Former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev referred to nuclear weapons in the context of Russian attacks on Ukraine.
"The ones that were used, as we know, were various transport vehicles with different warheads.
Except for nuclear, for now ," Medvedev said.
Speaking at a meeting of Russia's Military and Defense Committee, Medvedev characterized the latest attacks, in which more than 30 civilians were killed in Kiev, for example, as "raids against military targets".
Medvedev, who is the vice-chairman of Russia's Security Council, followed up with a Telegram message warning Kiev against its efforts to use longer-range Western missiles against missile launch bases on Russian soil.
Such actions would not be considered "legitimate defense, but a direct and obvious justification for the use of nuclear weapons against such a country," Medvedev wrote in his post.
