Some 200 protesters stormed Alexandria's state security headquarters after earlier clashes with police, gaining control of its lower floors and driving police officers to hide in the upper floors of the building. The protesters, who demand the abolition of state security, threw petrol bombs at police, who fired live shots at them, critically wounding a 26-year-old protester in the chest, witnesses said. He was taken to hospital.
Obama administration prepares for possibility of new post-revolt Islamist regimes
The Obama administration is preparing for the prospect that Islamist governments will take hold in North Africa and the Middle East, acknowledging that the popular revolutions there will bring a more religious cast to the region's politics.
The administration is already taking steps to distinguish between various movements in the region that promote Islamic law in government. An internal assessment, ordered by the White House last month, identified large ideological differences between such movements as the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt and al-Qaeda that will guide the U.S. approach to the region.
At least we are now facing the eventual reality that "Islamist governments will take hold in North Africa and the Middle East". It is indeed a reality and very prophetic as we continue to see the coalitions forming - coalitions who will invade Israel in these last days.
Iranian Human Rights Abuses
Just so we all know what we are dealing with in terms of Iran.
Don't Worry, Be Happy
A sarcastic look at where America is right now and where we are headed - despite the lies and distortions that we are fed daily regarding the state of the U.S. economy. I can't resist giving the intro to this article. Is anybody believing what we are being fed?
Haven't you heard? The coming economic collapse has officially been canceled. The U.S. economy is in full recovery mode. It has just been announced that the U.S. unemployment rate fell to 8.9% in February.
Can't you see? The great American economic machine has roared back to life. The stock market is way up this year. The recession is over. Our financial system is more stable than ever. Pretty soon all Americans that want jobs are going to be able to get jobs and all of our government debts are going to be paid off. The greatest days for the U.S. economy are just around the corner. So don't worry, be happy.
Of course, that 8.9% is a complete fabrication. The number resulted from the government simply declaring huge numbers of unemployed "out of the work force" - thus changing the ratio arbitrarily to produce a favorable number - much the way the old soviet press would lie for the USSR. Back in the day.
It ties into this article:
Prepare for Economic Disaster
It is not just the United States that is headed for an economic collapse. The truth is that the entire world is heading for a massive economic meltdown and the people of earth need to be warned about the coming economic disaster that is going to sweep the globe.
The current world financial system is based on debt, and there are alarming signs that the gigantic global debt bubble is getting ready to burst.
Despite all of our advanced technology, the truth is that human civilization simply cannot function without oil and food. But now the price of oil and the price of food are both increasing dramatically.
So how is the current global economy supposed to keep functioning properly if it soon costs much more to ship products between continents? How are the billions of people that are just barely surviving today supposed to feed themselves if the price of food goes up another 30 or 40 percent?
For decades, most of the major economies around the globe have been able to take for granted that massive amounts of cheap oil and massive amounts of cheap food will always be there. So what happens when that paradigm changes?
Global food prices hit record high as UN warns of impact of political unrest in N. Africa
Global food prices hit a record high last month as the UN warned that oil price hikes caused by the unrest in North Africa could force costs to spiral even more.
Rising food prices are a fast-growing global problem, partly fuelling the protests which toppled the rulers of Tunisia and Egypt in January and February.'Unexpected oil price spikes could further exacerbate an already precarious situation in food markets.'
Saudi Arabia drafts in up to 10,000 troops ahead of protests
Desperate to avoid mass uprisings against the House of Saud, security forces have deployed in huge numbers across the region.
King Abdullah is also reported to have told neighbouring Bahrain that if they do not put down their own ongoing Shia revolt, his own forces will.
Treating Israel like Dirt
I'll just cut to the bottom line on this one:
It is not Israel but the anti-Zionist and anti-Jewish conceptual world that is soiled beyond redemption, practicing a surreptitious moral inversion in its deliberate distortion of historical justice and of the enactments of international law. As Catherine Chatterley argues, what we are observing is the “re-deployment of classic European antisemitic tropes” which “places Zionists outside the boundaries of humanity.”
The final irony, however, is that if dirt, generally speaking, is matter out of place, then modern Israel, founded in its ancestral homeland where it historically and legitimately belongs, is exactly in the right place, the place where it is meant to be.
AMEN.

I have thought that the economy would limp along until we are raptured. Then the world economies would collapse. I base this on the scripture which says that just in the days of Noah, so will it be when Christ comes for His bride. I can't see that our God would allow us to languish in hunger and financial chaos. I pray that as we live out our days in the last of the last days that we will not be filled with fear, that we will not take our eyes off Jesus. Let us not sink in the waves of despair but ask Jesus to lift us up in hope.

Thank you, gearedup! That was beautiful!
Scott, the "Don't Worry, Be Happy" article made me laugh...in a sick, sad sorta way. Thanks!
Alice,
I agree, it was pretty funny. But sadly true as well.

I believe the question is just how bad we will see things.
I agree with the "Days of Noah" - but that indicates that we won't be experiencing things that take us out of our "ordinary life" - but don't forget, many Christians around the world suffer immeasurably.
We're lucky where we are, but we don't have guarantees against hardships.
I don't think we'll be into a situation as the world will see during the tribulation - where people are clinging to life. But we could have some hardships along the way.....The question is how much we will have to see on this side of the rapture.
It could also be pointing to the nearness of the rapture, if something is coming that WILL change life as we know it, and prevent people from "going about normal, daily businesss"
I remember to pray for our dear brothers and sisters who are being tormented ruthlessly for their faith in Jesus Christ. One evening I fell into bed with tears streaming down my face just begging God to release his precious children from all the plights of the enemy. I just don't want to believe that He will allow the Bride to be bruised and battered before the Groom comes for her. I know God is working in all our lives to make us more like His Son....yet in my human weakness I sometimes go to a dark place and struggle with the thought that we will be completely broken before He comes for us. I'm sorry, I'm weak at times....

I've been reflecting on Luke 21:28 quite a bit and I honestly believe that the reason we were told to "look up" and watch for Christ - (rather than to focus on the early troubles) was for that very reason.
It was clear to the prophets (including Jesus) - that this would be a scary time - and I believe those words of scripture were intended to serve as comfort during these times.
In other words, rather than focus on earthly things - focus on Christ and His return!
Maranatha!
Luke 21:28....a very interesting perspective. It may well be true! It has certainly helped and comforted here since you first mentioned it.
I don't know if that was his primary intent or not, but it has certainly helped this boy in the here and now.
Thank you for that perspective.
Amen Caver.
And that verse if bolster all the more by Luke 21:31:
"Evens so, when you see these things happening, you know that the kingdom of God is near".
Comforting words for sure.
Scott and all
What has really hit me of late is that we, the Church, are already IN heavenly places, IN Christ who is presently on the Father's throne (we are all cooched up together so to speak).
We are in heaven in Jesus, merely awaiting the redemption of our bodies. That's what the other views are missing imo. We are not earthdwellers that are destined for this trial, our citizenship is in heaven NOW!
Heaven is the true reality for us.
Get it?

I'll have to ck which Greek manuscript THAT came from.
Hopefully, not the one Charles Taze Russell used for his "New World Translation"...
;D
Heh :)
Sue, I do indeed ! But I still want to be up there, in person!
