A tsunami advisory has been issued by the Japanese meteorological agency on Thursday after a 6.6 magnitude earthquake struck its outlying islands in the Izu chain.
Families in Japan have been told to brace themselves after a huge 6.6 magnitude earthquake prompted a tsunami warning.
The quake reportedly hit the coast just off the Izu Islands at around 11am local time. The epicentre is said to be around 10km deep.
It was reportedly close to Torishima, an unhabited island in the volcanic parts of the Izu Islands.
Another earthquake was also reported just off the Japanese coast yesterday with a magntitude 5.5 quake being deteced off Honshu.
