US neocons are deliberately aggravating tensions with nuclear-armed Russia and thoughtlessly pushing the world to the brink of an all-out nuclear war, US veteran foreign policy consultant Dr. William R. Polk warns.
Washington is moving back toward a Cold War-style confrontation with Moscow over Ukraine, apparently forgetting that Russia still possesses a nuclear arsenal as large and as deployable as the US', US veteran foreign policy consultant, author and professor William R. Polk stresses.
"Decisions on nuclear weapons are and will remain the most important part of our quest for world security since even small mistakes or wrong actions would probably be catastrophic. We now seem to be moving closer to the danger point of provoking their use," Professor Polk wrote in his article for Consortiumnews.com.
According to the US veteran foreign policy consultant who served in the State Department's Policy Planning Council during the Cuban Missile Crisis of 1962, a 13-day standoff between the United States and the Soviet Union, when the future of the world was hanging in the balance, became a terrible ordeal for both the United States and the Soviet Union.
"I do remember, however, a terrible episode – fortunately lasting only a few minutes – at which I thought to myself, 'let's just get it over with.' When later I met with my Soviet counterparts, I got the impression, although they denied it, that my feelings were not unique," he narrated.
"For years, as former Secretary of Defense Robert McNamara observed, we have had at least 500 missiles armed with nuclear weapons on 'hair trigger' alert in Europe. If you multiply the number of missiles by the number of months, the scattering of sites over a large area and continuous changes of personnel, it is obvious that even the best designed systems of command and control are always fragile," the professor elaborated.
However, it seems that Washington neocons do not realize the danger posed by nuclear weaponry and a possible nuclear standoff in the world.
"We are moving back toward a confrontation with Russia over Ukraine. And, while Russia is not so formidable as it appeared a generation ago, it still has a nuclear arsenal as large and as deployable as ours. Led by us, NATO is moving into areas of great sensitivity," the professor warned, adding that it is time to take the situation at its face value.
China will roll out its latest weaponry through the heart of Beijing this week in a massive parade widely seen as a public show of its growing military capability and ambitions.
The military parade on Thursday, the first under President Xi Jinping's leadership, is billed by Beijing as a sincere commemoration for those who fought and died in World War Two.
But Western leaders, including Australia's, have shunned Beijing's invitations, worried that the none-too-subtle projection of military power is no more than an exercise in drum-beating nationalism, at a time of heightened tensions in the East and South China seas.
For Mr Xi, who as chairman of China's Central Military Commission is also the commander of the world's largest army, it is another milestone in his centralisation of authority since his elevation to power in 2012.
"There's this focus [where] they really need to build up their effectiveness in maritime and the ability to project power," says Tai Ming Cheung, director of the University of California Institute on Global Conflict and Cooperation in San Diego. "What Xi Jinping talks about is the ability to not just be able to fight wars but win wars. This is his message."
"The display of military hardware on the one hand abundantly shows our national defence and military achievements," says National Defence University professor Qiao Liang. "On the other hand, it also shows the People's Liberation Army of China's complete determination and ability to defend the country's sovereignty and territory."
Among those who will attend are Russian President Vladimir Putin, and leaders from Pakistan, South Africa, Sudan, Cuba and Egypt.
For the third time this month, the Chinese have witnessed a massive chemical explosion in one of their cities. This is the second blast to occur in the province of Shandong in less than two weeks, which itself followed the massive Tianjin explosions that killed almost 150 people and injured 800 more on August 12th. The explosion was heard at around 11:30 PM local time in the city of Dongying, at what is thought to be a chemical factory. For now, no casualties have been reported.
Court documents that were unsealed last Monday, demonstrate exactly what Barack Obama is bringing to the shores of America. The details contained in the document show how three Muslim immigrants beat a Christian man to death in Portland, Maine.
Three Somali-Americans, Mohamud Mohamed, 36, and Osman Sheikh, 31, Abil Teshome, 23, brutally beat and murdered Freddy Akoa, 49. The attack allegedly took place over the span of several hours, in which Akoa suffered cuts and bruises all over his body, a lacerated liver and 22 rib fractures.
However, according to the autopsy, Akoa died as a result of blows to his head.
Akoa was found on his living room floor next to his blood-splattered Bible. A court document with Mohamed's name on it was found under his body and there was a purse on the kitchen counter with contents inside with the name of Jennifer Wilson on them, according to Portland Police Detective Christopher Giesecke
Each of the men were held at the Cumberland County Jail without bail.
While I make mention of what the Obama administration has done by bringing tend of thousands of Muslims into the US under the guise of them being "Muslim refugees," which Homeland Security is failing miserably to vet these people, the reality is that the federal government has bee resettling Somali Muslims in the Portland area since 2002. That's right. Literally months after 9/11, the Bush administration was engaged in the same kind of Muslim integration into the US as the Obama administration, but the Obama administration has dwarfed refugee resettlement compared to the Bush administration. We've even learned that Muslims have been flown into the US illegally.
Now, another Christian American man is dead, and why? Because the federal government, which was given authority to protect the American people via immigration has failed in its duty. But they haven't just failed, in many of these cases, they have been complicit.
