It is significant, I think, that there is suddenly increased talk among the Jewish religious hierarchy about building a temple in Jerusalem.

We learn of this in the following:

The nascent Sanhedrin issued a formal ruling this week, asking the Holy One, Blessed be He, to remove hostile forces from the Jewish people and the Land of Israel, reveal the Mashiach (Messiah), rebuild the Beit HaMikdash (Holy Temple), and restore prophecy to Israel. The written ruling, dated 6 Menachem Av, 5786, follows a session the court’s members described as several hours long, during which two of the judges argued against moving forward before ultimately joining the majority. The observation of this development by those who are truly watchers on the wall is far different from most who view this.

The Jewish people who observe Judaism generally believe this is an answer to the long-echoed call, “Next year in Jerusalem!” By this, it’s meant that there is great hope that the construction of a third temple will begin as soon as possible. This is the genuine longing by all who believe their Messiah must soon come to enter that future temple and bring peace and prosperity to all of Israel.

Of course, secular Jews have several thoughts about this. The primary thinking is that it really makes no difference one way or the other. A second thought is that a temple would be nice as a tourist attraction. A third thought is wrapped in tremendous fear that building such an edifice would bring an even greater hatred, and possibly war, from all of Israel’s surrounding enemies–and increased hatred by the rest of the world.

Many Jewish people fear that the title “God’s chosen people” is a primary reason for the world’s long history of anti-Semitism. And they’re probably right.

The third temple will undoubtedly be built—no question about it. But it will not be cherished by Jewish people in Israel or around the world.

It won’t benefit any people anywhere in the world because it will not be the Jewish Messiah who enters and occupies this Temple on Moriah. Instead, it will be the one God’s Word calls “the man of sin” and “the son of perdition.”

This, of course, will be Antichrist, a false messiah who will promise a false peace. He will instead bring the most terrible time of all history to the world (Matthew 24: 21).

A third temple will be built at a future time, Bible prophecy says. Solomon built the first one, which Nebuchadnezzar destroyed in 587 BC.

The second temple was built following Israel’s Babylonian captivity. It lasted from 516 BC to AD 70. It became known as Herod’s Temple when the king commissioned it to be greatly expanded and beautified to the extent that it was considered magnificent by those who looked upon it.

This temple was destroyed by the Roman military in AD 70, when Roman Emperor Vespasian sent his son, General Titus, to put down insurrection in Jerusalem. This was a fulfillment of Daniel’s prophecy in Daniel 9:26–27 and of Jesus’ words in Matthew 24:1-2.

The third temple is said to be in place during the last seven years of human history prior to Christ’s return. Daniel prophesied about Antichrist: “In the midst of the week he shall cause the sacrifice and the oblation to cease” (Daniel 9:27b). This last, most vicious tyrant will enter the third temple and desecrate it.

Paul the apostle says of that future temple and Antichrist:

Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God. (2 Thessalonians 2:4)

So, all the information coming from the Jewish hierarchy is Tribulation temple talk; there’s no other way to describe this news from the Israeli Sanhedrin.

All this means that Israel’s real Messiah, the Lord Jesus Christ, is poised to call God’s family—all born-again believers—into the clouds of Glory.

Following the Rapture of the Church, the Tribulation will begin with Israel signing the covenant of false peace offered by the one who will become Antichrist (Daniel 9:27).

Seven years later, Israel’s True Messiah, Jesus Himself, will enter a supernaturally created Temple atop Mount Zion in Jerusalem, from which He will rule and reign for one thousand years. This will be the Millennium, during which supernatural saints—those who return with Jesus—will be given assignments within the governance of King Jesus!

Believe in Christ today—for today, at this moment, is the only time promised. Tomorrow it might be too late.

For the scripture saith, whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed. For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him. For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. (Romans 10:11–13)

Officials from a country in the Middle East advised another regional country to pretend to make peace with Israel in order to prepare for a larger war against it, Channel 12 Newsand state broadcaster Kan News reported on Monday, after the IDF military censor approved the publication.

According to Kan, the censor did not allow the two countries to be identified. Officials from one country reportedly advised the other to “tactically compromise” and make an agreement with Israel to “lull it to sleep” while preparing its forces for a larger confrontation with Israel.

The officials explicitly pointed to a similar approach taken by slain Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar, the report said, who signaled that he was interested in “quiet in exchange for quiet” during the preparations for the Oct. 7, 2023, massacre.

Kan’s Arab Affairs Correspondent Roi Kais, who authored the report, commented on it by noting that “in one month, it will be exactly six years since the historic Abraham Accords – agreements that included the UAE as the pioneer, followed by Bahrain, Sudan, whose normalization process stalled, and Morocco.”

“The expansion of the Abraham Accords and normalization with Israel remain very much on the table, even if not in the immediate future. As U.S. President Donald Trump looks ahead to the second half of his final term, he wants to leave behind a legacy as the president who brought peace to the region.”

Without explicitly tying the countries to the report, Kais said that “Saudi Arabia is obviously the crown jewel, but it is not the only one. The Americans are also working in the direction of Syria and Lebanon.”

Israel Hayom’s political correspondent, Ariel Kahana, commented, “Because I don't currently know which countries are involved, I feel comfortable – and am permitted – to speculate that Turkey is the one giving the advice and Syria is the one receiving it.”

“The ideologies of Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan toward Israel are essentially identical. Al-Sharaa is not afraid of war and bloodshed. He is also currently engaged in negotiations with Israel and is being asked to make concessions, including by the Americans, to reach an agreement… it stands to reason that the axis behind the reported advice is between Ankara and Damascus.”

Kais compared the situation to “the Treaty of Hudaybiyyah, which according to Islamic tradition was the ten-year truce that the Prophet Muhammad concluded with members of the Quraysh tribe, who controlled the city of Mecca. He broke that agreement after two years, when he felt better prepared for war.”

“This is also the agreement that Palestinian Authority and PLO Chairman Yasser Arafat once invoked to explain to his opponents the rationale behind pursuing an agreement with Israel,” Kais noted.

In one of the first official reactions to the report, National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir wrote on 𝕏 that “anyone who thought we could entrust the security of our sons to agreements and guarantees from those around us received a painful slap in the face this morning.”

In another comment on the report, conservative intellectual Ran Baratz questioned the behavior of the military censor, which has often been criticized for its decision-making by Israeli media.

“If the censorship approves for publication that there is a country in the region that told another country to make with Israel something like the Hudaybiyyah agreement, there is no reason not to publish the names,” Baratz argued.

“After all, the countries in question know who they are. So why shouldn't the Israeli citizen know? Because the censorship thinks its role is to determine what the Israeli citizen needs and doesn't need to know, based on its own systemic considerations. The censorship in Israel has long ceased to safeguard security, but rather the interests of the security system,” he charged.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy says up to 50,000 North Korean soldiers are on their way to Russia.

North Korea has already sent soldiers, missiles and ammunition to Russia earlier in the war, in exchange for financial support and military technology, among other things.

"At first we talked about hundreds, then thousands, and now a decision has been made to deploy between 30,000 and 50,000 North Koreans on Russian territory," Zelenskyy wrote in a post on X.

He further claims that one of North Korea's aims is to gain experience in modern warfare. Zelenskyy warns that North Korea could thus pose a greater threat to countries in its vicinity.

"Therefore, I believe that South Korea should have closer cooperation with Ukraine," the president writes.

Article 9 of Trump's plan called for the creation of an international transitional body, the "Board of Peace," chaired by the U.S. president, to oversee the process of ending the war.

A day before the BoP released its roadmap, Trump announced that an agreement had been reached with Hamas on the terror group's complete disarmament, calling it a "major milestone in the implementation" of his 20-point plan.

Even then, divisions were beginning to emerge. An Israeli source told JNS immediately after the announcement that Jerusalem continued to insist on the full demilitarization of Gaza as a precondition for any broader political process.

"There will be no Israeli withdrawal from the [ceasefire] Yellow Line in the Gaza Strip before Hamas disarms," the source said, adding that Israel had conveyed its objections to aspects of the proposed roadmap through the appropriate channels.

Israeli Settlements and National Missions Minister Orit Strook told JNS in an exclusive interview on Wednesday that the disagreement centers on the roadmap's lack of guarantees regarding Hamas's disarmament, guarantees contained in Trump's original proposal, and its significant differences from that proposal on issues ranging from Gaza's governance to the prospect of establishing a Palestinian state.

Strook emphasized that Trump's original 20-point plan stipulated that all weapons in the Gaza Strip would be removed or destroyed, whereas under the Board of Peace's new roadmap they would instead remain in Palestinian hands.

"All the missiles, weapons, explosives and tunnels will go to this new entity, which is meant to govern in accordance with existing Palestinian law. It will be far worse than the Palestinian Authority, which does not possess such an arsenal," she said.

"This roadmap leads to the creation of an entity that supports killing Jews and conducting terror attacks against Israel and is responsible for all the weapons Hamas still holds. It is an existential threat, and it is a shame," Strook added.

Point 13 of Trump's 20-point plan outlines his vision for a demilitarized Gaza: "All military, terror, and offensive infrastructure, including tunnels and weapon production facilities, will be destroyed and not rebuilt. There will be a process of demilitarization of Gaza under the supervision of independent monitors, which will include placing weapons permanently beyond use through an agreed process of decommissioning, and supported by an internationally funded buy back and reintegration program all verified by the independent monitors."

By contrast, Clause 8 of the BoP plan outlines a potentially lengthy process "to decommission and store heavy weapons, military production sites, depots of weapons, and tunnels," beginning only after the new Palestinian technocratic governing body, the National Committee for the Administration of Gaza, begins operating in Gaza and an International Stabilization Force is deployed.

The "decommissioning" process "shall be administered and implemented by NCAG in a gradual, sequential and time-bound manner" and "shall be linked to an Israeli withdrawal, in phases, from the areas under its control in Gaza," according to the roadmap.

Some undefined "Palestinian factions" are to take part in the process, at the end of which "only NCAG shall hold, store or control weapons in Gaza," rather than destroying them or removing them from the Strip, under the 15-point plan.

The BoP also links Gaza's demilitarization to the creation of "appropriate conditions for a credible pathway towards achieving Palestinian self-determination and statehood."

JNS reached out to the Board of Peace twice for clarification, but had not received a response by press time.

On Aug. 3, four days after Trump's announcement and three days after the BoP plan was released, Israeli officialdom broke its near-uniform silence.

Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich posted on X that "the proposal published by the Board of Peace is not the plan presented to us in the [Security] Cabinet and not what we voted on," referring to the forum's recent decision to allow the deployment of the ISF in Gaza.

The published outline "does not guarantee the real demilitarization of the Gaza Strip; it allows for an IDF withdrawal before the demilitarization is complete; applies the P.A.'s antisemitic laws in the Gaza Strip; changes the designation of the multinational force so that it will, in fact, limit IDF activity; does not condition the reconstruction of Gaza on demilitarization; and even restores the idea of a Palestinian state as a political goal," Smotrich wrote.

"A blueprint that contradicts the war goals and the commitments given to Israel cannot be promoted in Gaza. I will not allow such a plan to erase the tremendous achievements of heroic IDF soldiers, achieved with their blood, body and soul," he added.

The same day, Israeli President Isaac Herzog made clear that the position on disarmament was virtually uniform across the political spectrum, saying implementation of the BoP plan would depend on "the clear caveat and undertaking that Hamas must be disarmed."

Aug. 4, Netanyahu broke his week-long silence on the matter in a video posted to Facebook.

"I am standing firm on our security interests--we will not withdraw from our current lines until Hamas is completely disarmed," he said, adding that IDF soldiers had been instructed "to do everything necessary to defend themselves, to defend our territory, to defend our citizens."

The next day, Netanyahu took aim at another issue in the BoP plan, making clear that Jerusalem would not agree to the establishment of a Palestinian state. He made the remarks at a ceremony in Jerusalem marking the reinterment of the grandparents of Theodor Herzl, the founder of modern Zionism.

A senior source told JNS on Thursday that the Cabinet never voted on Trump's original plan precisely because of widespread opposition to Palestinian statehood.
