Trump rejects Iran ceasefire proposal, expects to renew strikes after midterms

US President Donald Trump has rejected Iran’s proposal for a seven-day ceasefire and told aides he expects to resume bombing Iran after the November midterm elections, the Wall Street Journal reports, citing US officials.

The officials say that Trump is reluctant to resume major combat operations however, with the scope of the envision strikes unclear, while noting his views could change and that he could also end up being swayed by the midterm results.

Reminds me of Vietnam December 1966 - May 1967. Johnson initiated a bombing lull during the most critical period of the war. This gave Hanoi a chance to regroup and utilize the Ho Chi Minh trail to resupply the Viet Cong in South Vietnam and build up their forces along the DMZ. In summer 1967 the attacks began across the DMZ leading up to the Tet Offensive in January 1968.
