A powerful earthquake struck off Japan’s northern coast on Thursday, but there was no danger of a tsunami, the country’s meteorological agency said.

The quake had a preliminary magnitude of 6.9 and occurred off the eastern coast of Iwate, the Japan Meteorological Agency said. The quake had a depth of about 50 kilometers (30 miles), it said. The U.S. Geological Survey also reported a magnitude of 6.9.

The rattling occurred in the area where strong earthquakes have repeatedly been reported in recent months.

The quake, which struck Japan’s northeastern region during Thursday’s morning rush hour, also mildly shook Tokyo, but there were no immediate reports of injuries or damages.

Japan, which sits on the structure known as the Pacific Ring of Fire, is one of the world’s most earthquake-prone areas.

A strong 6.9-magnitude earthquake struck off the coast of northern Japan on Thursday morning, shaking parts of the country's northeastern region. According to the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA), the earthquake occurred at 7:30 AM JST on June 25 off the coast of Iwate Prefecture. The quake had a depth of approximately 50 kilometers (31 miles).

Tremors were felt across several areas in northern Japan, including Aomori Prefecture, as residents reported noticeable shaking.

The JMA measured the earthquake at magnitude 6.9 and said the epicenter was located offshore in the Pacific Ocean east of Iwate Prefecture.

Authorities are continuing to assess the situation while monitoring for possible aftershocks.

A strong earthquake shook Venezuela on Wednesday, swaying buildings in the capital city of Caracas

The U.S. Geological Survey reported a 7.1 magnitude with the epicenter about 17 miles west of the community of Morón, located along the country’s Caribbean coast. It had a depth of 13 kilometers.

People evacuated swaying buildings and homes in the capital, Caracas.

Panic as earthquake (5.6m) triggers warnings across three US states to 'drop and cover'

Panic as earthquake triggers warnings across three US states to 'drop and cover'

A strong earthquake has struck the US West Coast, triggering urgent warnings for millions to shelter in place during the seismic shockwaves.

The US Geological Survey said a magnitude 5.6 quake erupted in Northern California at 11.10am ET on Wednesday, marking the strongest tremor since 1940.

While the strongest shaking was reported right at the quake's epicenter near Redwood Valley, the tremors traveled more than 600 miles up and down the West Coast, reaching Coos Bay, Oregon in the north and Salinas, California in the south and parts of western Nevada.

A security camera inside the home of a Kelseyville resident, about 40 miles east of the epicenter, captured the moment his home began to shake that lasted for about 30 minutes.

The footage shows framed photos falling off the walls and a computer monitor tipping over.

Power outages are affecting more than 6,000 residents of six towns near the epicenter, the office said in a statement, and encouraged people to stay off the highways and roads to allow work crews to inspect for damage and make repairs.

Moneca Vargas at Saint Mary's Catholic School in Ukiah told KTVU: 'That was the biggest earthquake I have felt in my life, and I’ve lived in Ukiah for most of my 54 years. My whole house shook.'

ther residents close to the source in Northern California compared the shockwaves to a 'freight train' rolling through their homes, causing items to fall from shelves and officials to sound the official earthquake alert system for quakes stronger than magnitude 4.5.

While the shockwaves reached level seven in certain areas, meaning 'very strong' shaking and moderate damage, according to USGS, there have been no reports of injuries at this time.

Since the initial quake, over six aftershocks have been recorded in less than two hours, all measuring stronger than magnitude 2.0.

USGS has warned that there is a nearly 90 percent chance of another earthquake stronger than magnitude 3.0 erupting in the region over the next week.

The epicenter of Wednesday's earthquake was recorded within seven miles of the Maacama Fault zone.

Making the fault even more of a concern to locals is the fact that it is part of the larger San Andreas Fault system, the infamous 800-mile-long fault running through much of California.

Trump Sets 2028 Goal For U.S. Quantum Computing Breakthrough

Trump Sets 2028 Goal For U.S. Quantum Computing Breakthrough

President Donald Trump signed two executive orders aimed at accelerating quantum computing development, strengthening cybersecurity and positioning the United States as the global leader in the emerging technology.

President Donald Trump signed two executive orders June 22 to speed development of quantum computing technology and strengthen U.S. defenses against future cyber threats posed by quantum systems.

The orders set ambitious federal goals for the emerging industry, including the development of the world’s first quantum computer capable of supporting advanced scientific research by 2028.

One order, titled “Ushering in the Next Frontier of Quantum Innovation,” directs the federal government to help accelerate growth in quantum computing, build domestic supply chains and prepare a workforce capable of supporting the field as it expands.

Michael Kratsios, director of the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy, said the administration views quantum development as central to economic growth, scientific advancement and national security.

“These policies will drive transformational growth in existing and entirely new industries, and manufacturing, drug discovery, energy, agriculture, and more,” Kratsios said during a Monday briefing call with reporters.

“Quantum breakthroughs mean innovation, economic growth, national security that will benefit the American people for decades to come,” he said.

The order instructs the departments of Commerce, War and Energy, along with NASA, to prepare blueprints for broad deployment of quantum networks within five years. The administration said those networks would support future uses of quantum technology across research, industry and national defense.

The order also places new emphasis on domestic industrial capacity, calling for stronger supply chains and workforce development as the United States competes with foreign rivals in the quantum sector.

Sanhedrin to America: The Iran deal is a fantasy, and it will cost you everything

Sanhedrin to America: The Iran deal is a fantasy, and it will cost you everything

On 7 Tammuz 5786, June 23, 2026, the nascent Sanhedrin, the Jewish court reconstituted in Israel after a 1,600-year absence, issued a formal ruling addressed to the American people, warning that the US-Iran memorandum of understanding signed in Switzerland is built on illusion and places the United States in existential danger. The court opened its declaration with the ancient Aramaic legal formula bemutav beit dina ke-ḥada havina — “we were convened together as a single court” — a phrase that signals the ruling carries the full weight of a properly constituted rabbinic tribunal. The message: America is making one of the greatest strategic miscalculations in its history.

President Trump and Iran declared they had reached an initial agreement intended to end more than three months of war and reopen the Strait of Hormuz. The deal, signed in Switzerland, was described by Trump as complete: “The Deal with the Islamic Republic of Iran is now complete. Congratulations to all!”

The initial pact, a memorandum of understanding, starts with reopening the Strait of Hormuz, a choke point for nearly one-fifth of the world’s oil supply. The deal on the table includes Iran’s commitment to halt enrichment and dismantle its nuclear sites, but the length of any pause remains a point of disagreement; the United States is reportedly pushing for twenty years while Iran reportedly will not go above ten. Iran’s state news agency made Iran’s position plain: it would negotiate on the nuclear issue solely within the framework of its “fundamental principles” and would not give up enrichment.

The Sanhedrin is unimpressed.

The court’s statement opens with an unusual cultural analysis. Every civilization, it argues, has a single defining characteristic. The Greeks prized man; the Romans, power; the Germans, intellect; the Indians, spirituality; the French, sexuality. Americans, says the Sanhedrin, are defined by imagination — and it was imagination that gave the world Disneyland, Disney World, and Star Wars. The court does not mean this as a compliment. It means that the same faculty that generates great entertainment also drives American foreign policy, and that in the arena of geopolitics, fantasy kills.

The court then lays out its indictment of the Iranian regime, point by point. It notes that Iran has murdered more than 50,000 of its own citizens since the Islamic Revolution, executed at least 1,639 people in 2025 alone, a 68 percent increase over 2024, with an average of roughly four hangings per day, including 48 women. UN experts described the pace as “industrial scale” that “defies all accepted standards of human rights protection.”

The regime has invested hundreds of billions in ballistic missiles and a nuclear program, and as of May 2025 possessed over 400 kilograms of uranium enriched to 60 percent purity. It has poured hundreds of billions more into proxy forces — Hamas, Hezbollah, the Houthis — specifically to export terror. At every mass assembly its leadership chants “Death to America” and “Death to Israel.”

The Sanhedrin’s question, stripped of all diplomatic language, is this: what rational observer looks at that record and concludes that a trillion dollars in oil revenue, unfrozen assets, reconstruction funds, and payments for access to the Strait of Hormuz will suddenly be redirected toward tourism, factories, and civilian construction?

The Bible long ago described the peril of trusting a sworn enemy. As the prophet Jeremiah warned: “They have healed the wound of My people lightly, saying ‘Peace, peace,’ when there is no peace” (Jeremiah 6:14). The Sages understood that a peace proclaimed by the wicked is not peace — it is a temporary repositioning before the next assault.

The Wider Danger

The Sanhedrin does not limit its concern to the Iranian threat alone. The court warns that China, Russia, and North Korea are watching American decision-making with interest, and what they see is weakness. Experts have cautioned that the MOU leaves many of the most challenging issues unresolved, noting, “We have been here before only to discover the parties cannot bridge the remaining gaps.” The court’s warning is that adversaries do not see an administration making a hard deal; they see an administration buying an illusion and calling it a victory.

The court further warns that the imaginary peace carries an internal American dimension. It predicts that armed militia groups operating within the United States will see the instability created by this agreement as a signal to act, triggering what the Sanhedrin calls milḥemet Yom HaDin, the War of the Day of Judgment, a civil reckoning.
