A senior Iranian official said that fighting with the US was "likely" to resume after US President Donald Trump said he was dissatisfied with Tehran's new proposal, Iranian media reported on Saturday.

Iran's Fars news agency cited Mohammad Jafar Asadi, a senior figure in the Iranian military's central command, as saying that "a renewed conflict between Iran and the United States is likely."

This comes after Reuters reported that an Iranian proposal rejected by US President Donald Trump would open shipping in the Strait of Hormuz and end the US blockade of Iran while leaving talks on Iran's nuclear program for later, a senior Iranian official said on Saturday.

Iran's rejection of the latest proposal, which was not substantially different from the previous one, is leading the United States to continue its blockade of Iran's maritime trade, particularly its oil exports, as the most effective means of pressure, diplomatic officials told Israel Hayom. They added that the blockade "could continue for several months."

According to the officials, the move to continue the blockade and tighten sanctions is not expected to be accompanied by a resumption of military activity against Iran. Instead, it will be accompanied by the continued deployment and reinforcement of US and regional forces against the Islamic Republic.

In other words, Trump is moving to continue an intense economic war based on the assumption that Iran is feeling the pain far more than the rest of the world. A senior US official dealing with sanctions told Israel Hayom in this context: "Even the most fanatical regime will not be able to survive for long without the ability to pay those who keep it alive."

At the same time, the president is not renewing the attacks, since the war had problematic consequences for US allies, Israel and the Gulf states.

Alongside the economic pressure, US Central Command has prepared a series of strike options of varying scope. The plans range from a limited one-time strike on high-value targets to a focus on targets in Iran's energy sector. At the same time, CENTCOM has prepared a plan to open the Strait of Hormuz to non-Iranian ships and tankers.

Trump formally notified Congress that the fighting has ended. "The hostilities that began on February 28, 2026, have terminated," Trump wrote.

The president added that the threat Iran poses to the United States and its military "remains significant," but said he would continue to direct US forces in accordance with his constitutional authority to conduct the foreign relations of the United States as president and commander in chief.

This notice makes clear that, as far as Trump is concerned, the active fighting is over, but the war is continuing by other means. In the Gulf states, the message was understood, and the United Arab Emirates and Qatar announced the full resumption of operations by their airlines.

At the same time, the flow of military supplies to the region continues, now focused on fully replenishing air defense system stocks. The logistical effort also includes the supply of spare parts and routine maintenance for combat systems, following a period of intensive activity during the days of fighting.

The Iranian proposal delivered to the Americans on Thursday included only minor changes from the previous one. It includes a demand for a declaration that the war is over and a commitment not to renew it, alongside the immediate opening of negotiations.

The Iranians dropped their precondition that the naval blockade be lifted, but demanded a commitment to remove it at an early stage of the talks. On the nuclear issue, Iran showed no flexibility. Its proposal is to postpone discussion of enriched uranium to the second stage of negotiations.

The Iranian message is clear: There will be no negotiations on the nuclear issue under military threat or while Hormuz is blocked. Meanwhile, inside Iran, the closure of the strait has led to a deliberate reduction in oil output because of a rapid decline in available storage capacity.

According to a US assessment published in Israel Hayom, within one to two weeks Iran will be forced to halt production at some oil wells, and within about a month at most of them. Beyond that, the impact of the economic blockade is worsening: Prices of basic goods have risen by hundreds of percent, and the Iranian currency is trading at a record low of 1.85 million rials to the dollar. Unemployment and poverty rates are growing daily, and salaries for a large share of state employees have been stopped or paid only partially.

The world is heading for disaster: a recession, then a depression and a sense of despair of a nature never known before. The destruction of the economy is being managed with great precision. In the UK, the Chancellor of the Exchequer, Comrade Reeves, has learned from her mistakes and will, therefore, continue to repeat them until the British economy is in tatters. Inflation is too high (and likely to rise in the medium and long term) and interest rates need to go up, so they’re going down instead – to benefit those with debts (e.g. the Government) and hurt those with savings.

In the UK, more than 1.2 million foreign-born claimants are living on universal credit – and the figure is rising. Sickness (much of it self-diagnosed “anxiety” or “autism spectrum disorder,” concerns which have been encouraged by politicians, journalists and members of the very entitled royal family) costs £212 billion a year and is rising. Taxes are soaring and red tape is increasing, so unemployment will inevitably reach record highs in 2026. Millions diagnosed as being “on the autism spectrum” or “suffering” from anxiety are content to live on benefits rather than working for a living. It is now officially possible to suffer from an illness within the autism spectrum called “rejection sensitivity dysphoria” – a self-diagnosed disorder which occurs when a person is rejected or criticised. I think it would be difficult to find anyone in the world who does not suffer from a disorder within the autism spectrum disorder.

The parasitic State is constantly expanding and only those who get their money from the State have financial security. Emigration is soaring, though the emigrants are neither those with Government jobs nor those on benefits. (Those who talk of net migration figures falling are presumably unaware that this is only because the number of people leaving the country is now close to the number arriving.)

The former middle classes have been demoted. Six million Britons with jobs would be better off if they gave up working and accepted government benefits instead of wages or salaries.

Global oil and gas prices are low but, thanks to Government policies, energy costs are higher in Britain than anywhere else in the world. (Literally) Millions of people now have to choose between buying food or keeping warm. The puppet masters are doubtless well pleased with Comrade “Free Suits” Starmer who has, with enthusiasm, continued and accelerated the destruction begun by his predecessors. Starmer’s apparently complete lack of any sense of morality and shortage of intelligence were presumably responsible for his selection of the appalling, untrustworthy Mandelson as British Ambassador to the United States (and his selection of his unelected chum and financial backer as Attorney General was a calculated insult to the British people). Comrade Starmer and his staff must have been the only people in Britain who regarded Mandelson as a trustworthy person suitable for a position as an Ambassador.

Israel's security cabinet has been summoned to discuss the possibility of reviving the fighting in Gaza, according to a Saturday KAN report. 

The discussion is expected to take place on Sunday, per the report. A source familiar with the matter told KAN News that Israel is looking to see concrete steps taken toward the disarmament of Hamas and the installation of the new technocratic government.

This comes after Hamas reportedly submitted its response to the Board of Peace high representative Nickolay Mladenov's disarmament plan on Saturday morning, after initially rejecting it in mid-April, according to Saudi newspaper Asharq Al-Awsat. 

Their response included several stipulations specifically regarding weapons (the details of which were not disclosed to the Saudi outlet, as well as a demand that Israel fully commit to a complete ceasefire and complete IDF withdrawal from Gaza based on an "agreed timetable." 

The Gaza Board of Peace denied Friday's rumors about closing its Civil-Military Coordination Center (CMCC) in Kiryat Gat, saying the Reuters report was "wrong" and that "the CMCC is advancing its efforts every day to continue delivering aid at a level unprecedented in modern history."

"The CMCC has also played a critical role in advancing security. The ceasefire has continued to hold despite all the predictions from so-called experts. We now have a pathway to the establishment of a transitional government in Gaza and the International Stabilization Force," read a statement posted on X/Twitter.
