According to the Russians, the Polish Army is now in offensive formation from the Suwalki Corridor where it has strengthened its forces, to the borders with Ukraine and Belarus.
For the first time in the country's history, anti-missile defense systems have been deployed to protect Poland's capital, Warsaw. This was stated by the head of the Ministry of Defense, Mariusz Blaszczak.
During a meeting with Polish Army officials, Blaszczak called the deployment of the anti-missile defense system to protect the country's capital a "historic and landmark event."
At the same time, he emphasized that "air defense has returned to Warsaw, which was absent for a long time, and now ensures that the city is protected by Patriot systems for the first time in history."
The head of Poland's defense department also noted that the basis of Warsaw's missile defense system is the Patriot complex, which he described as "the most modern technology in the world."
The Patriots will be operational immediately, this week in particular.
Recall that the agreement for the acquisition of the American Patriot system from Poland was signed in 2018. It provides for the supply of 16 artillery pieces, 208 missiles and 4 radar stations.
Specifically, the 32nd Tactical Air Base based in Łask relocated to the Warmian-Masurian region to protect the Suwalki Corridor.
The 32nd is one of two bases where Polish F-16 fighters are stationed, the other being the 31st Air Force Base.
It should be noted that the Suwalki Corridor – a narrow piece of land located between Polish and Lithuanian territory, about 100 km long, hypothetically connects the Kaliningrad Region of the Russian Federation and the Grodno Region of the Republic of Belarus.
According to Polish Defense Minister Mariusz Blaszczak, the mentioned area is one of the two "sensitive points" for Warsaw, and the best weapons are being sent to protect them. The second is the "Gates of Brest", a location on the Polish-Belarusian border.
“Therefore, we are strengthening and expanding the units stationed there. This is where the newest equipment is shipped first," Blaschak said.
