The clip shows looters displaying their take while the official story has shifted from teacher shortages and dilapidated classrooms to broader "economic hardship."

The movement started in mid-September at high schools in Paris's working-class northern suburbs, including Lycée Saint-Exupéry in Créteil. Students and teachers cited missing staff, clogged toilets, leaky buildings, classes of 30-plus, and classrooms that became unbearable in heatwaves.
One student union and supporting teachers demanded more teachers, building repairs, smaller classes, and changes to the Parcoursup admissions system. Education Minister Edouard Geffray later announced the deployment of roughly 3,000 substitute teachers to the worst-affected schools.
Blockades and marches quickly spread to Lyon, Marseille, Bordeaux, Lille, Nantes, and elsewhere. Early clashes produced injuries and thousands of arrests, many of them minors.
By mid-October the framing had changed. The October 17 nationwide day brought together students, unions, and Yellow Vest supporters under the banner of living costs, fuel prices, inequality, and proposed budget freezes on public-sector pay. Interior Ministry figures put turnout near 550,000.
