According to first data, more than 150 earthquakes hit within the last 2 days.
Here is another map of the area:
The largest quake of the series was a magnitude-3.0 that occurred at 8:39:46 AM (PDT) on Monday, June 20, 2022, 8 km (5 miles) E (94 degrees) of Mammoth Lakes, CA at a depth of -0.07 km (-0.0 miles). So at the surface!
As magma moves through the earth, it displaces and fractures rock along the way. Volcanic earthquakes often provide the initial sign of volcanic unrest. Their signals differ from typical, tectonic, earthquakes because they tend to be found at depths shallower than 10 km, are small in magnitude (< 3), occur in swarms, and are restricted to the area beneath a volcano.
The graph shows the number of earthquakes from the past 30 days.
Harmonic tremor, or volcanic tremor, is the name for the continuous, rhythmic seismic energy associated with underground magma movement.
The vertical bars on the graphs below correspond with the left-side y-axis and represent the number ofearthquakes per day. The red line indicates the cumulative number of earthquakes and corresponds with the right-side y-axis.
