Brussels pushes for radical shift in budget powers away from parliaments

The European Commission has proposed perhaps the most radical shift in decision-making away from parliaments and toward unelected bodies in the history of the European Union.

Under proposals unveiled by the EU executive on Wednesday (23 November), while formal domestic lawmaking procedures are to remain in place, almost all fiscal policy decisions would be taken out of the hands of national assemblies and delivered up to European civil servants.

The far-reaching proposals instantly provoked accusations of a hollowing out of democracy in Europe - allegations that the commission has angrily dismissed, saying the moves are necessary if the euro is to survive.

In a stunning power move by the EU, we see even more loss of national sovereignty:

Under pressure from markets to deliver tighter economic integration in the eurozone, the EU executive has proposed that governments in member states that use the single currency be forced to submit their budgets to both the commission and the eurogroup of states for vetting - before they are submitted to their own national parliaments.

Those countries that have exceeded EU rules on the size of their debt and deficit would also be subject to tighter monitoring by Brussels and would have to submit regular reports on how they are progressing in trying to correct the situation.

The unprecedented proposals come at a time when commentators, trade unions and even editorial cartoonists have made much of the EU's imposition of technocratic administrations on Greece and Italy.

"The EU is doing what it does best: creating new rules and layers of governance that undermine national sovereignty," said MEP Jan Zahradil, the Czech chairman of the ECR.

An Iranian official disclosed new details Thursday concerning the reporting exposure of a U.S. spy ring in the Islamic Republic, saying that Tehran arrested 12 CIA agents.

Parliamentarian Parviz Sorouri, who sits on the powerful committee of foreign policy and national security, claimed that the arrested agents planned to strike at Iranian interests with the aid of Israel.

U.S. Warship Moves To Syrian Coast as Tensions Mount

The aircraft carrier George H.W. Bush has moved to the Syrian coast amidst reports that a no fly zone is about to be imposed over the country as the U.S. Embassy in Damascus orders its citizens to leave “immediately,” while France has proposed a formal NATO military intervention.

According to a report in the Virginian-Pilot, the aircraft carrier will “conduct a range of operations and help maintain maritime security,” before it heads home.

As we reported yesterday, European sources quoted in Kuwait’s al Rai daily suggest that Arab states are set to impose a no fly zone over the country with the aid of Turkish jet fighters and U.S. logistical support. In modern parlence the term “no fly zone” is a euphemism for a bombing campaign, as we saw with Libya.

Although France has expressed its opposition to a no fly zone, foreign minister Alain Juppe met with Syrian National Council leader Burhan Ghalioun in Paris yesterday to assure him that NATO powers are looking at using “international troops” to “create a secure zone for civilians” by means of “humanitarian corridors, or humanitarian zones”.

Israel expects 'a grave erosion' of peace treaty with Egypt

Israelis are nervously watching Egypt’s revolution reignite with protests in Tahrir Square raising fears a decades-old military dictatorship may soon be replaced by Islamist radicals who will pose a new security threat.

When Israel’s inner security Cabinet met for eight hours Tuesday to discuss annual intelligence assessments compiled by Shin Bet, the Mossad, Military Intelligence and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, its discussions apparently were dominated by concerns about Egypt, Syria and Iran.

The newspaper Maariv also reported that Israel’s army chief, Benny Gantz, “presented the security Cabinet with a scenario involving the cancellation of the peace treaty” between Egypt and Israel.

“The picture is quite clear,” he said. “We’ve been saying it for months. What we call the Muslim Brotherhood will ultimately be the majority in all the [Egyptian] institutions and once the regime stabilizes, as we expect it to do, we expect that there will be a grave erosion of this agreement. We have to prepare for such a situation.”

“It looks like it is going to be a long Arab Winter,” said Moshe Arens, a former Israeli defence and foreign minister.

“The Islamists are going to inherit the mantle of the dictators. A wave of Islamic rule, with all it entails, is sweeping across the Arab world. It will replace secular dictatorships with Islamic ones. We should have expected nothing else.”

'All of Israel within Iran missile reach'

A senior Iranian military official describes missile shields deployed in the region to protect Tel Aviv as “inadequate”, saying all of Israel is within the Iran's missiles reach.


“These missile shields which they have deployed in Turkey, occupied Palestine, Iraq, Kuwait, Qatar, Bahrain and the United Arab Emirates cannot hit all our missiles,” Brigadier General Yahya Rahim-Safavi, who is also senior military adviser to the Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, said on Wednesday.

“They may hit some of our missiles, but the number of our missiles is so large that they will not be able to target our missiles,” ISNA quoted Rahim-Safavi as saying.

The Iranian commander added that all of Israel is within Iran's missile reach.

Referring to Israel's recent threats against Iran, Rahim-Safavi said Israelis are well-aware that if they begin a war, they will be attacked from Iran, southern Lebanon and by Hamas.

In past weeks the Israel has renewed its aggressive rhetoric against Iran. On Monday, Israeli Defense Minister Ehud Barak threatened that "time has come" to deal with Iran.

“People understand now that Iran is determined to reach nuclear weapons… And that should be stopped,” Barak claimed.

Israeli President Shimon Peres threatened on Nov. 6 that an attack against Iran is becoming "more and more likely."

Iranian officials have promised a crushing response to any military strike against the country, warning that any such measure could result in a war that would spread beyond the Middle East.

The Russian Bear Is Back, The Soviet Union Is Being Revived And The Cold War Is Not Over

If you believe that the United States is the "sole superpower" in the world, then you really need to read the rest of this article.

Most Americans have very little idea what is actually going on in the rest of the world and how the global balance of power is shifting. For example, can you name the country that is the number one oil producer in the world, the number one oil exporter in the world, the number one exporter of natural gas in the world and that also has the second most powerful military in the entire world? In case you need a hint, it is not Saudi Arabia, it is not China and it is not the United States. The correct answer is Russia.

And if you believe that Russia is now our "friend", then you have been seriously deceived.

The Cold War is not over. In fact, activity by Russian intelligence agents inside the United States and other western nations is now at least at Cold War levels.

And tensions between the United States and Russia are rising on multiple fronts.

For instance, Russian President Dmitry Medvedev has announced that Russia is going to deploy new nuclear missiles that will be specifically targeted at U.S. missile defense installations if the United States proceeds with plans for a missile defense shield in Europe.

Medvedev threatens U.S. over planned missile defense shield

Dmitry Medvedev, the Russian president embraced the fiery rhetoric of the Cold War threatening to target and if necessary destroy America's planned European missile defence shield once it is built.

In what may be the most serious blow to US-Russia relations since President Barack Obama came to power, Mr Medvedev raised the prospect of Russia launching missile attacks on European Union member states such as Poland, Romania and Spain as well as Nato member Turkey.

"I have given the armed forces the task of drawing up plans to destroy the information and command and control systems of the (US/Nato) anti-missile shield," he said.

Israeli security forces: Turkey nearing military intervention in Syria

Israeli security forces officials said Wednesday that they believe Turkey is nearing a military intervention in Syria, in order to create a secure buffer zone for opposition activists.

Thus far, Ankara has given shelter to some 20,000 refugees who escaped the deadly crackdown by Syrian President Bashar Assad's security forces, and also housed Syrian opposition groups.

In recent days, however, Israeli officials said that according to an updated assessment of the situation, Turkey is expected to set up secure buffer zones on its border with Syria that would allow armed opposition groups to organize against the Syrian regime from bases that would be protected by the Turkish army.

Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan has recently hardened his stance against Assad and suggested for the first time the possibility of foreign intervention in Syria.

Occupy protesters these days are fond of chanting “This is what democracy looks like!” — a slogan they borrowed from other far-left protests in recent decades.

But at Occupy Los Angeles, fellow photojournalist Ringo captured what democracy really looks like in the OWS milieu. Yeah, Occupations have their “General Assemblies” and their up-twinkles and so forth, but that only works when everyone is already in essential agreement after the real dissenters have already been expelled, leaving the “democratic assembly” to at most bicker over minor details.

But what happens when there is deep fundamental disagreement on some point — in this case the key point of who is allowed permission to speak in the first place? Do the Occupiers have their own version of the First Amendment, or perhaps something even better?

Unlike many of the other "Occupations" around the country, the encampment that surrounds Los Angeles City Hall, known as Occupy L.A. has been largely left alone by the authorities. The City Council has even gone so far as to give its blessing to the occupation by unanimously passing a resolution in support of OLA. Most of the time there are no police to be seen in, or even around, the park, leaving the 300 plus revolutionaries living in the camp, not to mention the hundreds and sometimes thousands that visit during the day, especially on the weekends, to do essentially as they please. And when you also consider the mild Southern California weather, Occupy L.A. should represent an ideal microcosm of what the Occupation Movement is and aspires to become.

Rumors of War: Syria?

There are a lot of rumors floating around today regarding the possibility of significant involvement in Syria, beginning with a "no-fly" zone, exactly as seen in the early stages of Libya:

U.S. urges Americans to leave Syria "immediately"

The U.S. Embassy in Damascus urged its citizens in Syria to depart "immediately," and Turkey's foreign ministry urged Turkish pilgrims to opt for flights to return home from Saudi Arabia to avoid traveling through Syria.

"The U.S. Embassy continues to urge U.S. citizens in Syria to depart immediately while commercial transportation is available," said a statement issued to the American community in Syria Wednesday and posted on the Embassy's website.

And then we see this from ZeroHedge:

"No Fly Zone" Over Syria Imminent?

Roughly six months after the imposition of the No Fly Zone over Libya, which ultimately led to the liberation of the country's Light Sweet Crude and the placement of an Eni SpA executive (Italy's largest oil company) as Libya's oil minister and also had a side effect of getting Gaddafi murdered in broad daylight by the reformed freedom fighters, the script is about to be rewound from the beginning, and a few thousand miles east, this time next to explosive powderkeg Syria.

Albawaba news, which cites Kuwait's al Rai daily, reports that Arab jet fighters, and possibly Turkish warplanes, backed by American logistic support will implement a no fly zone in Syria's skies, after the Arab League will issue a decision, under its Charter, calling for the protection of Syrian civilians.

In other words, foreign countries will take it upon themselves to do what only America has done with impunity so far: decide what is best for a given sovereign nation's population.

Or, also known as "Responsibility to Protect". This powder-keg in Syria may end up being much larger than previously thought:

Which then leads to a sobering conclusion: if indeed Europe and the Western world is dead set upon an aerial campaign above Syria, then all eyes turn to the East, and specifically Russia and China, which have made it very clear they will not tolerate any intervention.

And naturally the biggest unknown of all is Iran, which has said than any invasion of Syria will be dealt with swiftly and severely.

Meanwhile, it is reported that the leadership of the Turkish General Staff informed all the concerned parties with the Syrian issue its rejection of the idea that the Turkish army would launch any invasion to the Syrian territory including the area adjacent to the Turkish border to establish a "buffer zone" to protect civilians fleeing the violence.

This is even more dangerous because China has warned the U.S. against attacking Syria, and Russia has reportedly moved warships into Syrian waters to defend Syria from a U.S. attack.

Relations between the U.S. and Russia have degraded recently. See this and this. This is largely due to the U.S. threatening war against any nation which becomes an economic rival.

For the first time in many months, [the aircraft carrier] CVN 77 George H.W. Bush has left its traditional theater of operations just off the Straits of Hormuz, a critical choke point, where it traditionally accompanies the Stennis, and has parked… right next to Syria.

As Predicted, Arab League and Turkey Reportedly Plan No-Fly Zone Over Syria With U.S. Logistical Support

This article contains a number of good links. After repeating some of the same information as above, we see this:

Israeli news outlet YNet News said that the plan is already complete and that it will not only restrict the movement of the Syrian military but also follow Assad’s Presidential Palace, military command and intelligence activities.

These countries making such a decision to intervene in Syria while knowing that it very well could spark a larger conflict with Russia and perhaps China is beyond any and all reason.

The looming issue is that the countries involved could bring the wrath of countries like Russia and China on their heads for intervening in Syria, and as Assad has previously said, it could very well lead to an “earthquake” in the region if the West intervenes.

If the plan materializes, which it looks like it will if al Rai’s reporting is accurate, the Obama administration will likely use the same ridiculous justification they used in the case of Libya, claiming that it does not amount to “hostilities” under the War Powers Act.

What is even more worrisome is that Russia and China might not be the only ones involved in opposing intervention in Syria.

Indeed in mid-August the spokesman for the Iranian foreign ministry, Ramin Mehmanparast, warned against any Western intervention in Syria.

After deploying three warships in Syrian waters, Moscow continues to beat war drums against the United States followed closely by Tehran. Wednesday, Nov. 23, Russian President Dmitry Medvedev told state television:

"I have ordered the armed forces to develop measures to ensure if necessary that we can destroy the command and control systems" of the planned US missile-defense system in Europe.

DEBKAfile's military sources report that the US missile shield's command and control systems which the Russian president spoke of destroying are linked directly to Israel's missile defense network against Iranian, Syria and Hizballah missiles and the X-Band radar station located in the southern Israeli Negev.

Medvedev's threat to American "command and control systems" was therefore comprehensive.

It referred not just to the US anti-missile shield facilities planned for Europe, but also to preparing measures for use ("if necessary") - in the course of a possible American or Israeli attack on Iran or Syria - for striking the US missile defense systems in Europe before they can intercept Iranian missiles.

Knocking out the European shield would leave Israel completely exposed to Iranian missile attack.

In a very few terse words, the Russian president has made it clear that the Kremlin will not allow Iran and its Middle East allies be prevented from missile retaliation in the event of war.

That threat also explains why at least two of the three Russian naval vessels moved into Syrian territorial waters last week were equipped for surveillance and electronic warfare, exactly what is needed for a Russian operation to destroy US missile shield command and control centers near the Syrian border, such as the one stationed in Turkey.

A Lebanese security source did not confirm the media reports, saying the cause of the blast could not be determined due to Hezbollah security's closure of the area.

Turkey says Israeli, Cypriot gas drilling illegal

Turkish Energy Minister Taner Yildiz said on Wednesday Israeli and Cypriot energy exploration in the Mediterranean was illegal, agreement should first be reached with all relevant parties, and resources should be equally shared.

Turkey and Cyprus are in dispute over the energy resources in the eastern Mediterranean and Texas-based Noble Energy started drilling in September a Cypriot offshore block abutting another block controlled by Israel.

Iran's Revolutionary Guards dare Israel to attack

Iran dares Israel to attack, because the retaliation would send the Jewish state to "the dustbin of history," a senior Revolutionary Guards commander said, according to the Fars news agency Monday.

"For some time there has been a hidden energy we hope to expend to consign the enemies of Islam forever to the dustbin of history," he said.

"Our ballistic (missile) capacity never ceases to grow," he added.
The comments were one of the most belligerent reactions yet by an Iranian official to speculation that Israel was considering launching air strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities.

Iran developing advanced missile defense system

Iran could be getting outside help in developing its own missile defense system, a preeminent Israeli missile expert told The Jerusalem Post on Tuesday.

Uzi Rubin, an architect of Israel’s missile defense program, was responding to Iranian reports boasting of a new domestic missile defense system named “Bavar 373,” which Tehran claimed was “a substitution for S-300 (Russian) missile system.”

A report by the semi-official Iranian Student News Agency on Tuesday quoted the commander of the Khatamol al-Anbiya Air Defense Base, Brigadier General Farzad Esmaili, as saying that the Bavar 373 had “higher and more advanced capabilities than the S-300” and that the system would be “completed soon.”

Russian Warships in Syrian Waters

The rift between Russia and the West over Syria and Iran has widened on Tuesday as Moscow sent warships to Syrian shores in a show of support for the regime of President Bashar al-Assad and slammed new United States sanctions against Iran as “unacceptable”.

Three Russian warships have entered Syrian territorial waters, Russian wire services reported on Tuesday citing Syrian sources. The news came a day after Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov accused the West and Arab monarchies of engaging in “political provocation” in Syria by rejecting dialogue between the opposition and authorities and welcoming armed attacks on government offices.

The Russian warships were reported to be heading towards the Syrian port of Tartus, where Russia has a naval base. A source close to the Syrian President said the Russian ships would patrol Syrian waters “to prevent any military interference”.

Study: Radioactive water reaches international date line

Radioactive water from the damaged Fukushima No. 1 nuclear power plant has reached the international date line, about 4,000 kilometers east of Japan in the Pacific Ocean, according to estimates.

The concentration of radioactive cesium-137 will be 0.1-0.01 becquerel per liter by the end of November, 10 to 100 times higher than before the accident started, according to estimates by the Japan Agency for Marine-Earth Science and Technology.

Massive Hydrovolcanic Explosion Inevitable at Fukushima

On September 20, 2011, Hiroaki Koide, assistant professor at Kyoto University’s Research Reactor Institute, estimated that material from the nuclear fuel rods may be twelve meters deep underground at reactors one and three.

If the fuel reaches an underground water source, Haruo explained, it will result in the contamination of water, soil and the sea. More catastrophic, underground super-heated water will ultimately create a massive hydrovolcanic explosion.

Haruo said debris is spreading in Pacific Ocean. On November 15, tons of radioactive debris reached the Marshall Islands.

France, Germany to press euro zone treaty change

French President Nicholas Sarkozy has embraced a German campaign for treaty change that could give European authorities intrusive powers to intervene in the national budgets of countries sharing the euro currency.

France and Germany will soon propose amendments to the European Union treaty in response to the bloc's sovereign debt crisis, Sarkozy said on Tuesday.

"We will do everything not just to defend Europe but also to consolidate it."

Turkey ups pressure on Assad, calls for regime change

Turkish Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan on Tuesday called on Syrian President Bashar Assad to step down in order to stop further bloodshed, and Turkish President Abdullah Gul said that neighboring Syria has reached a dead end. Gul added that change is inevitable, but everything must be done to prevent the country from descending into civil war.

Erdogan to Assad: 'Your Days Are Numbered'

Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan warned Syrian President Bashar Al Assad Monday that his days as a leader were numbered.

"You can remain in power with tanks and cannons only up to a certain point. The day will come when you'll also leave," Erdogan said.

Erdogan appeared to be responding to comments made by Assad in an interview published in London's Sunday Times in which he vowed "to fight and die for Syria" if faced with foreign intervention.

"This goes without saying and is an absolute," Assad told the Sunday Times.

Syria tensions mount with attack on pilgrims, PM lashes out at Assad

Tensions with neighboring Syria, once a close ally of Turkey, took a new turn on Monday as the Foreign Ministry announced that buses carrying Turkish pilgrims back to Turkey had come under attack in Syria and two were wounded.

Last week Turkey delivered a formal protest to Syria and evacuated its diplomatic personnel after supporters of President Bashar al-Assad attacked Turkish diplomatic missions. The attack on the pilgrims, on the other hand, was the first of its kind as it was carried out by Syrian soldiers, according to the accounts of the buses' passengers.

Passengers disembarking in Cizre, near the Syrian border, said they had been told to disembark at a checkpoint near the city of Homs by uniformed Syrian soldiers. One passenger said the soldiers started firing randomly at the pilgrims as they ran away after getting off the bus.

One of the drivers of the three buses and a pilgrim were injured in the armed attack.

“We had stopped at a checkpoint,” Sürmeli told the Associated Press. “Syrian soldiers emerged from behind sandbags and cursed Recep Tayyip Erdoğan when we told them we were Turks. Then they suddenly opened fire on the bus.” “They were hidden in their hideouts. ... These were soldiers, these were not civilians.

A top Iranian Guards commander has begged Israel to stage an attack so Iran will be justified to throw the “enemy’ into the “trash can of history.”

Revolutionary Guards Aerospace Force Commander Brigadier General Ali Hajizadeh told the Iranian Fars News Agency, "One of our big wishes is that they take this action because it is now a long time that we have piled up a huge potential energy and we are eager to spend it and throw the enemies of Islam and Muslims to the trash can of the history."

If the Iranians acquire a nuclear bomb, they might be able to cripple their "Great Satan" even sooner through an electromagnetic pulse, or EMP, attack off America's coastline.

Egyptian Cabinet Resigns Amid Renewed Unrest

Egypt's state television reported the entire Cabinet submitted its resignation to the caretaker junta currently ruling the country

The Cabinet said it will stay on to run the nation's day-to-day affairs until a decision about their replacements

The resignation of the Cabinet on Monday came amid widening protests against the ruling military council, during which at least 24 protesters have been killed and 1,500 injured in the past three days.

The generals have also been widely accused of making a power grab in recent weeks for moving to stack the committee tasked with drafting Egypt's new constitution with delegates of their own choosing. They have also said they will not submit the military budget to civilian authorities for approval.

Protesters are demanding the military quickly announce a date for the handover of power to a civilian government.

At present, I believe that there is a possibility that massive amounts of radioactive materials will be released into the environment again.

At the No. 1 reactor, there’s a chance that melted fuel has burned through the bottom of the pressure vessel, the containment vessel and the floor of the reactor building, and has sunk into the ground. From there, radioactive materials may be seeping into the ocean and groundwater.

We are now head to head with a situation that mankind has never faced before.

And nuclear expert Paul Gunter says that we face a “China Syndrome”, where the fuel from the reactor cores at Fukushima have melted through the container vessels, into the ground, and are hitting groundwater and creating highly-radioactive steam:

In this interview, [Haruo] admitted Tepco’s explanation does not make sense, and that the China syndrome is inevitable.

He stated that considering 8 months have passed since [the March 11th earthquake] without any improvement, it is inevitable that melted fuel went out of the container vessel and sank underground, which is called China syndrome.

He added, if fuel has reaches a underground water vein, it will cause contamination of underground water, soil contamination and sea contamination. Moreover, if the underground water vein keeps being heated for long time, a massive hydrovolcanic explosion will be caused.

Bilderberg Leader Mario Monti Takes Over Italy in "Coup"

Italy’s new Prime Minister Mario Monti (with wife at left), who rose to power in what critics called a “coup d’etat,” is a prominent member of the world elite in the truest sense of the term. In fact, he is a leader in at least two of the most influential cabals in existence today: the secretive Bilderberg Group and David Rockefeller’s Trilateral Commission.

Nicknamed “Super Mario,” Monti is also an “international advisor” to the infamous Goldman Sachs, one of the most powerful financial firms in the world. Critics refer to the giant bank as the “Vampire Squid” after a journalist famously used the term in a hit piece. But its tentacles truly do reach into the highest levels of governments worldwide.

Following the Italian government’s descent into the economic abyss that saw bond yields soar to record highs as the euro-zone began to come apart at the seams, ex-Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi decided to step down. And late last week, President Giorgio Napolitano asked Monti to form a new government.

On November 16, the new Prime Minister — who will also serve as Italy’s “Economy Minister” — announced that he was appointing an array of bankers, technocrats, and lawyers to lead the emerging government. After unveiling proposed reforms later this week Monti and his unelected team will face Parliament in a confidence vote.

Some of the nation’s political parties have already said they support the new leadership. But others, including loyal members of Berlusconi’s party, complained of a “coup d’etat” engineered by bankers and the European Union.

This development in Italy reveals an ominous trend in the world:

Listed as a member of the “steering committee” on the official Bilderberg website, critics say Monti has “establishment” written all over him. The shadowy group he helps lead includes a roster of the world’s real power brokers — media magnates, royalty, military leaders, big bankers, heads of state and government, key CEOs, and more.

The elite members gather once a year in total secrecy, sparking innumerable theories and widespread concern. In 2011 the group met in Switzerland and attracted more scrutiny than in the past.

But despite the attendance of influential reporters, editors, and media power houses, very little of substance was publicly revealed. It is known, however, that Bilderberg played a crucial role in erecting the increasingly powerful supranational regime in Brussels.

The triggers were supposedly put into place to encourage them to do their job, but in reality failure is exactly what the liberal democrats wanted.

The trigger gives them a chance to gut the military, and cut programs like medicare. . . for the soul purpose of blaming the republicans and touting their belief that we dearly need ObamaCare.

After two months of talks, all the members of the panel has managed to do is get on television talk shows, and blame each other for the failure.

What did you expect? They’re politicians!

The triggers include nearly $500 billion in defense cuts (The Pentagon is the bulls eye), and an equal amount of domestic dollars.

Did you notice that no cuts on entitlement programs have been suggested? Isn’t that where the hard choices should have begun?

They won’t make the cuts necessary to get America back on track because that would mean they would have to abide by the limiting principles of the U.S. Constitution, and God knows they won’t dare bring themselves to do something like that. Abiding by the Constitution, after all, would reduce their power - something political elitists can never bring themselves to do.

What comes next after the economy falls

First, the current conditions within the EU:

The economic crisis is growing worse as central European bank lending to such countries as Italy, Greece and Spain now has dwindled to a trickle because investors are backing away from funding the region's lenders.

There isn't enough capital on hand to finance debt which is due to mature next year. Analysts believe there need to be dramatic changes in the structure of the EU if it is to survive

Where the EU is headed:

They add that the EU is at the stage now where it needs to change to a more centralized parliament representing the respective members, who will have to give up some national sovereignty to create what amounts to a United States of Europe.

"The old EU is finished," said one informed regional observer. "The 27-member bloc has never been as unpopular as it is today."

As it now stands, the old EU is made up of countries whose parliaments can dictate the limits of their participation. They've seen how some countries in southern Europe with fewer resources and spiraling debt are forcing the more productive countries of northern Europe to help bail out the less fortunate ones, without any requirement for the southern countries to implement belt-tightening measures needed to help themselves recover from their own economic downturn.

As a consequence, the richer, northern countries such as Germany are dictating terms to such southern countries as Greece and Italy on belt-tightening measures needed to receive further bailout money.

Given the level of interdependence by countries now, it is too late to recede to a more isolated position.

In fact, these experts say the thinking is toward "more Europe" with expanded powers and a "real government." These analysts say that Europe today is where the U.S. was as a confederation prior to 1787 when the U.S. Constitution gave the U.S. a federal system.

And at some point the EU will either grow or shrink into the 10 Kings phase - its last phase. In fact, the 10 Kings will represent the final stage of human government on this earth. When Jesus returns at the end of the Tribulation, He will end the reign of the antichrist and in turn, end all forms of human government as He establishes His reign on earth. No more human government - ever. Finally. Thankfully.
