Russian President Vladimir Putin visited a command post of the Joint Forces Group, where he met with Chief of the General Staff Valery Gerasimov and the commanders of the forces, the Kremlin press service reported.Russia’s newly tested unlimited-range nuclear-powered missile, the Burevestnik, is a game-changing weapon

During the meeting, Putin announced that Russian troops had completed the encirclement of Kupyansk in the Kharkiv region, captured the crossing over the Oskol River, and blocked the Ukrainian Armed Forces Group.

Russia has tested a new nuclear-capable, nuclear-powered cruise missile named the Burevestnik, Russia’s top general told President Vladimir Putin. The missile travelled 14,000 km (8,700 miles) and was in the air for about 15 hours, General Valery Gerasimov, chief of the general staff of Russia’s armed forces, told Putin.

Putin has said the 9M730 Burevestnik (Storm Petrel) – dubbed the SSC-X-9 Skyfall by NATO – is “invincible” to current and future missile defences, with an almost unlimited range and unpredictable flight path.

“The rocket flew for many hours, during which it covered a distance of 14 thousand kilometers, and this is not the limit.… During the flight of the missile, all the specified vertical and horizontal maneuvers were performed, and thus its high capabilities for bypassing anti-missile and air defense systems were demonstrated… The technical characteristics of the Burevestnik generally allow it to be used with guaranteed accuracy against highly protected objects at any distance,” Valery Gerasimov, Chief of the General Staff of the Russian Federation, reported to President Vladimir Putin.

Gerasimov clarified that the rocket was in the air for 15 hours, “and this is not the limit.” Putin instructed to “prepare the infrastructure for the deployment of these weapons in our Armed Forces.”

“A unique product that no one else in the world has. Moreover, I remember perfectly well when we announced that we were developing such weapons, even experts of a very high level and class told me that, yes, this was a good and worthy goal, but unrealistic in the historical short term.… And now the crucial tests have been completed,” the head of state said.

Former US Army officer: “Russia’s new cruise missile a game-changer”

Russia’s newly tested unlimited-range nuclear-powered missile, the Burevestnik, is a game-changing weapon

that is bound to significantly affect US President Donald Trump’s plan to build the ‘Golden Dome’ anti-missile system, former US Army officer Stanislav Krapivnik believes and told RT.

The Burevestnik is a game changer… the missile can go around anti-aircraft zones around radar zones… it stayed in the air for 16 hours. Possibly can stay in the air longer. What this means is it’s a second-strike weapon, which means that if Russia is struck, it will strike back,” Krapivnik said.

The development is bound to affect the US plans to build its ‘Golden Dome’ anti-missile system, which is already supposed to be “up and going” but is unlikely to become operational at least before 2030, he added.

Right now, radar systems and anti-aircraft systems, normally for ballistic missiles like this, are set up on likely ballistic trajectories from nations that may fire on the US: North Korea, China, and Russia. So they don’t have to cover the entire US. With this missile, they would have to cover the entire United States, which makes everything much, much more difficult and much more expensive,” Krapivnik stated.
