Brussels meeting is 'birth certificate' for statehood
The Palestinian Authority has welcomed endorsement of a UN report on institution building as a "birth certificate" for statehood amid Israeli concern over a potential unilateral declaration of independence.
The Ad-hoc Liaison Committee (AHLC) on Palestine at a meeting in the EU capital on Wednesday (13 April) endorsed a UN report which says that in six key areas - rule of law, the economy, education, health, social protection and infrastructure - in the West Bank "government functions are now sufficient for a functioning government of a state."
The AHLC is an international body comprising the EU, US, Israel, Canada, Norway, Russia, four Arab countries, the UN, the World Bank and the IMF.
Just as biblical prophecy would dictate: The nations are all aligned against Israel - let there be no mistake about this.
The endorsement comes ahead of a UN meeting in September in which Israel fears the Palestinian side will unilaterally declare independence in territories under its control before the 1967 Arab-Israeli war due to a stalemate in Israeli-Palestinian peace talks.
Speaking after the event in Brussels, Palestinian Prime Minister Salam Fayyad said: "This very important meeting effectively recognised the reality of a state of Palestine being projected on the territory occupied in 1967, which amounts effectively to a birth certificate for the reality of Palestinian statehood."
Look how one-sided the UN report is. No mention of the thousands of missiles and mortars launched from Gaza and Lebanon annually. No mention of that obvious and necessary context to put the statement in appropriate perspective:
The UN report noted that since September 2010 Israel has given the green light for 1,700 Jewish settlement units while continuing demolitions of Palestinian homes and evictions of Palestinian families especially in east Jerusalem.
It noted that Israel maintains around 500 roadblocks and checkpoints in the West Bank and a partial blockade on movement of goods in and out of Gaza.
It added that 10 Palestinians were killed and 545 injured in the West Bank in the reporting period, on top of 24 deaths and 114 injuries in Gaza. It also said Israel continues to hold around 6,000 Palestinians in jail "including around 300 children and some persons held without charges."
The statement above is thus highly manipulative, distorted and disingenuous. Exactly what we would expect from the UN when it comes to Israel.
Things are rapidly coming to a head in the region. Between now and September, there should be a lot of international diplomacy and maneuvering - all about the fate of Israel - the Epicenter. There is no telling what we may see as we approach September, but between now and then, we should expect to see a lot of significant prophetic related events. Its just now starting.
As we approach the very last days of this generation, the scriptures give us instructions. We have repeatedly stated the scriptures from Luke 21:28 and 21:31, both of which inform us to "stand up and lift your heads because your redemption is drawing near" and "when you see these things, you know that the kingdom is near."
But we have additional instructions:
"The hour has come for you to wake up from your slumber because our salvation is nearer now...Rather, clothe yourselves with the Lord Jesus Christ..." (Romans 13:11-14)
"And now, dear children, continue in him, so that when he approached we may be confident and unashamed before him at his coming" (1 John 2:28)
"and to wait for his son from heaven, whom he raised from the dead - Jesus, who rescues us from the coming wrath." (1 Thessalonians 1:10)
So what are we to do?
1. Watch the signs - and when we see the signs, understand that our redemption is close at hand (bolstered throughout Matthew 24 and Mark 13)
2. Clothe ourselves in Jesus Christ
3. "Continue IN Him" - so we can appear before him confident and unashamed
4. Await His coming - and realize that He will come and rescue us from the coming wrath
Those are comforting words as we see the darkness approaching. God knew what we would be facing in these last days and in His infinite love and mercy gave us these comforting words. What an incredible God that we serve.
As disturbing as the news are - everything that we see and everything that may cause fear or angst in our brothers and sisters - is part of God's plan - He wants us to know that and have comfort in His words.
And in the words of the apostle Paul, we are to give each other hope and comfort with the prophetic scriptures which inform us of God's plan and how we will be "rescued" from this coming wrath. And we are to build each other up - just as we are doing.
