Middle East: Ready for war

"UN chief fears Israel-Hizballah war in near future"

UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon on Friday warned that Israel and the Lebanese terrorist militia Hizballah may go to war again in the very near future.

In a review of UN Security Council Resolution 1701 that brought an end to the 2006 Second Lebanon War, Ban highlighted recent accusations that Hizballah has acquired a large supply of new missiles that are now aimed at Israel.

"Amidst allegations of continued arms transfers to Hezbollah... a perceptible increase in tension between the parties was recorded," wrote Ban. "This raised the specter of a miscalculation by either party leading to a resumption of hostilities, with potentially devastating consequences for Lebanon and the region."

We also see (well-known) proof of the uselessness of the UN:

Resolution 1701 called for the disarming of Hizballah, which Lebanon has refused to do, and increased the number of UN peacekeepers in southern Lebanon to 13,000 with the expressed intent of halting arms shipments to the terror group.

Israeli officials have been saying for years that the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) is simply not doing its job, either out of fear or indifference, and that Hizballah today is militarily stronger than it was before the 2006 war.

Just last month, UNIFIL commander Maj.-Gen. Alberto Asarta Cuevas told The Jerusalem Post that his force had found no evidence of Hizballah military activity or arms smuggling in southern Lebanon. But a series of attacks on UNIFIL patrols at the weekend may point to Cuevas being influenced by fear of retaliatory action by Hizballah.

On Saturday, a UNIFIL patrol that tried to enter a Hizballah-aligned village in southern Lebanon was surrounded and attacked by locals. Two vehicles were badly damaged, and the patrol's commander had his weapon snatched. A contingent of Lebanese soldiers later arrived and retrieved the weapon, but the UNIFIL force was not allowed to enter and inspect the village.

A similar attack took place in another village at around the same time, also denying UNIFIL troops the ability to inspect the community for Hizballah activity.

Israel National News also raises concern:

"UN warns of New War in North; Claims on Gas May Be Trigger"

United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-moon has warned that violence may break out again between Hizbullah and Israel as tensions rise over charges that the terrorist organization has obtained advanced long--range Scud missiles from Syria.

Ban's warning came as the IDF concludes a massive training exercise in the north, where soldiers are preparing for war.

"Amidst allegations of continued arms transfers to Hizbullah... a perceptible increase in tension between the parties was recorded," Ban reportedly wrote in his report, a copy of which was obtained by the French news agency AFP,. The report comes four years after the beginning of the Second Lebanon War, which ended with U.N. ceasefire resolution 1701 that Israel says has not stopped continued stockpiling of arms by Hizbullah.

"This raised the specter of a miscalculation by either party leading to a resumption of hostilities, with potentially devastating consequences for Lebanon and the region.” Ban noted.

And if this wasn't enough, we now see yet another potential stimulus for war:

One trigger for another war could be the huge natural gas fields that Israeli firms have discovered off Israel’s Mediterranean Coast and which both Lebanon and Hizbullah claim belongs to them.

Replying to Lebanese warnings to Israel not drill in its waters, Infrastructure Minister Uzi Landau declared last week that Israel would use force if necessary to defend its rights to develop the fields, which it says are not in Lebanese territory.

The gas fields off the coast the Haifa area are estimated to contain enough natural gas to supply Israel’s needs for more than three decades and allow the Jewish State to export gas, instead of having to import energy. (IsraelNationalNews.com)

Another, older story is emerging again. This involves the scenario of the "world" creating a Palestinian "State" without Israel's consent. In addition, as seen in the article, it would involve dividing Israel, as a "corridor" would be created, linking the West Bank and the Gaza Strip, effectively dividing Israel into two separate halves.

This is coming from the Arab League. The same Arab League that refuses to acknowledge that Israel actually exists.

"Egypt FM: Arab League will declare Palestinian state of peace talks fail"

The Arab League will turn to the United Nations Security Council to declare an independent Palestinian state if peace talks between Israel and the Palestinians do not bear fruit by September, Egyptian Foreign Minister Ahmed Aboul Gheit told the Egyptian daily al-Masry al-Youm on Saturday.

According to the al-Masry al-Youm report, the Arab League decision was based on UNSC resolution 1515, which calls for regional Middle East peace, based on the two-state solution.

The Egyptian FM said in the interview that it was important to establish a Palestinian state at least in principle, while garnering international support for the main elements of a permanence peace deal with Israel.

...the PA would receive land of comparable size and quality in the southern West Bank as well as a corridor between the West Bank and the Gaza Strip. Abbas also reportedly proposed easing Palestinian demands over East Jerusalem to permit the Jewish Quarter of the Old City as well as the Western Wall to remain under Israeli sovereignty.

It is always amusing to see "peace efforts" initiated by the same groups who call for the complete destruction of a sovereign nation. Yet, the media seems to buy it every time.

It doesn't matter. Soon, as part of prophetic fulfillment, the true intentions of Israel's enemies will be clear. War will break out soon enough, as the efforts to destroy Israel intensify.

And this will happen sooner rather than later.
