Israeli Air Force Commander Maj. Gen. Amir Eshel warned Tuesday, Jan. 29, that Syria is falling apart and no one knows what the next day may bring: “War may not break out tomorrow,” he said, “but we stand ready for any eventuality.”
If war is not expected tomorrow, why have Israel’s armed forces, including the air force, been on their highest level of preparedness since Friday, Jan. 25? The Syrian crisis may not technically fit the description of a state of war. However, the violent turbulence in that country may at any time spill over the border into hostilities in some shape or form.
The “no comment” stance on the Syrian civil war, long held by Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Ehud Barak is untenable and pointless, especially after the latter cut short an overseas family trip to be flown home in a hurry Saturday.
No one believes the official explanation that the three Iron Dome anti-missile batteries stationed over the weekend in northern Israel - in the sight of many thousands of local dwellers - are there for a preplanned routine test - least of all after a senior Israeli officer told AFP that large Hizballah forces are parked at Bashar Assad’s chemical weapons stores poised ready to seize them.
If this happens, said the officer, “A decision to attack Syria or Lebanon will need to be implemented immediately.”
This is beginning to sound as though the politicians and the generals are not on speaking terms.
Gen. Eshel’s comment came hard upon the grave warning issued earlier Tuesday by Egypt's army chief Abdel-Fattah el-Sissi, who is also the defense minister. “The political strife is pushing the state to the brink of collapse,” he said on the sixth day of turbulent protests across the country at the cost of more than 60 lives.
Gen. El-Sissi reacted to the chaos and lawlessness engulfing Egypt. The government headed by President Mohamed Morsi and the Muslim Brotherhood is no longer a functioning administration. They have been reduced to the single task of fighting to hang onto power.
None of the forces of law and order - the army, internal security, police - are willing to clash head-on with the opposition protesters rampaging on the streets of the main cities including Cairo. Some towns have descended into chaos and some outlying areas in this country of 90 million are no longer receiving regular food and water supplies.
The Egyptian defense minister’s warning may be taken two ways:
1. As a last warning to the Muslim Brotherhood and the opposition on the streets that this is the eleventh hour and if they don’t step back from their confrontation, the military will be forced to seize power to save the country.
2. Alternatively, that the army will not interfere and will stand aside for now, while warning that a civil war in Egypt would be more extensive and calamitous than the vicious conflict bringing Syria to ruin in the last two years.
As the two countries teeter on the brink of catastrophe, Gen. Eshel’s dry forecast of doom correctly noted that no one knows what tomorrow will bring.
However, Israel is coming face to face with its worst fear: being hemmed in by a blazing ring of hopeless conflicts just across its borders: Syria and Lebanon in the north; Egypt in the west and south; and Jordan under threat.

Scott , I love everything you do and are about (so please please please) don't take this the wrong way but I still don't trust "Debkafile" or WND ? They always have the news before its news .
So anyway , Dave down undah :) You know i want to move to Australia so I've started this "offensive" tactic against my wife (She doesn't want to leave the US ). Anyway , i've started posting "Aussie facts" on our wall at home on why we need to leave this country . I'm currently at number 7 .I need your help give me some more ammo :) ...Ps I think i have a secret crush on your Prime minister Julia Gillard (Thats not an Aussiefact by the way :)
Nathan,
I haven't said this in a while and it probably would be a good time to give my dissertation on the news again.
Basically I see it this way:
1. I prefer to cast a wide net and let each individual use their own discernment. I know some sites categorically ban certain sites for what seems somewhat arbitrary to me (who makes the 'rules' on sites? Is a % accuracy rate taken annually? If so, who is judging accuracy? etc. These are just some of the problems I have with such decisions on news sites.
2. Where do "you" place "your faith" in the news? and what is it based on? Is it an objective decision based on data? Or is it based on what other people say about such sites? I would propose in most cases it is not based on objective data.
So does one trust the main outlets? (Reuters, etc.). So they don't have an agenda, and bend the news to their views? Why should I categorically trust them?
NYTimes?
Wash Post?
Should I trust these because they are considered readable by the elite?
3. Are the MSM presenting all of the news these days? I can recall a few years ago with the Lebanon-ISraeli skirmish, "these sites" were days ahead of the MSM in reporting this information. Where do you get germane prophecy related news? How is that decision made?
I'd FAR rather see what is out there, and see what is corroborated by other sources. In other words, if I am going to err, I'd FAR rather err on the side of more news rather than less, based on subjective assessments, if that.
I believe in these days, with everything we are presented with (including all 5 senses) - in this era of deception, we have to look at the entire world and use the discernment of the holy spirit along with some good ole-fashioned common sense.
One more thing. I believe that sites that are restrictive in the news sources are also treating their readers like children who do not possess the ability to think. JMHO.
Scott...I must comment on your explanation of news sources, and 'censoring' of information....that is a very important attraction to your blog for me....We are all intelligent enough to be able to discern the information for ourselves. I stopped visiting a certain "rapture" board a couple years ago because of all the 'rules' that you couldnt discuss this or that, and you couldnt post from here or there. I would indulge in a conversation, only to have it deleted by the PTB....
I got fed up. I appreciate this blog because it allows for all thoughts and perspectives to be discussed. It is up to us to find biblical back up to it for ourselves....these 'parenting' blogs and boards are no better than the government control that we deal with every day.
My point is, thank you for what you have put together here, it has obviously drawn very good, bible based thinkers and is a great place for us ALL to learn and watch together, without censorship from those who want to control our serious desire to follow scripture!
That is the thing with prophecy...NO ONE knows absolutely how and when....all we can do is watch, read His Word, and discuss and encourage!
Thanks Scott!
Mike
Mike, thanks a lot, that is greatly appreciated and I completely agree. 'Parenting' is an excellent description. We're all big boys and girls here. Obviously I'm not going to post anything inappropriate in any way - but as far as the news - I don't categorically trust any news source out there. We are living in an age of deception anyway, and we have to expect that there is a lot of mis-information. But I do indeed trust the guidance of the Holy Spirit and the maturity of the people who visit this site.
I don't know what the mainstream news sources have to say as I don't even bother with most of them anymore. But what I do know is that things are about to get butt ugly and they're getting that way fast! I also know that our time here is getting shorter and shorter by the day.
Hey guys, just flipping through my bible and came across this passage. Psalm 44: 13 Thou makest us a reproach to our neighbours, a scorn and a derision to them that are round about us. 14 Thou makest us a byword among the heathen, a shaking of the head among the people. 15 My confusion is continually before me, and the shame of my face hath covered me, 16 For the voice of him that reproacheth and blasphemeth; by reason of the enemy and avenger. 17 All this is come upon us; yet have we not forgotten thee, neither have we dealt falsely in thy covenant. 18 Our heart is not turned back, neither have our steps declined from thy way; 19 Though thou hast sore broken us in the place of dragons, and covered us with the shadow of death. 20 If we have forgotten the name of our God, or stretched out our hands to a strange god; 21 Shall not God search this out? for he knoweth the secrets of the heart. 22 Yea, for thy sake are we killed all the day long; we are counted as sheep for the slaughter. 23 Awake, why sleepest thou, O Lord? arise, cast us not off for ever. 24 Wherefore hidest thou thy face, and forgettest our affliction and our oppression? 25 For our soul is bowed down to the dust: our belly cleaveth unto the earth. 26 Arise for our help, and redeem us for thy mercies’ sake.
I know it speaks to the author's scenario in his lifetime but as I was reading it, it made me feel like it could be used as a prayer for modern Israel too. With the Kabba and Talmud and other non-divinely inspired books being taught from by some sects of Judaism and with a majority of Jews not recognizing Jesus as the Messiah, I find this passage very relevant. Also, the nations in the modern day who surround Israel don't have high opinions of her. This verse seems to describe modern day Israel perfectly and reminds me that we need to pray for the redemption of Israel as well as the gentiles. Not trying to start an argument or anything, just came across that passage and thought I'd share it with you guys.
