Revisiting The Destruction Of Damascus (Isaiah 17) - Fighters In Syria Prepare For War

Revisiting The Destruction Of Damascus - Fighters In Syria Prepare For War

Around 40,000 fighters from Iraq, Yemen, and Syria have reportedly arrived in the Golan Heights, preparing to confront Israel, according to recent reports.

The Israeli army is monitoring the situation closely, with Al Jazeera citing Haaretz’s report that these forces are awaiting orders from Hezbollah’s Secretary-General Hassan Nasrallah.

Israeli security officials voiced concern about the growing threat, noting that while these fighters may not be elite, their presence is significant.

A senior Israeli official emphasized that Israel will take steps in Syria to send a clear message to President Bashar al-Assad that these forces are unacceptable.

The presence of such a large force posing a threat to Israel from the Syrian region will remind Bible prophecy students of the prophecy found in the Book of Isaiah which deals with this region.

Chapter 17 in the Book of Isaiah paints a sobering picture. In it, the city of Damascus is a pile of rubble. The Bible says it will disappear from the face of the earth and become a heap of ruins (Isaiah 17:1).

At the same time, large parts of northern Israel will also lie in ruin (Isaiah 17:3).

Now, before you say this prophecy was fulfilled during Old Testament times, keep this in mind... This passage says Damascus will cease to be a city (Isaiah 17:1).

It will be utterly and completely destroyed. Yet, Damascus is one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities on record. Its history goes back more than 5,000 years. At 2,600 years old, the Book of Isaiah itself is new compared to Damascus! This prophecy is yet to be fulfilled.

How interesting is it that a new potential battle front forming in the conflict between Israel and Hezbollah is on the Syrian border? Only time will tell if we are approaching the fulfillment of this prophecy along with other potential Biblical prophecies dealing with Israel's enemies at this time.

My personal belief the rapture will occur before Isaiah 17:1.

Terry James did publish one interpretation by someone that Isaiah 17 is part of Gog Magog invasion in his site.

It's really hard to know. We have certain constraints around Gog-Magog due to the 7-year burning of the weapons, and how that abruptly ends (I believe the rapture will precede Gog-Magog for a variety of reasons) - and the conventional wisdom has always been that Isaiah 17 precedes this. It does make sense because it would explain why the regions listed in Isa 17/Psa 83 are not part of Gog Magog invasion and a few other things. However I could almost see Isaiah 17 happening at any time from now and possibly even during the tribulation (?) - it seems somewhat unclear to me, but I lean towards the conventional wisdom. Fruchtenbaum gets into the sequence of events in "Footsteps..." I need to go back and review that

Thank you for the work with this blessed blog Scott. I've been reading it for years and look forward to meeting you all when we go home. I think Isaiah 17 is imminent. The election may accelerate it or delay it. If Trump loses we may be seeing it sooner than later, as Israel will most likely have to resort to the Samson option in that theater, due to the an even greater lack of US support .
Either way, I also think the rapture will be prior to Ezekiel 38. Exciting nonetheless and Maranatha!

Daniel, thanks so much that means a lot to me and much appreciated :) --- thats pretty much how I see it. And we need to have Israel living securely before Gog-Magog.....I am also beginning to entertain Gog-Magog happening during the early part of the Trib (would have to be in the first 45 days which would stop the burning of the weapons before the 1000 year reign starts).....It's starting to look like that may be the only condition/situation in which Israel is living securely....Although it's possible that after Isaiah 17 they -could- be in that position, but thats getting harder and harder to envision. Ive noticed some other prophecy people are seeing it this way now as well.....Fruchtenbaum believes Gog-Magog has to happen 3.5 years before the Trib starts and the burning of the weapons then would abruptly end at the mid-point of the Trib and the AOD... Thats interesting as well, but still hard to see how they are living securely at that time...perhaps some new weapon takes out damascus and that creates a temporary peace in the area - who knows at this point.....anyway thanks again :)
