Sirens are sounding in the northern city of Haifa and surrounding areas warning of a suspected aerial infiltration.
A short while ago, sirens sounded in dozens of cities and towns in northern Israel including Haifa, Acre and Nahariya, warning of incoming rocket fire.
The IDF says it foiled an attempt to smuggle weapons into Israel from Egypt on Saturday, using a drone.
Soldiers monitoring surveillance cameras spotted a drone that crossed over the border and the IDF dispatched troops of the Caracal Battalion to the scene.
The soldiers opened fire at the drone, knocking it down, the IDF says. The drone was found to be ferrying eight handguns and magazines, the military adds.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is convening his security cabinet at 7:30 p.m. tonight in the Kirya military headquarters in Tel Aviv, the office of one of the ministers tells The Times of Israel.
The meeting comes as Israel continues to prepare to strike Iran in response to the October 1 ballistic missile attack launched from the Islamic Republic.
Lebanon’s Iran-backed Hezbollah terror group says it launched rockets on Sunday at an Israeli army base east of the northern city of Safed.
