecided voters regarding the consequences of open borders. In the US, Trump and the GOP will almost certainly use the footage against the Democratic Socialists of America and the broader far-left movement, portraying their immigration agenda as an effort to dismantle national borders and linking it directly to the policies pursued under the Biden-Harris regime.

President Donald Trump has now used one of the Bible's most prophetically charged phrases twice in connection with his efforts to reshape the Middle East.

After announcing a preliminary agreement with Iran in June, Trump wrote, "This Great Deal will bring Peace and Security to the whole Region." Regional hostilities subsequently resumed, demonstrating how quickly sweeping declarations of peace can outrun events on the ground.

Now Trump has announced what he calls a historic agreement for the complete disarmament of Hamas and every other armed group in Gaza.

"This is a monumental step toward lasting PEACE and SECURITY," Trump declared. 

For students of Bible prophecy, those words immediately recall the warning of 1 Thessalonians 5:3:

"For when they shall say, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction cometh upon them."

That does not mean Trump's agreement fulfills this passage. Christians should not force every peace initiative into a prophetic timetable. But Scripture repeatedly warns that the most dangerous moment may come when the world believes Israel's enemies have finally been contained.

Trump describes the agreement as a milestone in implementing his existing 20-point Gaza plan. Hamas and other terrorist groups would surrender their weapons in phases, Israel would withdraw as disarmament progresses, international forces would enter Gaza, and a technocratic Palestinian government would assume control.

Yet the details are less reassuring than the headline.

Hamas has made implementation conditional upon Israel fulfilling its obligations. Other accounts describe weapons being catalogued, stored or transferred to a Palestinian body rather than immediately destroyed under Israeli supervision. 

There is a vast difference between destroying Hamas's weapons and storing them. There is also a difference between dismantling Hamas and moving its fighters into a new Palestinian police force.

Hamas has floated a ten-year truce in which its weapons could be frozen while it retained what it calls the Palestinian "right to resist."

That may not be disarmament.

It may be strategic patience.

Ten years would give Gaza time to rebuild. It could also give Hamas time to restore its influence inside schools, mosques, charities, political organizations and security institutions.

Can An Ideology Be Disarmed?

Even if every rocket and rifle were collected tomorrow, the ideology that produced October 7 would remain.

Hamas is not merely an army. It is an Islamist movement whose influence reaches into religion, education, media, social services and government.

Weapons can be confiscated. Tunnels can be demolished. Commanders can be eliminated.

But an ideology must be defeated.

Any new Palestinian administration would have to reject Hamas's theology of violence, condemn the atrocities of October 7, remove terrorist indoctrination from schools and prevent Hamas operatives from controlling the police and civil service.

Otherwise, Hamas could disappear as an official government while remaining the power behind it.

For Israel, peace must mean that another October 7 can never happen.

This multinational structure also carries a striking prophetic parallel.

Daniel 9:27 says a coming ruler will "confirm a covenant with many" for one week, commonly understood by many prophecy scholars as a period of seven years.

The Hebrew wording translated "confirm" can carry the sense of making something strong, enforcing it or causing it to prevail. That leaves open an important possibility: the coming ruler may not necessarily create an entirely new treaty. He could strengthen, guarantee or impose an arrangement already in existence. Different translations render the expression as confirming, strengthening or making a firm covenant.

That is significant because Trump is not presenting the Hamas announcement as a completely new peace plan. He calls it a major milestone in implementing the 20-point framework that was already established.

This is not Daniel's covenant as there are too many missing pieces.

But the pattern is instructive.

An existing agreement is elevated by a powerful leader, supported by numerous nations, protected by international forces and presented as the answer to Israel's security crisis.

Revelation 17 adds another dimension. It describes ten kings who receive authority with the beast and then surrender their power and authority to him. 

Israel Dwelling Securely

Ezekiel 38 describes Israel living securely before the great invasion associated with Gog and Magog.

The present agreement does not mean Ezekiel's war is imminent. But it helps us imagine how the conditions could eventually arise.

Hamas is declared disarmed. International troops enter Gaza. Israeli soldiers withdraw. Foreign governments guarantee the agreement. Billions of dollars pour into reconstruction. World leaders announce that the threat has finally disappeared.

The danger is Israesl becomes convinced its enemies have been permanently contained.

October 7 demonstrated what can happen when deterrence, advanced technology and assumptions about an enemy's intentions create a false sense of security.

Daniel 8:25 provides another sobering parallel. It describes a coming ruler who, in the King James wording, "by peace shall destroy many."

His weapon is not only military force. It is deception operating under the appearance of security.

Jeremiah similarly warned of leaders crying, "Peace, peace," when there was no peace. Ezekiel condemned false prophets who promised peace while covering a dangerously unstable wall with whitewash.

The biblical pattern is clear: peace built upon deception eventually collapses.

The death toll from the magnitude 7.1 earthquake that struck Japan’s Kumamoto Prefecture on July 28 has risen to 34 as of July 30, 2026. At least 123 people have been injured, while more than 267 000 residents remain under evacuation orders as authorities continue emergency response operations across the affected region.

The earthquake struck at 16:27 JST on July 28, reaching the maximum Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) seismic intensity of 7 in the municipalities of Uki City and Hikawa Town in Kumamoto Prefecture.

A tsunami advisory was issued for the Ariake and Yatsushiro Seas two minutes later before being lifted at 18:10 JST. Several strong aftershocks followed, including tremors reaching Shindo 5 Lower, affecting multiple municipalities across Kumamoto Prefecture.

According to the FDMA, all 34 confirmed fatalities have been reported in Kumamoto Prefecture. The agency’s confirmed 11 deaths in Yatsushiro City, 7 in Kamiamakusa City, 4 in Hikawa Town, 2 in Uki City, 1 in Kosa Town, and 9 additional deaths that remain under investigation.

Authorities also reported 123 injuries, including 5 serious injuries and 84 minor injuries, while 89 people required medical treatment.

Officials confirmed one house was destroyed, another suffered partial collapse, and several buildings experienced flooding or other damage.

Emergency responders continue to deal with isolated incidents, including a collapsed factory chimney in Yatsushiro City and the partial collapse of the second floor of a commercial building in Kamiamakusa City. Authorities reported no damage to critical infrastructure facilities.

Kumamoto Prefecture has issued emergency safety measures covering 46 610 households (92 743 people) and evacuation orders affecting 127 647 households, or approximately 267 285 people. Disaster response headquarters remain active in Kumamoto and neighboring Nagasaki prefecture.

Saudi Arabia announced the launch of a multinational defense coalition Thursday to protect commercial shipping and energy routes in the Red Sea, Gulf of Aden and Bab al-Mandab Strait.

Al Arabiya reported that the initiative was unveiled after a meeting in Riyadh that brought together representatives from 43 countries and the European Union.

"The extensive participation reflects growing international interest in strengthening maritime defense cooperation and underscoring the importance of unifying efforts to address shared threats to the security of international sea lanes within the alliance's designated area of responsibility," the state-run Saudi News Agency reported.

The move comes as the conflict between the United States and Iran has increasingly centered on the Strait of Hormuz. Recent disruptions to the strategic waterway, which carried about 20% of worldwide oil and gas exports, are weighing heavily on the global economy.

Bab al-Mandab Strait, which connects the Red Sea to the Gulf of Aden and the Indian Ocean, is considered one of the world's most important strategic waterways, through which about 12% of the global energy trade passes.

The passage is at the southernmost point of the Arabian Peninsula and is the main route for ships traveling through the Red Sea to the Suez Canal.

In a recent escalation, the Red Sea-Bab al-Mandab-Gulf of Aden shipping corridor has come under repeated attacks by Iranian-backed Houthi terrorists in Yemen.

Participants at the meeting reviewed escalating threats to maritime security, including attacks on commercial vessels, energy tankers and critical maritime infrastructure, the Saudi Gazette reported. They warned that such incidents pose risks to freedom of navigation, global supply chains and the international economy.

The meeting also examined the proposed charter for the alliance, its governance framework, organizational structure, command-and-control arrangements, operating mechanisms, and implementation plans.

Delegates also discussed foundational arrangements for the alliance, including Saudi Arabia's role as the founding nation, its leadership of the initiative and its hosting of the alliance's headquarters. The participants said the arrangement reflects international confidence in the kingdom's role in promoting collective maritime security.

Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Bahrain, Qatar, Pakistan, Turkey, Egypt, Jordan, Yemen, Bangladesh, Nigeria, Sudan, Djibouti and Somalia were among those who signed a joint statement supporting the establishment of the coalition, according to the Saudi News Agency.

Lt. Gen. Joseph Clearfield, commander of the U.S. Marine Forces Central Command, and the defense attache at the U.S. Embassy in Riyadh represented the United States at the meeting, according to Al Arabiya.

It is unclear what role, if any, the United States will have in the coalition.
