The IDF has expanded its strikes across the Gaza Strip after members of Hamas fired at soldiers in southern Gaza on Tuesday evening, according to Palestinian reports.

The IDF struck in the area of Al-Shifa hospital in Gaza City, according to Muhammad Abu Salmiya, the hospital's director-general.

Earlier, the IDF struck Hamas infrastructure in southern Gaza after members of the terror group fired at soldiers, the Prime Minister's Office confirmed.

The US administration was alerted prior to the attack.

Hamas had fired an anti-tank missile and gunshots at IDF troops in Rafah, marking an additional ceasefire violation by the terrorist group.

"The response to [Hamas's] current violations will be much more significant than the response last time," an Israeli official told The Jerusalem Post.

The IDF is returning fire in order to stop Hamas from further endangering soldiers on the Israeli side of the Yellow Line, according to a military source.

Following a situational assessment and with the approval of Defense Minister Israel Katz, the security restrictions that have been in place in the Gaza border communities since October 7 by the IDF have been lifted, despite the fighting.

Katz stated that Hamas terrorists will "pay a heavy price" for attacking IDF soldiers and violating the agreement to return hostage remains in a statement released by his office on Tuesday evening.

Attacking IDF soldiers constituted "crossing a bright red line," and the IDF will "respond with great force," Katz added.

"Hamas will pay with compound interest," he added.

"Hamas will bear responsibility and pay a heavy price if it does not fulfill its commitments," IDF Chief of Staff Lt.-Gen. Eyal Zamir added.

"Many challenges still await us, the war is not over yet," Zamir stated.

Hamas claims Israeli strike killed two, injured four

The Hamas-run civil defense claimed that at least two people were killed and four others injured by an Israeli strike south of Gaza City on Tuesday.

Hamas denied responsibility for the attack on IDF soldiers, saying in a statement that it remained committed to the ceasefire.
