Two Gaza rockets hit Ashdod area as lull in cross-border fire ends
Two rockets launched from Gaza landed near the southern Israeli city of Ashdod on Friday, renewing cross-border tensions after nearly five days of quiet.
Last weekend, Israel-Gaza violence heavily escalated when Gaza militants launched a rocket at an Israeli school bus, which left a teenager critically wounded.
IAF strikes two terrorist bases in Gaza Strip
The IAF attacked two Hamas military bases near Gaza City, Israel Radio cited Palestinian sources as saying Friday overnight. According to the report, one base was north of the Zeitun village, and the other close by to the Shati refugee camp.
The IDF spokesperson said that the strikes were in response to the Grad rockets fired at Ashdod earlier Friday, and said the army will "not stand the rocket fire at southern communities and will operate against all acts of aggression against Israeli citizens.
Defense officials said that the IDF would remain on high alert along the border.
IDF sources said they predicted that while the cease-fire had gone into effect, it would likely be limited in time.
“We succeeded in postponing a large-scale conflict with Hamas but that conflict is likely inevitable,” one senior officer said on Monday.
Who knows where this new round of violence will go - if it will continue to escalate or reach a new steady state, with ____ rockets and missiles entering Israel daily. Either way, Israel will not sit by without responding with force.
The bottom line is this: The rockets are being launched into Israel again and therefore the epicenter is worth watching closely.
